Root Unrevoked3: Is your firmware too new?

And apparently I have downloaded a few ROMs (as you can see I`m no expert)... I think. You can see on the last image what I have on the root of my sd card, so I have downloaded clockwork, several images, one is amonra and other stuff, but the thing is I really need to get rid of that annoying sprint apps that I do not use whatsoever, and I need to get wifi tether for my lap. or at least "usb tether".
When I tried to flash zip from sd card, unrevocked forever.zip
at the end the process was aborted. It said:
E:unsupported radio version
E:Update failed. Check /sdcard/soff.log
etc
(status 42)
.....
So.
Do you think I cannot get s-off?
What can I do to flash a rom... since I

ok you can't use unrevoked. your hboot and radio prevents you from using it. the only way now that you havethe bootloader unlocked is to use follow captain throwback's method which downgrades the bootloader so that you can use unrevoked. here is the guide:http://androidforums.com/evo-4g-all...-rooting-gingerbread-2-3-5-dummies-guide.html.

but all this is done only of you want to be fully rooted and have the watermark gone. you can still do a lot of things with just your bootloader unlocked as long as you have a recovery installed.

ok clockwork mod and amon ra are two different types of recoveries. use the guide i linked you to te get a recovery installed. you will need to use the HTCdev method in the guide and skip to step#2 to get instructions on how to get recovery installed. i highly recommend that you use amon ra2.3 as it is waaaaaaaay better recovery then clockwork mod. cwm has been know to not wipe very well creating a lot of issues then it is worth.

once you have recovery installed you can the flash the su file or even a rom which will then give you access to the system partitions. one recommendation is to not delete everything, but to get titanium backup ( you will need the pro key as well) and freeze the apps you want first. some apps are needed to make the phone run smooth and if you delete some of those apps, it might make your phone very unstable and seize up or you will get a lot of force closures.

and as far as wireless tethering goes, most roms will have the hacked version of sprint's hotspot. or you can get different versions of the wireless tether app from this guide:http://androidforums.com/evo-4g-all...net-tethering-w-evo-4g-3g-wireless-wired.html
 
I have read thru all of the above posts and have factory reset my phone now seven times trying to get the software to work only to ALWAYS get "Is your firmware too new?":mad: I have now been trying for over 3 hours, I need some help please :confused:........

If I go to APPLICATIONS, MANAGE APPLICATIONS, DOWNLOADED, there sits on my phone EVO Zysploit. But it sure seems to be doing nothing........

How do I get this program to work?

My goal is to simply remove some factory apps that Sprint has loaded on my phone (Blockbuster, Flickr, Footprints, Friend Stream, Kindle, NASCAR, Nova, Sprint TV, etc). Again I want to totally remove these apps. How do I do this?
 
Thank you for your response. I am very new to all of this but if I go down the path using the "HTCdev method" will I be able to remove the factory installed apps like Blockbuster, Flickr, Footprints, Friend Stream, Kindle, NASCAR, Nova, Sprint TV, etc?

I just do not want to spend countless hours and not get to my goal

Yes if you just unlock the phone and get recovery then yes you should be fine by removing bloatware.

But why stay on stock when there are really great rooms out there for the og evo? Mikg is waaaaaaaaaaaaaaay better rom then stock and it is easy to install........but that is up to you.

Plus it had bloatware removed as well.
 
Flashing roms should not change your flash.......but it might affect your use of data and sms........but I'm not sure........just make a basis backup before flashing anything.
 
My other choice is I know a local shop that has a Sprint HTC EVO 4g LTE that has been rooted and has something called "CyanogenMod 10.2 Stable" loaded and the outfit that flashed my regular Sprint HTV 4G (non-LTE) to Straight Talk says they can flash this one too and move my number over.

Suggestions, comments...........recommendations?

Do not know too much about straight talk to comment......and as far as the evo lte goes......it is a good device I used to own one before I upgraded.
 
I had a company provided cell phone for years. About every 18 months we would get a new phone, but I just always liked my old HTC EVO 4G. When I started my own company, I went back to my old EVO 4G. The only thing that bugs me about the HTC EVO 4G LTE is that it is difficult to get to the battery. If the cell locks up & I need to pull the battery.......it could make things difficult.

Do I copy the zip file to the cell phone's SD card?

