Root Unrevoked3: Is your firmware too new?

ok i am at a loss i installed the drivers, i installed and un-installed HTC sync, i connected as charge only and as disk drive, ive reset the phone 3 times, ive done the procedure like 4 times and it still is not working can someone please help me?
 
usb debugging is on and it goes all the way to "running root....", then it gives me the error message asking if my "firmware is too new?"
 
ok yeah so unfortunately you can't root just yet. that is the new hboot that came with the latest gingerbread 2.3.3 ota. an exploit for that hboot has not been found yet. so looks like you will have to wait.
 
oh....damn, ok well thank you for your help...do you know when there will be a way to root with what i have? Also how will i find out if i can?
 
no news on when. most devs want to keep the progress quiet until they are ready to release it. they do not want htc to do an ota that will close the exploit found. hopefully soon though.

just keep checking back here. we will have a sticky and there will be a ton of posts and threads about it. believe me you will know. we will keep everybody updated.

No*smacks head , lol crap I knew I forgot something , is there anyway to go back and change it.but I learned my lesson. once rooted, stay rooted!! Lol

nope, unfortunately you will have to wait to root your phone now. this goes for any phone. if you are rooted, never accept the ota. just wait for the devs to create roms based on the ota. also the devs usually gets the ota before anybody else does as well.

If you still have s-off, try and go here: http://androidforums.com/evo-4g-all-things-root/259446-clockwork-amon-ra-pc36img-files.html and download Amon RA 2.3. Follow the instructions there to flash the recovery. Don't reboot after it gets done. Select recovery and see if you can get to it. If so, you should be able to flash a rom. S-off is the most important thing in rooting and if you still have it, you should be able to get back to running custom roms.
 
Using the older version of unrevoked for me, so thank you for posting the link.

More details:

I had successfully used unrevoked 3.22 to get CM7 working on a Desire with S-ON, but when trying to use the custom recovery image to install ClockworkMod 3.2 it kept hanging on 'Running root'.

After trying the various suggestions here, I eventually download unrevoked 3.21 from the link on the first page, and it worked first time :)
 
HELP! I am having big problems with trying to root. I keep getting the error message "Error: failed to get root. Is your firmware too new? "

I upgraded with the offical 2.3 update on the HTC website this morning.. then decided it was so dull that I wanted to install a custom ROM.

Tried the reset and SD card default thing but still wont update. Tried an early version of unrevoked but that just does not seem to do anything after the root and just hangs.

Any ideas anyone?

ok so downgrading is not possible as you have to have your securities turned off (s-off)to do that. basically on your phone you need to have permission to make changes to your phone. however, there are securities in place on your phone that will deny you permission. the only way to get around this is to turn it off. but you cant do this until an exploit can be found to turn it off.

and be patient root is coming. there are some great devs working on it as we speak.

The bootloader security will not let you downgrade. You need nand unlocked(s-off). To get that we need and exploit that allows us to write to the system partition. Be patient. It will happen.
 
Hello! New forum user here!

Quick background--I had an EVO from when it first came out, which I rooted after a lot of research. Recently it was stolen and I had replacement sent to me. When I first turned on the phone, the PRL, firmware, etc. updated automatically. I was shocked to find the "firmware too new?" issue. I suspect that's just exactly the case, because I've tried every fix here, to no avail. I'm on HBOOT version 2.16.0001. (side note: does that .0001 make a difference?)

My question is, after using unrEVOked 3.21, it actually made it past this message, said it was rooting, and went through the reboot process, but nothing happened (no SU, still S-ON). I'm assuming the exploit still hasn't been found yet for the newest OTA. Is this what you guys think as well?

Hi all, I'm new to this, but have a pretty good understanding of what I'm trying to do...please don't respond with too technical of responses, I'm not a programmer....please.

Here's what I've tried....nothing works. Still get "...firmware too new?..."

you have to run VMware, parallels or something similiar to root your phone on a mac but it can be done.

OK - here's what you need to do to make revolutionary.io happen on a Mac, the free way -


Install a virtual machine (VM)
Install Ubuntu inside that machine
Do revolutionary from there

The pictures are a little out of date - but don't panic - the newer version with the different options - just accept the defaults on the extra setup screens. (Except where given the choice to say Linux/Ubuntu.)

And the VM - although free - is exactly what I'm using on one of my business Macs to run a Red Hat distribution - to be honest, in some ways, I like it better than Parallels (it's like the old Parallels in that it's easier to configure and it just works). Best of all, it's free, and you get it from here -

And you want to get and use Ubuntu 10.04 (again - instructions are for Ubuntu 9, and wonka said to use 10.10, but 10.04 is the long-term supported version and should do nicely - but I think you'll be able to get the idea). Like any virtual machine setup, you need a CD of an operating system - or just an ISO image of the install CD that VirtualBox can mount as a virtual CD. And you can get that from -

That's for the 32-bit version, I am *pretty sure* that will work just fine.

It's going to look like a lot of fol-de-rol but it's what you expect:

Set up virtual machine
Set up Ubuntu
Set up Android sdk to get adb and fastboot (if needed)
Trust the revolutionary.io wiki - public:revolutionary [RootWiki]
