***Official Galaxy Nexus Pre-Release speculation thread**

Lordy have I opened up a keg of worms here.... GrandmaDroid, BAIL ME OUT!

I am not a trademark lawyer. I was simply positing an opinion on the word Nexus, though I DO understand Han's position that Google would never work with Samsung on a separate phone named "Nexus". I'm just concerned that a "Galaxy" series phone (even if called Nexus) may be bloated and have updates come from Samsung... which is historically miserable about updating their phones.

If the Galaxy-Nexus-Prime comes out as a pure Google Experience phone with updates straight from Google, we'll all be happy campers. But with little else to talk about this morning, I thought I might express a concerned opinion... didn't mean to start a semantics battle here :)

I think Chief was throwing out a "what if" kinda thing. Let's not get carried away people. :)

I see your point Chief and I don't think you have anything to worry about there. There is no indication that this won't be a Nexus device and if history is our guide, updates will come from Google (which is a good thing cause Samsung's...and Verizon's...track record for updates is pretty awful!).

Wow, shitty start to the day:
1. Rear ended someone (other car has no damage, my front end is busted).
2. Missed an important meeting (see 1).
3. Almost got a summons for not having my original insurance card (yay for car cleaning).

Hopefully, some solid Prime news gets released today :(

You blew your front end with no damage to their back end? You driving a Smart car or something? :p

Anyway, glad you (a) are alright and not injured; and (b) skipped the summons - those things suck!

so here is my opinion:

1. Samsung Galaxy Nexus (SCH-i515):

-another version of the nexus prime, exclusively for verizon
- will be released on november 3rd
- CDMA
- OMAP 4460 (incl PowerVr SGX540 @~380MHz)
- 1GB Ram
- 4,65" curved HD SuperAMOLED Screen
- 5MP Camera
- Very thin & light
- 32GB internal storage, NO microSD-Card-Slot
- no touchwiz / verizon bloatware, as it has got the 'nexus' in it's name
- 1750mA/h battery
- 4g LTE & NFC

2. [Samsung] Google Nexus Prime (I9250 | US-Version)

-will be announced soon, and released ~ 2-4 weeks after the galaxy nexus
- GSM
- exynos 1.5GHz dual-core soc (probably the exynos 4212)
- 1GB Ram
- 4,65" curved HD SuperAMOLED Screen
- 8MP Camera with an enhanced sensor & lens
- Very thin (maybe not as thin as the galaxy nexus) & light
- no touchwiz, pure vanilla
- HSPA+ only
- NFC
- ~2000mA/h battery

2.5 [Samsung] Google Nexus Prime (I9250 | EU-Version)

- same as the US-I9250, but with 4G LTE support and maybe an earlier release

that's what i think of all these rumours.. i know you guys don't like it, but face it... verizon always got the 'crappy' (compared to the other ones [but not so bad at all]) ones...

well maybe i'm wrong, but i'd like the EU-Version to come with these specs :D

Shhhhh, you guys, not so loud! r4yN is dreaming! Shhhhh. Look! Isn't he adorable?!

Ah, that sucks man. Was with the wife a couple of weeks ago and this teenager in a huge Daddy's-SUV was coming up behind us, not looking straight ahead but leaning out his window flipping someone off and yelling at them, and bam, he rear-ends us. Thankfully it was a low speed deal coming out of a parking lot. But such a hassle!

At least the woman I hit has no damage to her car; she barely felt the collision. I can't believe I couldn't stop in time at such a low speed and with so much follow distance(rain didn't help either). Guess being too careful (as I'm consistently mocked for being) isn't careful enough. ;_;

Hopefully some good news balances out the day. :(

Edit: @The_Chief: It's so odd, I was rear ended in a 3 car pileup last year (I was the third car to get hit) and I had to replace the entire rear bumper. I own an 01 Accord and the car I hit looks like the same model. I could barely see the scratches on her rear bumper.

In reply to what BMX had said about the battery...

P3Droid:
@black_man_x Yeah, I know but 5 hours isn't that bad for all that its doing

All I can say is please don't be that bad! 10 hours would be good enough for me...maybe more since I am not a power user...

Like the way you think, r4yN! I would be fine with this scenario.

We're on the hype machine now.

If the rumored specs are pretty much agreed upon...and those specs are Fantastic...when they are confirmed, it's has no shock value.

If the rumored specs are decent and then the confirmed specs are much better, everyone in the technology blog world will go nuts.

This is about hype people and if it wasn't, the phone would have been announced already. Apple has the public snatching up iPhones like crazy after the biggest announcement let down I can recall. Why? Because the are the best brand marketers in the world and they can spin anything in their favor. Faster processor, better camera and a voice assistant that few will use outside of showing it off to their friends and they are CLEANING up!

Google's PR and marketing departments have been awful for awhile. If the Nexus Prime is their prized pig...it had better oink! They will have to win the old fashioned way...having a superior product. But if they can market it well too...watch out!

Took me since 10 AM to catch up to this runaway thread. You people can't quite talking about this phone...I wonder how many posts would have been posted if the specs were released in September? Maybe Google IS getting better in the buzz department??? Let's hope the phone is loaded! 16GB storage, no micro sd card expansion and an older OMAP chipset ain't gonna cut it.

The Motorola Droid was Google's coming out party. The NP should be the phone that asserts their dominance. If not...they have failed. It's that simple. You don't think Google knew there was no iPhone 5 launching? You don't get to be as big as they are without being able to find a source with good Apple intel. It's the right time for them to put their best foot forward. That's why they delayed the NP announcement. They aren't going to get many shots like this and they need to hit a homerun. Google has taken almost all of the market share away from everyone they can with the exception of Apple.

