Root [ROMs Froyo] Upgrade your Xperia X8 to Froyo 2.2

Hello,

I used your manual to root, backup and install my x8 with Floyo (2.2.5) v1.0 HACKDROID. It works splendid. I have just one question. My keyboard keeps vibrating, also after I turned off the vbrate settings ilanguage & keyboards settings and in the sound settings and in the cyanogenMod settings. Clearly I am missing something, but I hope you can help me.

Thanks in advance for your answer

Keyboard vibrating is called haptic feedback... some like it it gives then confidence to type faster. anyway... if you go under keyboard settings you should find it under Language & Keyboard > Touch Input > Text Input > Vibrate when typing.

cheers :)

Hey man, Thank you a lot. This guide is so good.

Yesterday at nigth I changed my X8 to Froyo. It is so good :D:D

Sadly I have two problems:

1. Even I change my "baseband version" to XXXXX15 (M76XX-TSNCJOLYM-53404015) before upgrade to froyo, Actually (after of the upgrade) when I turn off my X8 I allways see the "HACKDROID" Image. What can I do?

2. My "mobile network" doesn't work. I have configured the APNs from my Local Provider (Movistar - Colombia) but I never can connect to the 3G network.

Mi X8's data are:

* Android Version: 2.2.5
* Baseband Versi

Hi,

does you phone qualify the prerequisites?
Xperia X8 must be E15i [NOT E15a]
Xperia X8 must have the latest firmware: Eclair 2.1.1.A.0.6
Xperia X8 must be ROOTED - check for SuperUser app
Xperia X8 must have the lastest Busybox installed (from Android Market - it's free)

if not go to Old Method of installing xRecovery v0.1

cheers :)

Hi Gabe,

I own a xperia x8

My baseband version is xxxxx15 and on El15i and on 2.1.1

Yday, i rooted my phone and xtracted the xrecovery.rar in my pc and then copied the 3 files from sd card to the /system/bin folder and tried to reboot the phone to get into the xrecovery, but i was unable to go into the xrecovery console.

However, i installed busybox installer from market and then installed the busybox v1.17.1 and it got successfully installed.

Should i also download the xrecovery.apk and install it to get the xrecovery working. ( because i had already unzipped and copied the 3 files into /system/bin)

Also advise me if i should go for 2.3 rom directly from 2.1 ? and are there any known bugs or issues that you are aware of.

Hi,

Firstly, if xRecovery working there is no need to re-install. You might want to consider ClockworkMod Recovery since most custom roms require ClockworkMod Recovery to install.

Secondly, I think it is a matter of preference. But if you compare the Android builds with Windows as follows: Eclair = Windows XP --> Froyo = Windows Vista --> Gingerbread = Windows 7 --> Ice Cream Sandwich = Windows 8.

Which will you choose?

cheers :)

Thanks for the quick reply Gabe. You are the angel :-)

I have copied the 3 files to /system/bin and tried restarting the phone and pressing the back button endlessly to only see the phone booting normally and not getting into the xrecovery ( for backing up or installing new ROM )

That's when i tried to install the busybox manually and now bb 1.17.1 is installed , but till the xrecovery is not coming up.

So would you suggest me to download the xrecovery apk and install manually or ClockworkMod Recovery.

I would prefer the ice-cream sandwich. Sorry, can you also provide the link of it here.
Thanks in advance

You rock !

Hi,

If you phone does not go into xRecovery menu you have not installed xrecovery.

1. check for successful root (is superuser app installed in your phone)
2. check if you have copied the three files successfully into /system/bin

try to follow the video provided in my post.

btw ice cream sandwich is not out yet. maybe next year.

cheers :)

Gabe, I installed the xrecovery following the good video given here.

Now, i am able to get into the xrecovery console and have done full backup. All set to upgrade my phone :-)

Now, kindly suggest me which is the best verison( you feel ) i should upgrade. ( i basically require to move apps to sd card and should be able to use all common apps(music, camera, sms) and the mobile network is very critical to me )

If possible kindly provide the link for the suggested version.

