I get something very similar to this but all those numbers in the quotes are random letter/number combos.

I cannot figure this out.

I have an unrooted DInc and am using the official OTA file link.

I think something is missing from your phone that the update can't find to authenticate. You said your not rooted but have you in any way tried to remove some of the crapware that was preinstalled? It pretty much has to be a virgin froyo for it to load, at least in my case it had to be.

Well I got tired of waiting for verizon to push the OTA to me so I just finally flashed the ROM over at XDA. After reading about the issues with the OTA anyway and knowing the XDA guys already fixed them, I just figured it was a better bet. I have to say honesty though this update wasn't worth all the hype to me. I will probably go back to flashing other ROMS just to play around more.

I do have one question though if anybody knows the answer, I am back to the old Market. Does anybody know why?

After you open it once or twice it should update on its own. Happened to me a couple times when flashing roms.

Come to think of it, I'm not sure you need the fat32 format the android central instructs talk about. Seems to me you can select recovery from hboot, then volume up + power, then load the updat.zip there. If I'm thinking of it right, its only the load from hboot method that requires the format.

Nope, I have not removed any crapware. When I got Froyo it was the official OTA but I loaded it through HBOOT. I did not wait to get the OTA from VZW directly.

Ahh, I misunderstood its not a froyo feature. I thought you'd already updated and now hboot wasnt working. Is your card formatted to fat32?

Yep, formated to FAT32.

How long am I supposed to wait on HBOOT for it to find the file? It looks like it found it but then says no image or wrong image.

Well, they found the download site for the official OTA.

The link from here OTA Gingerbread! - Android Forums

Yes, I checked and confirmed the Md5 of the file to match what is says in that link.

How do you disable fastboot mode on Froyo?

There is no fastboot in froyo.

Are you sure you downloaded the correct file? There are two versions of the OTA out. One about 88 GB which takes your from 2.2 to 2.3.4 and a smaller one 6 gb that takes your from 2.3.3 to 2.3.4, the first link in that thread was the smaller one I believe as I'm not going to register on AC I can't tell for sure.

I'm in South FL and still no update. I think that system update button is a joke, the sec you hit it, it doesn't even think immediately says "Your system is up to date". I mean really, at least give it a few secds to actually check for an update. LOL What a useless function, yet I keep pressing it. :D

Go back a page or two. I explained why this happens.

Geography, date of purchase, and such have nothing to do with when you get it.

I haven't seen a "how do I return to froyo " post yet. Did I miss it?

I dled the 87.7MB file not the smaller ones that only update from the original OTA back in August.

I just hope that the fact that I manually loaded the Froyo OTA that it doesn't stop me from getting the OTA from VZW since it seems like either manual method is not going to work for me.

Did you try loading from within recovery like I mentioned above?

It shouldn't as I had tried the GB OTAs that were floating around this weekend and had teh same problem. Then this morning I got the notification for the OTA on my phone but still had the same problem installing it till I flashed a clean install of the froyo update. But I was rooted so I'm not sure why your having problems.

Yes, I did and I get error in /sdcard/update.zip

Well, hopefully I get the OTA.

You don't by some odd chance have the old update.zip still on the card do you? Perhaps competing update files could piss it off? Just spitballing.

Otherwise, I'm with varkie. Might have to use the 2.2 PB31IMG and load it in hboot first, especially if you already have your card formatted to fat32 anyway. I'm not so sure you're going to get the OTA if you can't update this way. The fact you checked the MD5 really cements the fact it should work. Unless the fat32 format didn't take. Seen that happen many times. Might want to hook up to PC in disk drive, right click on SD and make sure it's reading fat32 format. Still doesn't explain why it wouldn't work through recovery though.

One last thought, either when hooked up to PC or by using a file manager on the phone, navigate to the SD card and make sure that file isn't called update.zip.zip. If you renamed it on the PC, you may have to call the file update instead as the .zip will automatically be added. Forgot about that little issue.

Even though it's saying it right in the error you posted, that MAY be because it's recognizing as such a file but there's a problem with it...like the extention.

Sounds like I should wait for this update. I wonder if Verizon will pull it to fix it, or just keep on keepin on.

I should just root...

I have moved all my apps to my phone anticipating the gb up date and funny enough my phone has not yelled at me for low space I am down to 430 mb available this is strange usually it yells at me around 580

You know it isn't for everyone but once you get the hang of it you get more control of your device. You dont have to wonder when the update will come. And you can read up on the roms that are being put out to pick the best one for you.

I have an incredible that has a locked esn. I did root it. I have had quite a few different rom's on it. I just haven't gotten the nerve up to root my working phone.

I am going to try a different microSD card. It is formatted in FAT only but i will try recovery.

What is this 2.2 PB31IMG? If I load it will it erase everything on the phone?

I think I have quadruple checked and it just says update and a file extension of .zip.
