***Official Galaxy Nexus Pre-Release speculation thread**

Too bad we don't have another epic FCC screwup like with the 3vo where the actual schematics went online for a short time.

That said - most of the LTE radio/modem popular press I've seen has come in two flavors - over the Marvell multi-mode chip already announced and speculation over cheaper single-mode LTE chips.

Here's my swag at it, take it or leave it - the Prime will feature a multi-mode chip at or below 40nm developed by Samsung and kept under wraps. It will not only allow high performance in a small package but will feature updates by Samsung to end concerns raised by repeated issues with GPS and 3G reception in some quarters.

No source for this - it's a swag. ;)

No wonder the "man" never sleeps.

Don't look at me.

So - I have a question -

How in the heck do you measure diagonal screen size on a curved surface?

(edit - that was the rhetorical question, no need to advise, the actual point and question follows)

If across the actual surface, then the apparent size in your hand may seem less, and the dead-on view will definitely be less.

So - if 4.65, it may not seem/feel that moosey - maybe?

I believe the actually display surface is flat but the cover glass surface on it is curved. So I think diagonal length of screen is measured on the flat display surface underneath the curved glass.

I could very well see Google doing the 16GB internal storage. If they are going to push Google Music and Movies services then they will make the argument you probably don't need anything more then 16GB.

8GB would be more than enough for me, as I don't download movies or large static audio collections, and I upload photos regularly enough that more space isn't needed. I wonder how many phone buyers even use more than 20% of the space they pay for.

That would be a nice surprise. But what updates would those be -- driver?

Does anyone think that the curve is going to make it weaker and more fragile/susceptible to breakage? Especially the glass?

And am I correct in calculating more than one thousand posts a day on this forum in the last two days? Yee ha.

Possibly - there's a trend on the multi-mode chips to go with fully programmable logic. If that extends to easily update-able firmware - and I'm going to go out on a limb and say that it will in this case - then many of the service woes and complaints may be addressable (finally) without arm-waving and broken promises (and a need to change handset to another make/model) as has been all-too-common in the past.

Take all this with a full bag of salt - but - there it is, fwiw.

I don't think it is that curved. Plus the rumored metal casing would help. And it doesn't seem to be an issue in the nexus S which is plastic

Could be - but looking at the beauty shot in the OP, it's hard to imagine a straight line thru the chassis that would leave sufficient room for battery and electronics.

Well, with much great respect, even if it's not due to Steve Jobs' passing, announcing the new handset this close to the iP4s announcement doesn't seem like good marketing sense.

The blogosphere is all agog over the new iPhone, and one must give the devil his due.

I'm still going with Steven's claim of Nov 3, fwiw.

Would you say the curve is similar to that of the Nexus S? I've actually never seen one in person. :o

If so, then I would guess that if it were to be a problem, it would have already happened with the S.

Seriously, FPGA's? Very kewl, but I can imagine what a rogue app could do w/that.

I missed last several pages yesterday. So what's the general consensus on the Nexus Prime spec on verizon now? Would it be more like GSM arena or BGR one? Would GSM model have different spec other than data radios?

I think I love you.....

I love you too, Gramma. :)

I can't say as I've never seen one either, but even so it would be hard to compare as we aren't exactly sure on the degree of curvature in the NP either, despite the profile shot.

I was also concerned about the curvature. I'm sure it'll be a strong phone but I'll probably be very careful not to lean on things with this in my front pocket. What if you trip and fall on your stomach, would the Prime survive in the front pocket? I think I'm going to be paranoid walking around with this thing.

I was thinking rather of landing on it with my rear end, but I get your point. :D

I dropped my OG the first week I had it on pavement and dinged up the metal chassis on the edge of the screen. At about two weeks I noticed some light scuffed scratches on the glass. I put a screen protector on it and not much else. Oy, if you could see it now...

I tried out a Nexus S at Best Buy a few weeks ago. I could see the curved glass from the side, but when you're using the screen, you can't even tell. Seriously, it's not even noticeable. It's just an ergonomics thing. Kinda like a slightly curved keyboard; You can see the curve, but you really don't notice it at all.

The Sammy phones in my personal experience have always done a top-notch job in taking pictures.

For two sensors of the same size, one 5MP and the other 8, the 5 will have less noise and tend to produce clearer images, all other factors being equal.

That said, I think that judging any camera ahead of time based just on the MP spec is a lot like judging a car just based on transmission gear ratios alone.

And for what it's worth - a single frame of a 1080p HDTV is about 2 MP -- so - how many MPs are _really_ needed?

This is true. When I was researching buying a digital camera the sales guy gave me a lot of info. He said that the MP has little to do with the quality of the pictures. The lens is where you get the quality. A Higher MP just lets you blow it up bigger before it get's distorted. And honestly, are we going to be making poster sized pictures from our camera phones? :p

He also said to stick with manufactures that have a good reputation making 35mm cameras. Stick with Cannon & Fuji for example, and stay away from HP & Sony for the other example.

Same goes for phones. They could stick a 1000MP Camera in it, and if the lens is crap you're going to get crappy-foggy-blurry pictures and be able to blow them up real big so everyone can see how crappy they are. :p:D

No consensus yet. Sort of split in here as to which specs the vzw nexus will see.

We do, however, have what we believe to be a reliable Verizon source that is a member of this forum, VZ_Wired, who claims that he has seen this phone and it is a "beast." He seems to be legit, so I and a lot of others are going with him and are going to put our money on this phone having specs comparable, if not exactly, like the GSM Arena specs. Not all agree, but a lot of us are leaning that way. Maybe just hopefully, but hopefully confident nonetheless.
