Presale Timing

Hey folks... first time poster.

What is the typical timing for VZW presale? 2 weeks ahead, 1 week, less? Is it always announced on a Thursday, like the release, or could it happen any day of the week? I've been a VWZ customer for years, but only through my company's corporate plan. I've finally had it with the outdated, camera-less, constant reboot-needing, blackberrys that my employer provides. I've been waiting for months to pull the trigger on an android device, and the Bionic is IT.

I'm anxiously awaiting that email from VZW.:D
 
So what exactly does pre-ordering do? Does it allow you to get the phone early? Or does it arrive at your door on launch day? Or is it like gamestop...just holding a copy of a game that you had no need to reserve in the first place because millions upon millions are available.

I pre-ordered my Droid Incredible (I think a week before release) and it arrived on release date. If I remember correctly, this phone had the most hype of all phones on VW next to maybe to the Original Droid...and it was sold out I think even before the release date. You could only pick it up in the store with the stock on hand the store had. So it was essentially sold out first day. Then, with all the AMOLED display shortages, you couldn't get this phone until a few months later when they decided to switch out the display with a SLCD.

Is there any downside to pre-ordering? Can I still use my upgrade?


(You would think I would know all this as a sales rep, but I know nothing of ordering phones online!)

No...you would at least assure yourself of securing the Bionic should it sell like mad crazy, which it may very well do since it is the first dual-core LTE device for VW. I'm still going to wait a couple of weeks in order to see the specs of the HTC Vigor.

Yes, you should be able to do your upgrade early. Others can chime in on whether the order process allows that, because when I preordered my DI, I was still under contract and paid full retail price.
 
and you may be able to even get the phone prior to the official release date. that's what happened to my wife's iPhone order. She ordered it at 2am, at the time they opened up online orders for pre-ordering, and she received it 2 days later, well before they were officially released on Verizon.
 
Yeah, if you live close to one of VW distribution centers, you can get it extra quick and before release. I know they have one in Memphis next to all the FedEx logistics area...not sure about the rest of the country.
 
I asked elsewhere but may be more approrpiate here.
When do the pre-orders start? 12 am EST, 3am EST, 8am EST, or some random time that changes by phone? Need to know whether to stay up or when to get up? Despite the naysayers, I see this selling out quickly and want to make sure I get one.
 
Won't sell out that quickly lol. I'm pretty sure Moto is ready with a large stock of these behemoths....
 
Will stores get some? I have been in the store on my route (I'm a UPS driver)everyday asking about the thing. If I know the store is getting some I will tell them to hold one for me or they wont be getting there stuff until 4:59 everyday LOL

why is it still not on pre order?? isnt it supposed to be up at least 1 week before?? this is gettign me worried.
 
I am a business customer and i called my rep. he confirmed 9/8 for the release date (nothing new) and told me they have nothing in the system for a pre-order. he did tell me to call back on Monday, but i don't think he was hinting at anything. So according to him, there will be no pre-sale.

Hmm.. is that normal? phones not having pre sale?

also, VZW website shows nothing of the release date.
 
Not all phones will have a presale. Perhaps Verizon isn't seeing this phone as significant enough to have a presale for.
 
I guess it kinda makes sense that there'd be no presale if the contest (which hasn't started yet) is to WIN a bionic - why would you buy one first?

I'm kinda hoping they don't have a presale now so I can get to Costco when they open and have the same chance of getting it there as online.
 
I had n problems ordering my OG DROID late on Nov 6 2009 and having it delivered the next morning. This time I'm hitting up CostCo, but still - shouldn't be sold out in the first day, especially if you see just how many people are trying their damnedest to convince me not to buy the Bionic and wait until the Prime....

I sure hope the Prime doesn't get delayed for any reason - I'll have to laugh at each and every one of them that is almost begging me to skip the Bionic now...

If they didn't believe it to be significant, then why do the viral marketing on Droiddoes?

There's no telling how many phones each Costco will get. Still, the vast majority of our customer base don't want smartphones. The people that do want smartphones always ask about iPhones, cause it's pretty much the only one they know (which, btw, Costco doesn't sell as they don't sell ANY Apple products).

I don't think anyone will have a prob getting their Bionic at Costco. Still, I'd get there as early as possible just in case.

Ill try and be there ~10am. If for whatever crazy reason my Costco is sold out, ill hit you up and have you hide it for me and ill be on my way to Myrtle Beach, LOL.
 
Hey Yankee, will costco have midnight launch?? i am not the sort to usually go to these things, but i cant wait to get rid of my broken BB.
