THE GSM VERSION of the NEXUS PRIME just went through the FCC. Too tired to link from my DInc2. It's on Phandroid.

Yep, source of information was this thread.

Didn't see full approval in any of the FCC docs online. Best I have a chat with Chris, but yes, it's basically there so far as we know.

What we don't know is what else is there. ;)

I totally agree. The guy is totally legit. I have seen people who are fake before, they don't act like how he is acting. He isn't saying stuff simply for attention. He is saying it because he seems to actually know things matter of factly.

Steven, since VZ_Wired says this thing is a "beast," what do you think that means? Share your thoughts.

I think it will be a cutting edge game changer, frankly. I think it will be innovative and introduce new tech.

Man, I'm hoping this phone isn't too large. After the recent issues I've gone through with my Incredible, I want a pure Google phone, one without the bloat or slow/buggy updates. The last update for the Incredible showed me what HTC thinks of people who own the same phone for over a year. Prior to that update, the Vigor was at the top of my list. Now that part of the list has been relegated to toilet paper.

I don't care which specs end up being true. All I know from the rumors is that this phone will have beefy specs, and it will be a pure Google phone. There are only two things now that can prevent me from purchasing it, and that would be either the size (I think it will be fine, but won't know till I try to grip one), and whether updates are straight from Google like a typical Nexus or pushed through Verizon like every other non-iPhone. The Motorola Droid was a Google Experience phone on Verizon, but we all saw how that turned out - slow to versions 2.1 and 2.2, bloatware added after the original vanilla release, and abandoned within 12 months.

So, if it's a true pure Google phone, and I can grip it (that's what she said), then I'll be purchasing it soon after launch.

cutting edge for sure...easily a 2 year phone.

Additionally, I postulate that the np may have been part of the reason the iPhone5 was sent back to the drawing board. I believe the np introduced too many design and tech innovations for the iPhone 5 to compete with as it was.

I had a really long post here, but realized it was dragging this not only off topic for the thread, but for the forum as a whole. To summarize, I really don't think there was an "iPhone 5" in development, but that is merely my opinion. I think that the model out now is what was always intended to be released.

If anyone else wants to know my FULL thoughts on this, send me a PM. I don't post on Apple's boards, and I moderate an anti-Apple site, so I don't see myself ever posting those thoughts publicly.

Each Nexus seems to set the bar higher and provide a launching point for the variety we love with Android.

All while withstanding the test of time.

Not too shabby for something that started out as Google's way to school manufacturers.

I think the Prime is going to school the Android competition.

Again. :)

And I don't think that the real story is the hardware.

I think the real story is that this will be a fusion device.

The hardware is there to support new levels of integration and ease of use.

That's what I think, anyway.

That news here was like so 200 posts ago. (or 3 minutes real time :D)

I'm a tired first time dad. Part of my exhaustion stems from keeping up with this, wonderfully interesting, game changing, most popular on the internet, thread. :)

Bingo. The major feature of ICS is ICS. It's a major UI overhaul for users and, more importantly, developers. It's an operating system that is smart enough to know if it's a phone or if it's a tablet. Developers only have to write an app once and the user gets to enjoy it in it's most optimized form whether on a phone or a tablet.

This is extremely innovative compared to the iPad which runs identical software as the 3.5 inch iPhone. Developers have to write a separate app if they want it to be tablet optimized. Apple is content with blowing up phone apps and running them on a 9 inch screen. I am not.

I disagree. The most optimized solution will always be the custom design. You can build a minivan or you can build a sports car, but you can't build one vehicle that's equally proficient as both of the real things.

The unification of phone & tablet is probably most helpful to the small development houses who don't have enough resources to release two full featured separate apps.

The more Google tries to innovate and create new things, the more little things will go wrong. This is why non techy consumers are turned off by Android because it's "buggy"... well, yeah, but it's trying to be something special.

That's true of every platform, not just Android. People like Apple's devices because Apple spends a lot of effort to simplify the user interface and enforce uniform standards, sometimes by refusing entry in the Apple Store. Android is much more wild west, which offers freedom and creativity at the expense of some chaos.

We have many posters in here claiming to be weary about ICS. They expect it to be buggy because it's a new OS. It's not a new OS. This is version 4.0.

There will certainly be bugs due to all of the new features and rewritten code, while the parts inherited from previous editions will be more stable. The main thing that matters is whether Google has beta tested it long enough and with enough testers to shake out the worst bugs before release. I'll take ICS as soon as it hits the ground. :)

Launching the NP around the same time as the stratosphere sounds a bit weird.