I have unzipped the file in a folder on my c drive on my computer but when the file unzipped there are several folders & files

What do I do next?

any of the rooted files you see going forward should not be unzipped unless told to do so.

leave it zipped and move it to the phone's sd card......if you want to copy it that is fine as well, but leave it zipped.

You are saying that I should download the zipped file from the link directly to my cell phone's SD card and NOT to my computer hard drive?

well it is faster to download it on your pc and then move it to the sd card.....at least for me.

but whatever way you think is faster is fine.....the su file just needs to be on the card some how some way.
 
I have gone thru the steps of the guide and used the SuperUser to keep the stock rom

My screen now has changed from LOCKED to UNLOCKED but all of the rest has not changed:

first off make a nandroid backup if you have not already.

second get an app called titanium backup(i would recommend the paid version, it is well worth the money).....and first freeze the bloatware as some may affect your phone's performance......most of the ones you mentioned should be fine, but you never know.....some of the bloatware maybe tied into the system apps and may cause your phone to not run properly.

edit: by freezing the apps you can make sure that the phone will run properly.....once you know nothing will happen to the phone then go ahead and delete it or uninstall it via TB.

nope a nandroid backup is done thru your recovery. i explain it in my guide in the second post.....please read this before you do anything else.

and just to reiterate what i say in the guide.....nandroid backup are your friend......they have saved me countless of times.

they are like a save point in a game.....if you mess something up or if something goes wrong you can always nandroid restore back.

I have re-read the following several times

what are nandroid backups and why are they important? well nandroid backups are a complete snapshot of the current state of your phone. it will save everything (contacts, apps and its data, emails and text messages, and any other mods or settings you have on your rom). think of nandroid backups as a safety net. if anything goes wrong or if you change your mind on a rom you do not like, you can always go back and restore a previous nandroid backup. just remember that anytime you make any changes to your phone always make a nandroid backup.

also to save space keep only a few nandroids on your card. nandroids can be pretty big depending on the rom and what you are backing up. and you can rename your nandroid backups. just make sure not to have spaces or weird symbols in the name.

when doing a nandroid backup in amon ra, make sure to keep the first three checked then check wimax (you do not need to do this all the time.) just keep one nandroid backup with your wimax keys backed up on your computer. the rest of the time when doing nandroid backups, you can just backup the first three in amon ra. also if you have your sd card partitioned (see the Partitioning and Moving Apps to the Card section for the how to's) you should select sd ext as well. this wiil also backup all your apps.

clockwork mod will backup wimax automatically.

one of the things you can do to help keep your nandroid backups organized is to rename them. but in order to do that you have to know where to find them. in amon ra recovery they are found in the nandroid folder that is created on the sd card. in clockwork mod they are found in the clockwork mod folder. for amon ra there is a sub folder that is phone specific. mine is named: HT0CVHL01139. inside this folder is your nandroid backup. it should look like:BDES-20120323-0530.

now to rename them, you can rename them to anything that you like, just do not use any weird symbols and do not use spaces within the name. for me i usually just rename them by deleting the BDES part and insert the name of the rom it belongs to. for instance CM7-20120323-0530 could be a name of one of my nandroid backups. also if you notice the numbers correspond to date and time.​

ok the recovery you installed is amon ra recovery.

this is what you do:

1. boot into the bootloader(power off then press and hold power+vol down)
2. select recovery from the bootloader menu
3. select backup/restore
4. select backup
5. make sure that only the first three are checked off
6. make the nandroid backup
 
ok so i added this bit to the guide to help others:
now how do i make a nandroid backup you ask? well i will only go into what amon ra has to say on how to do it. if you have clockwork mod recovery.....the idea is very similar.

so here goes:
1. boot into the bootloader (power the phone off, then press and hold power+vol down)
2. in the bootloader menu select "recovery"
3. select the "backup/restore" option
4. select "nandroid backup"
5. only do the first three that are already checked (unless you have partitioned your sd card)
6. select "perform backup"
7. this may take a bit depending if you opted to compress the nandroid backup or not (it is one of the options you can select). if you did opt to compress it will save space on your sd card, but it will take longer to do.......if you do not then it should only take a few minutes up to 5 min to make a nandroid backup....provided you have the room on your sd card.
8. select return once the nandroid backup is done to go back to the main menu.
9. now you can either reboot or flash a rom which is covered in the next section.
