***Official Galaxy Nexus Pre-Release speculation thread**

Well BMX said that specs had been leaked to a few sites. I guess if you really look closely, he hasn't denied or confirmed any sources. I just thought it was significant that he replied to Lee Johnston the way he did. If it weren't true, I'd assume he would just ignore it.

I guess we'll all know for sure on Tuesday! :D

Just asking a question. :)

The reply he gave Lee is pretty interesting indeed. Can't believe the secrecy regarding the device.

I must say - today 1.5 GHz is a normal clock of all new devices being announced (eg SGSII LTE, HD etc). So I must say this 1.5 was not enough to make any real wildness, not to mentio pity 1.2 GHz, which was something new half a year ago.

Still disappointed, and I'm not alone.

I put no stock whatsoever in Lee Johnston's credibility. I put a lot of stock in black_man_x, who has reportedly been using the Nexus for the last few weeks, works for Google, and has backed up this guy's claim.

And black_man_x is just playing with you, Han: :P

"Yes, yes, say it's gonna have 1.2 GHz.. Ok.. ok.. And one more thing! Add to it a 1700 mAh battery, it's going to be funny! Huh, yeeah.."

Slightly disappointed, but they're rumors. I'll hold out for an official announcement. Not too wild about the megapixels for the rear and front-facing cameras either. 8 and 2 are pretty standard these days. Hopefully they're just that: a rumor. Not sure why you'd spend this much time developing a phone and pouring money into marketing a device that's slightly below the curve of phones that are on the way.

Poor Jungle Cat.

Jungle, I think the next best thing, if these second set of specs are correct, would be quad-core Krait chipsets at 28nm. Those aren't coming out til next year. I'm sure the next Nexus will have them, but it's a pipe dream for anything this year.

This phone will be awesome, man! Drink the Kool-Aid, Jungle.

Drink it!

Please forgive my ignorance, but if it's not using Touch Wiz, then what will it be using? Sorry, I'm not very tech savvy, although after following this thread from the beginning, I've learned more than I would have thought I could!

I was hoping for a better SoC. The new spec's listed does not give the name of the SoC just that it is 1.5. I wonder if that is still the 4460 or something different.

IF we assume the 1.5 ghz clock figure to be true, then that points to it being the OMAP 4460. with the 4430 "turbo charged", it doesn't seem (from what i've been seeing) that OEM's are comfortable going any higher than 1.2. so, if it's at 1.5, it's probably not the 4430.

also, as i said a few pages back, no way is it the new Exynos chip. those chips are only now starting to sample, and Sammy has been locked in on the Nexus hardware for months now.

so, by the process of logical elimination, we're left with it being the 4460. ....and that is a very good thing, imo!

I can't understand how anyone can be disappointed if the new specs are correct. It's essentially what we've been hearing all along. As in the reason we were all drawn to this place to wait around and see if it was true. Did anyone here seriously think they'd pop out of a cake with a 12 Mp camera and quad core? What were some of you hoping for anyway!?!

Hey!
I think you're going too far now!

it will just be the native, stock, vanilla Android launcher. all Andy OS versions come with a native launcher/UI. it's just that the OEM's want to put their own "skin" on the devices a lot of times, and "supplement"/replace the native launcher.

I'm pretty sure I'm not the only one here wondering where the marketing is on this phone. If there were ANY marketing besides the one teaser vid which only showed the profile of the phone and still might not be as accurate a render as we think, please tell us where you've seen any other marketing as I'm pulling my hair out for info over here! lol :D

Whenever an updated OS is released from Google (Eclair, Froyo, Gingerbread, etc.), most manufacturers will put their own "skin" on in order to distinguish it from other phones and to make the user experience "easier". But they take up a lot of RAM and space on storage.

This Nexus will be using "vanilla". Meaning the pure, untouched Google's original OS (Ice Cream Sandwich). It will have it's own launcher. But more importantly it will be untouched, which hopefully means more RAM freed up and more storage. Also, since Google has designed the OS and has handpicked the specs and manufacturers, we can expect it to be the best Ice Cream Sandwich experience possible.

Well to me the specs are just as drab as the bionic accept for the HD screen.

I still say that we are not getting the true story here.
I believe Verizon will get this device with the same specs as the SGSII-HD.

the nexus prime will have the exynos-chipset that is enhanced for entertainment and 3D graphics (=gaming), the exynos 4212, which is also more power efficient (32nm instead of 45nm)

I'm leaning toward 4460 also (can't imagine any manufacturer would ever offer a 50% overclock), unless first delivery isn't until 2012. This Samsung press release from only a week ago says the 4212 "will be sampling to select customers in Q4 2011."

Billboards, ads, posters, commercials...all of that has to be financed post-release .

I'm not getting the disappointment over 4460. It's not outdated or inadequate by any means. We can't tell how it will perform with LTE or the screen because no phone is currently running on an OMAP 4460.

1.2Ghz OMAP4 and 1750mAh are slightly disappointing to me, but not too bad. My confidence in BGR's credibility got damaged when they claimed iPhone5 will be unveiled as Sprint exclusive just a day before Apple event. So this time, I hope they got that wrong.

It's good to see Steven_58 still carrying the Android Forums torch. I remember the good ol' days of every detail of the Incredible. :)

Can't wait for this to come out.

BTW, just ask Steven_58 how much he loves Macaroni Grill :p

Wait... there's no MicroSD card slot?????:eek:

This seems on par with the Vigor to me. The Vigor wins in the camera and processor departments, while the Nexus wins on the screen, internal storage, battery and OS dept's.

I'm not surprised on the lack of a MicroSD slot, as the Nexus S didn't have one either. Still, they should then sell the phone with different storage configurations.

However, I'll have to disagree with you on the processor of the Vigor being superior to the OMAP. Cortex A9 MPCore is 15%-25% faster than Scorpion at the same clock speed. On top of that, A9's multi-core offers true symmetrical multiprocessing, while the Scorpion is asymmetrical. I suspect that simple single-threaded apps can be faster on the Vigor, except that those kinds of apps wouldn't push a CPU anyway. Qualcomm needs to get Krait out, because Scorpion was meant to go head to head with A8, not A9.

Of course, this is assuming that the Nexus releases with a 1.2ghz OMAP.

Wait, am I wrong, but don't you need to have an sd card in place to root/rom/restore? I have the DX, but modding rules and methods are different because of the encrypted bootloader.

Someone please tell me this doesn't mess up modding.

On the Nexus S, the storage is partitioned. Part of the internal storage is used as external when plugged in via USB. I'd be willing to bet that they use this, but I have no first-hand knowledge.
