so... Eldar Murtazin replied to my tweet:

Me: @eldarmurtazin can you [say (i forgot :D)] something about the NPs specs? are they more like the BGR-source said, or more like the GSMArena one's or both wrong?

Him: @THEr4yN dont read both. TI inside

well as he is an analyst and not an official, i'll continue hoping for the exynos 4212 :)

Yeah, maybe Google caught wind of a feature in Ice Cream Sandwich that was going to be a major target for Apple to pursue patent litigation against, they decided to remove or alter it a bit. If they would have announced it as-is today, Google would have been on video unveiling new software that, possibly, may have infringed on an Apple patent or at least would have been fuel for a possible patent dispute fire in the future. It sounds like to me that Steve Job's passing merely happened to give them a small window to address said issue, and they took it. I'm sure, whatever it was, was a good call on Google's part. I wouldn't think this would affect the launch of the phone, just the announcement of it and the next version of Android, as it was apparently a software issue, not hardware.

Yeah but Nash, Samsung's probably got a warehouse somewhere of Primes ready to distribute. If Google's still working on the software, that means there's gonna be a firmware/software update at the store when we go to buy it so Verizon can flash the latest version of ICS. With only 24 days until launch, these things are likely boxed up already and set to go. Unless this scenario plays out, we MIGHT be looking at a MAJOR launch delay  :(

So, does any one have any idea which feature(s) might be disabled due to potential patent infringement?
Murtazin has indicated in the last few minutes that they are same/similar to some features that were under fire in v. 2 and v. 3. Anyone know what those might be?

Whatever the reason is, I think it sucks that Samsung and Google aren't saying anything. I mean, if they really think that they can make the November 3rd date, then why delay the announcement? Unless they are removing things that were integral to their presentation. Every day that passes with their silence only makes them look worse. Granted, like the 4s, the android peeps will still buy this phone. But, with there being a small crowd of people waiting to see what this phone is bringing against the 4s, you'd figure Samsung would want to do what they can to grab that crowd no matter how small it is. Every day that people can't check specs and look at this device, is a day that they can do just that with the 4s. And as we all know, the final days leading up to release are great. You spend a few weeks looking at the sexiest pictures you can find of the device, memorizing the specs, fawning over every little detail until you can walk into the store, or open the package and finally put your hands on it. This is what is going to happen with that small crowd. They will spend these weeks falling more and more for the 4s. Samsung and Google are missing this. Big time.

Maybe a voice assistant that was too similar to Sivia, Truvia, Bulimia, whatever it was called?

Possibly the swipe to camera function on the lock screen?

Who knows. But what I'd like to know is how long does it take to just simply delete some code? Is it really that complicated?

I'm not that into gaming either. I was pointing it out because, to me, it added credence to everything else he was saying about the Prime. And THAT has me excited.

Crap. Hadn't thought of that. But I remember something about Apple having their latest phone manufactured and built but without iOS 5 because it wasn't ready. Maybe it won't be that hard to flash them with the update really quick.

If we're looking at a MAJOR delay, I don't think I can handle that. My limit is maybe mid-November, and then I'm out. I know, I know, surprise surprise, but seriously. I can't handle this much more.

:(

The RAZR and Vigor are looking better every day.

Most likely yes, because they have to track down any references to the removed code elsewhere in the OS and possibly also in apps if that code had a published API to interact with it.

A remedy might be to popup an error message whenever something tries to access missing features, or it might attempt to ignore the problem silently, but if applications start crashing because they were given an error they weren't built to handle, then there's a problem.

EDIT: As others have pointed out, Google probably knew the subjects of patent issues well in advance, so contingency software changes could've been prepared in advance with no more delay than a system upgrade at the time of unboxing upon purchase.

From the Boy Idiot Report on the whole Eldar business:

“Nexus Prime and Android 4.0 are under question,” Murtazin posted on his Twitter account Tuesday morning. “Google removing some features which are subject of patent war. No timeline for this job.” The plugged-in Russian blogger has a solid track record with inside information. This accusation is somewhat serious, however, and we should note that it is not confirmed. To think that Samsung and Google might have tried to appease clients, the media and consumers by bringing up Jobs’s passing is disheartening at best. Samsung did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

Are all phone manufacturers evil heartless monsters?

Geez. I was hoping that this non-Columbus day would be ripe with good leaks and maybe an official announcement. Seems like it will be mostly depressing.

And I don't even want to read the newspaper with the whole Bears disaster.

I'm not sure I buy the "removing software features in ICS" report.

1. Patent issues in Android vs. Apple have been known for a while now. There is no need for last minute changes.

2. If they release ICS, and Apple has issue with the implementation, they will file in an injunction to ban sales, which takes several months. During this time, Google could remove the offending code before a judge has to make a determination. So again, no delay would be warranted.

In any event, hope we get some offical word on release date.

Am I the only one not even remotely interested in the Samsung Note? It's too big for a phone. It's more tablet than phone, and you'll look lik an idiot trying to talk into it.

Also, as far as Murtazin goes, he has more credibility than nearly anyone I can think of. He's had access to devices months before any leaks. His reviews are always on point. He knows his stuff and seemingly has connects everywhere.

Also, if the devices are boxed up and ready to go, and they are changing the software, it's likely that as soon as you turn the phone on it prompts you to update it. That, or they all get unboxed and redone.

Gogogo delay abit more, so I can buy Note without a second thought!!!!!! I can wait max a week not more from release of note!

ROTFL!!! That's what I've been thinking, but I didn't really want to say it out loud for fear of being crucified by this restless crowd. [BlueBiker now cowering in a corner]

I do not believe there is a ICS patient problem. The Problem maybe with the soft buttons as I stated before. The soft buttons need to be in control at all times.

1. Backing out of an app after it is in the process of loading would be a big problem.

2. Not being able to stop a phone call in mid stream , a big problem.

3. The are apps that will lock ICS up because of the soft buttons being in in the root code correctly.

PS.. I said I was jumping off the prime wagon for days has nothing to do with the delay, i still will get this device on Nov. 3. I have other task that need more attention. but i will pop in now and then just not as much as before.

Actually if the Note was available in the States at the same price as the Prime, I'd get it. Bigger the screen, the better. I wouldn't look like an idiot talking into it because I rarely make phone calls. And if I did make a ton of calls, I'd just use a bluetooth.

I'm getting a really bad feeling about all this ICS/delay nonsense. Freaking Apple and their stupid lawsuits. I heard they are suing Iran and Iraq for brand infringement.

I had such high hopes for the Bears. It kills me to see Cutler on his ass after every play.

I don't like all of this bad news that is coming out. We should be hearing GOOD things with release coming. Not news about delays and removed features.

I'm only marginally interested in it. Whatever interest I have in it, though, is crushed by the fact that its not likely to be stateside any time soon, and if this nexus release doesn't get better, Samsung will have left abitter taste in my mouth. Haven't owned a Samsung device yet, so I was stoked to give them a shot.

capacitive buttons and software buttons work the same way
