The official launch date would be given at the announcement right? So we don't really know if the launch date has changed or not bc we don't know when is was OFFICIALLY scheduled for. They could change it internally and we would never be the wiser...
VZ_WIRED said it will NOT change the launch date.
See the post from earlier today.

There's no way it's been delayed out of respect for SJ. I would like to believe that theory as much as anybody, really I would. But it's totally unrealistic. Big businesses survive because they are heartless. They may have delayed it for betther hardware, software, or even better media coverage. So as much as I would like to subscribe tot hat theory it's just not true. Something is up.
Well, there's that. But then again, there's the fact that samsung has confirmed that that's the reason they delayed it.

Samsung Press Release Update said:
A Samsung spokesperson issued a follow up statement to CNET, confirming speculation that the reveal was postponed out of respect, following the passing of Steve Jobs. "We believe this is not the right time to announce a new product as the world expresses tribute to Steve Jobs's passing," the spokesperson explained.

It's not unrealistic. A company can't survive if it alienates its current and potential customers (and the press) due to arrogance or perceived contempt for those customers. Netflix and RIM are two companies who don't seem to give a damn what their customers want, and they're both paying the price.

That's the "official" reason, but I HIGHLY DOUBT that is the actual case. It is a good excuse for them though. After everything we've heard it's hard to take anything at 100% face value.

Hi guys, just wanted to check in as I'm sure you're all disappointed. I can say that the announcement has been delayed for more than 1 reason. I can't really say why, but I can give you a hint. There was an article yesterday somewhere that said ICS is getting daily updates. The reason it's been getting daily updates is because Google wants it to be 100% ready in time for ICS launch.

As for when it will be announced, the date is known. I just can't share it. Sorry guys. Hang tight.

np. The cleaner it works, the better. :D

To answer a question some of you had:

Announcement is delayed.

To my knowledge, actual release is not.

Of course, that's all subject to change.

How can you say that when no one knows for sure what the exact launch date really is. Sure there is guessing and speculation but nothing was ever made official.
Did I read the above wrong from VZ...:)
launch = release...

That is true but like others have said it would've just as easy to give SJ a moment of silence or say a few words about him during the event. but to cancel the entire event? would only make sense if the funeral was the same day.

But VZ_WIRED is also just someone on the internet posting on a forum. There is no proof in what he says as being reliable or official.

yeah those twitter guys or those tipsters arent proved either...

nothing official yet... but indeed those speculations are very amusing :)

Everyone who is freaking out over the delayed announcement/unveiling needs to take a deep breath and relax! No where do I see that the release date has been pushed. Many sources have said, including our very own VZ Wired, that the release has remained the same. The rumored dates have been 10/27, 11/3 and 11/17. If the phone is released on any of these days, I would be perfectly fine with that. Furthermore, we have a press release from Samsung stating that the reason for the delay is to pay respects to Steve Jobs' passing which IMO is an admirable thing to do. As far as a new announcement date? There is nothing official yet according to the PR. 10/27 is a rumored new date, but has not been confirmed. In addition, it takes a lot of planning to hold an event like this with principals from 2 of the biggest tech companies in the world in attendance, securing a venue, assembling media, etc. This stuff is not put together overnight.

If Google and Samsung are using SJ as an excuse to update ICS so that it is as close to 100% at launch, that's fine with me. The less buggy the better for me and if the release date is still one of the 3 above, then it really is a moot point.

In regards to specs, I am leaning towards Lee Johnston's claim that the Prime's specs will be "almost the same" as the SGS2 LTE HD. I also look at GSM Arena's latest specs from yesterday and it basically takes the SGS2 LTE HD's specs and gives it a boost of steroids. The Prime's specs should land somewhere in this vicinity.

Again, let's not overreact to the delayed announcement. If any of the rumored "release" dates hold true, we will all be very happy in the near future.

Now let's get back to talking about the Prime itself. We just had the first video leak with screenshots of ICS. Let's talk about the hardware we see in the video and how ICS looks to us. I like what I see. Who knows how old the video actually is or how up to date that version of ICS really is. That would explain the lag. We are about a month from release give or take. The UI will be much more polished than what we see in that video once released. Nothing that's happened today has changed my mind. The Prime WILL be my next phone!

That's the "official" reason, but I HIGHLY DOUBT that is the actual case. It is a good excuse for them though. After everything we've heard it's hard to take anything at 100% face value.
To say that it isn't the "real" reason is baseless speculation. All we have to go by is what they tell us. If SJ's funeral is Tuesday, or Monday, or anytime next week, the Nexus event will be pretty much forgotten. The press, media, and fans will all be tuned into the funeral. They do not want to get frozen out by the consumers. Neither Samsung nor Google are hurting for money, they can wait a week or so. Better that than come off as heartless to the people who put money in their pockets.

" A good source within the industry has indicated that a lot of the rumors floating around about an impending launch of the Samsung Prime this month, are way off base. According to our source, the Verizon Samsung Prime will not be available this year, and that its release is "definitely" set for the first quarter of 2012. This is one time when we would prefer if our source was wrong. "

Do we believe this?

.... It makes sense to me that BGR has a source that has access to the "rest of the world" Nexus and VZ_Wired and others have knowledge of the Nexus for Verizon. The names are all confusing, but the fact that there are two different phones just keeps echoing in my head. Maybe there's just one though, who really knows at this point. Just a theory. haha

seems someone else is thinking the same thing too

I dont...

Great point Namrak. They could've done that, and maybe they still will.

FWIW, I'm not trying to make any claim that the people running Google / Samsung / Verizon are warm fuzzy touchy-feely types, just that it's beneficial to act is if you are when people are watching. ;)