Hi,

Gingerbread ROMs are good... Try GingerXperia V9 or GingerDX v17
Both guides are available in this section... look for it.

Gabe,

I Found the Gingerdx ROM from here http://androidforums.com/x8-all-things-root/391956-rom-v017-upgrade-gingerdx-2-3-doixanh.html

I have xrecovery installed and able to get into the xrecovery menu now.

One pre-reqs is to install clockworkmodrecovery for upgrading to 2.3.

" For those who do not have ClockworkMod Recovery
a) download ClockworkMod Recovery
b) flash the ClockworkMod Recovery zip file using xRecovery
c) reboot into ClockworkMod Recovery "

Can't we upgarde to gingerdx without CWMR ?

Hi,

sorry nope... all versions after v13 requires ClockworkMod Recovery.
As I understand CMR is a better than xRecovery because it is a more powerful tool.

DOXIANH of XDA is a God Sent Angel, without whose innovation most Xperia X8's owners will be like orpahned children in the smartphones market.
Thanks for the wonderful ROM GingerDxv017.

Thanks to Gabe who is patiently answering all noob's questions :-)

Gabe you are an inspiration man.

I successfully upgraded the 2.1.1 to 2.3.7 ( Ginger DX v017 ) and was pleasant to see my photos and music intact.
I had to import the contacts anyway.

The only shortcoming i am facing is that the apps which were installed earlier for myself ( winamp, quick pic ) and for kid (talking gina, colouring kids) are not in there, trying to search.....
anyone can help here.

Also phone is stating that sd card is full.

hi,

For apps you have to re-install.
or restore from a backup app like Titanium Backup Pro.

cheers :)

Gabe,

You mean to say that if we have the titanium backup pro app installed we can restore the old apps, this will be helpful to me the next time if i happen to upgrade from Ginger Dxv017 to any other good one.

one question to you - where are the .apk files of the apps we install from the market ? any ideas ?

BTW, which version is your X8 running on and any feedback on it ?

hello guys! I would like to ask, if upgrading from v.2.1.1 to v.2.2 (froyo) is it possible that all my contact numbers on phone book will be deleted?

You need to backup the contacts and then import them after upgrading to new ROM.

When i upgraded, all my contacts disappeared and when i imported i got only 70% of them, don't know what happened to the rest.

Hey guys I just successfully rooted and install 2.2 on my x8 using this guide. Thanks.

But now I try to update Market, Launcher Pro and System as you advised but the Apps always fail to install. Is there a specific way to install these update?

Oh and another thing is when I try to install games that are around 30mb or more the installation hangs and the phone crashes. Does this happen to anyone else?

First of all, i would like to understand why everyone are trying to upgrade stock rom(2.1.1) to 2.2 instead of directly going to 2.3.5 or 2.3.7 ( gingerdx v015,17 ) as suggested by gabe somewhere in this forum.

I believe. The gingerdx ROM has been developed after observing the issues in earlier versions( and most of them have been fixed )

I have upraded it last weekend and it is stable and i don't find any issues at all except one, when i try to put the phone on speaker while dialing a call, the speaker icon just doesn't get on and i have to try multiple times to get it on. Has anyone observed this issue in any of the custom roms ?

Although i haven't tried downloading a 30mb app to my phone.I would suggest whoever is having 2.1.1 with 015 as baseband can directly upgrade to 2.3.5 or 2.37 gingerdx

sir gabeyong,
i am new in this rom and it works on my sony ericsson w8 walkman phone, why is it i cant connect into the wifi and i cant login into the gmail acct so i wasn't able to access into the market with your all regards ,thankyou for advance :)

Prerequisites:
1) Make sure you have Rooted and xRecovery installed on your Xperia X8.
2) Make sure you have new baseband xxxxxxx15 - check <settings><About phone>

If your baseband ends with 006 and you install this custom ROM your phone will hang/boot loop at Hackdroid Logo

I got baseband wich ends with 15 and my phone hangs, pls help me :(