Apple has released a marginal upgrade with the same 3.5" screen, WP7 isn't getting much traction, BlackBerry is on its last leg, and webOS is dead. Damn...it doesn't get much easier than that! I'm a business man outside of this forum and I will be very disappointed if Google screws this up.

the problem with google is they don't know how to market anything properly. I don't see that changing anytime in the near future.

I don't see how its possible for them to take any of the market share from non tech people/izombies. For all the issues with the iphone it still just works out of the box

We're hoping for the same... but there's this persistent rumor about the 18th that I'm guessing would be the global version or something. If it hits everywhere BUT the U.S. (like SGS2 did) I'm gonna be ill as a hornet.

Ok, so BGR has forever been compromised in my eyes, and even if I see full-blown video, pictures, and a live stream of the Hong Kong event on BGR, I won't believe it.

Apple may launch 'iPad mini' in early 2012 to fend off Kindle Fire

In this article, they're using Brian White as their sole source. This is the same guy who said Apple was releasing an iPhone 5 that would steamroll everyone and that people should buy up stock now (before ip5's release) because iPhone 5 was going to make the value soar.

Geez.

Can anyone explain why all the good phones are always released everywhere else and then the US gets it like months later?

5 hours? Ouch. Disappointing. But, in my opinion, still worth it. I'll just have to plug in at work and in the car. I do that with my OG droid already.

This is exactly what I was thinking too. All you Verizon customers, get your vaseline ready, because they are about the F*** you in the A** again. I really want to jump to Verizon, I do, but crap like this is what keeps me stuck on sucky AT&T!! I really don't have any excuses for staying with iPhone at this point though. If this theoretical "Galaxy Nexus" is as much of a let down on Verizon as I think it is going to be (slightly overclocked Bionic with ICS), I will probably just end up going with the SGSII on AT&T. At least I will get to keep my unlimited data plan even though its worthless on a network where you always drop calls.

F*** you Verizon!!!! Give me a D*** exynos powered device!!!

Got you! thanks! I was thinking about my Thunderbolt where both the sd and the sim cards are located under the battery. I can't remember off the top of my head how my wife's charge is set up.

on my captivate the SD slot is kind of above and to the left of battery and sim card is slightly above the battery you can remove both while battery is still inserted

Maybe it has something to do with the fact that they don't have to deal with specific carriers over there? They're all pretty much on the same network. And over there, manufacturers dictate terms, not carriers. I bet it's a huge pain to go through all the "No, put this in, not that" garbage from Verizon and the rest.

Also, the dollar is less valuable nowadays, so they make more money off a bigger population there.

Can anyone explain why all the good phones are always released everywhere else and then the US gets it like months later?

Here's the upshot: virtually everywhere else in the world the phones are sold outright and you can put them on the carrier of your choice. But in the U.S. you pick the carrier first and THEN the phones THEY provide. They cut the price of the phone in exchange for a contract.

SO in the U.S. carriers have tremendous say in the phones they sell. Making high-tech phones overseas is easier and more cost-effective for OEMs.

Now they are just effing with people :D They know every word they say is scrutinized and 5 hours isn't acceptable on a smartphone. I'd take a deep breath and imagine what you would say if you were in the know when the rest of the world wasn't. I know I'd be having fun with it. ;)

the problem with google is they don't know how to market anything properly. I don't see that changing anytime in the near future.

I dunno...I think you are going to get a lot of non-technical people at 4.65" 720p display. Even people that aren't technical know what 720p represents because of their TV's. Hard to look at a big screen and then pick the iPhone...at least it would be for me. 3.5" screen...that's pretty damn lame.

Can anyone explain why all the good phones are always released everywhere else and then the US gets it like months later?

because we all buy our phones without any kind of contract... we buy it for the full price and chose a carrier we want and include its sim-card... so we can switch to another carrier when we want to... also all of our carriers use gsm, so there's no CDMA-version needed...

so they just have to release a single version of the phone, and not 4 for every carrier or whatever

moreover you americans buy a new phone when your contract allows it (24 months) which is usually in november and it would be senseless to release a phone when noone is able to buy it anyways...

If this is heading over to AT&T, are we looking at a $199 or $299 upgrade? I was about to pick up a SGSII but decided to wait on the Prime and see where it's going..!

I wouldn't hold my breath on seeing the np on att subsidized before end of the year. The only way you probably get it is to get unlocked one for around 600 or so. That is my guess will have to wait till their announcement to know for sure

From BMX...

black_man_x The Panda King
Wasnt really joking about the battery... Just being honest with that amount of power you ain't getting bb all day batt life.. #truth

Damn, I want a phone with killer battery life...:(

This is probably where I'll get off. Overly poor battery life is unacceptable for me. I might be saying "Hello RAZR!". HD screen would be cool, but not nearly as important as battery life for me. This is a VERY sad day :-(

On the BMX battery front, someone asked him if it's better or worse than the Nexus S and he responded:

it's worse. With my S on att I get ten hours. This.. Tops 6 hours.. Its too thin

So 5 to 6 hours.

You can thank our Nazi carriers who don't follow standards. Verizon is a prime example. This is why AT&T gets all the good phones.

Out of the 4 main carriers in the US...AT&T is #4 in terms of quality phones in my book. Just sayin :)

T-Mobile and Sprint are 1 & 2 IMO.