Why? It's a midrange device with a slide out keyboard. Not exactly in the same league. Not sure when the Vigor is due but that phone seemingly would be one Verizon would want to isolate in the release schedule.

From a Verizon standpoint, yes. But from a Samsung standpoint launching two 4g smartphones around the same time..not so sure. Although the keyboard does cater to different audiences.

I caught up! I spent the whole night trying to catch up in between work and reading this forum. Epic! Here's to hoping that the VZW NP will always fill you up, and never let you down. :D

Don't forget.. there were renderings and specs for the iPhone 5 out there. Solid brushed aluminum back, larger 4" screen, etc. Something serious was floating around out there in rumorville.

The Samsung and Google PR Departments did a quick update to their announcement of the delay. As soon as it hit this forum, the theories of why began, from hardware delays to incomplete ICS. I have to believe that this forum provided the quickest reaction to their announcement. They had to be looking at this forum and realized that they had to do an update or the kakaa would be hitting the fan.

I have a MacBook Pro, and an IP4, use WinVista on another computer and my wife has a Droid Pro. I used to have a Droid X. I am really looking forward to the Nexus Prime. I use Google Chrome browser on my MBP and have Gmail. I think that Google has the brainpower to compete directly with Apple and Samsung makes very good products. I plan on getting the NP on day one. The IP4S doesn't float my boat. We'll all see how good this NP is. I think Google is going to hit a home run here.

I sort of give up on trying to figure out what wwe are going to see. I will accept what comes and make a decision from there. But, the arguments in here have me believing it more possible than before that we could see some exynos. It would be, I don't know, a bold statement maybe, to announce this awesome chip saying they will send it to manufacturers for testing in a month or two's time, and then ship a great device with it.

The biggest thing for me to get over with this is the past. If Samsung does give us something BIG, it will be something that's never been done on Verizon.

Well, good news is: every single Launch Day iPhone 4S has been pre-ordered! They're sold out!

http://gizmodo.com/5847897/no-iphone-4s-for-you-come-back-two-weeks

No reason to sit on the Nexus now that Apple's sales are locked in... ;)

More good news: we have a moderator who apparently never sleeps! Steven58, looks like managing the most epic thread on the web has turned you into a vampire or something :p

Finally, this summer Google sat the manufacturing members of the Open Handset Alliance down and got agreement that the new phones would get unconditional update support from 18 months of time of release.

i wish i could be as optimistic about this as you are. but we haven't heard a single word about this program since it was announced. i wouldn't hold my breath.

edit: they say stay tuned for more details, and as far as i know, no more details were released, right?

Official Google Blog: Android: momentum, mobile and more at Google I/O

imo, the only chance at updates are the google/motorola purchase. my hope is that they force all moto phones to be stock android devices, and that that will force all the other manufacturers to either stay stock, or stay updated to be competitive. but..google keeps saying how they aren't going to change anything with moto, so that might be a pipe dream too

Trust me, Boss: you don't want any of MY blood... heck I'm not even allowed to donate the stuff. I can't GIVE it away! :(

EDIT: a big THANK YOU to all you blood donors! Blood donations saved my life once... oh yeah, back on topic:

SUMMARY: There could be two phones, there could be one. Testers may have gotten a fake phone to test on, while the legendary REAL one is locked in a vault until reveal and in armed guarded warehouses waiting for release. We Verizoneers have been assured we'll be VERY HAPPY. The reveal was delayed, but not release: which could happen anytime between October 27th and November 17th... most likely November 3rd. I think that pretty much sums up the last 50 pages or so :)

The iPhone regularly passes through the FCC the day of, or shortly thereafter, the announcement. The lack of an FCC report doesn't phase me in the slightest. It's about confidentiality.

EDIT: With that said, I'm not even sure on whether it has or hasn't passed the FCC yet anyway. I haven't heard anything one way or another.

And I don't think that the real story is the hardware.

Sometomes i wonder if the hardware really is ever the story.. the more i hang around i realize how mich more impact the software affects the experience..

I think dual core optimization, gpu optimization and general streamlining might be the real story with ICS and with it the Nexus..

Not to mention the detrimental effect a bad software skin can have.. see Moto Blur or the terrible software on the stock Droid Charge..

For all the hand wringing about small differences in specs.. I think it will all be meaningless next to the improvements from a clean and efficient software story..
