Guys, we're slowing down, I think...
Nothing new for a bunch of hours... Hmm..

If Samsung Unpacked is going to happen 19th, and it is less than one week of time to this day, Sammy should send invitations to journalists, and nothing happens...
What do you think?

I think they don't have to announce a product at a big event. Although it does seem odd that they were going to announce with Google, and then they canceled everything.

Where is Stevens usual post around this time "have tons of new info will post as soon as I review it, and I'm driving to work". Steven!!!

I can't agree. If google, and Samsung want to get some income and good sells, they should make a good advertising campaign, and publicize it on big event.
That's just my opinion..

I dont think there is a need for invitations. This was already a scheduled all things d event. Journalists will already be covering it. Personally, I would be surprised if they unveiled in Hong Kong.

It was a pretty last-minute change.

I read a day or so ago on one journalist's site that it's too late to book a flight out.

It's too late to book a flight at a discount, or on your favorite airline.

I don't know what to think about this issue with invitations, with the press focused on CTIA this week.

Press might not like it, but they could easily simulcast the event and put us there.

Google has the muscle and Google/Samsung have the budget to handle this any way they want.

So - I'm not sure that it follows that if there aren't invites, then nothing must be happening or we might not be hearing about it.

Plus - what language will the event be sponsored in? I've been to events in Asia where the native language was spoken, with an interpreter at a second mike tossing English for us Westerners.

There's a lot of smart ways they can create buzz about the handling of the event itself and getting the word out.

I don't know about you, but aren't you a little tired of having to F5 the blogosphere to scrape up some crumbs?

Until now, we've had live events, and then they were reflected on to the web.

And if you think about it, that's like hooking up a motorcycle instead of a horse to your buggy - after all, this is 2000 plus 11 and I think it's about time that the tech industry actually used the web properly.

But - that's just me, I could be wrong. I often am. :) ;)

You may be right, especially with that F5. As we watched CTIA on the web - this is a great idea, i think. The just don't have to invite anyone to the event, the can stream it!!

Random thought. I'm really hoping the Prime has gorilla glass. I hate having to use a screen protectors on touchscreen devices... The stuff feels so cheap.

I'm not sold on Gorilla glass after my wife's iPhone grass cracked less than 48 hours after removing it from the box. It wasn't even dropped or damaged. It was sitting on the table next to our bed and cracked during the night.

On the other hand, the plastic screen on my Incredible is still 100% free from a single scratch and I have never used a screen protector or case since the day it launched. I regularly drop it in my pocket with my keys. Sure, then plastic over the camera lense has multiple cracks (does not obscure the lense though), but the front screen is still flawless.

Could be wrong here, but I didnt thing iphone had gorilla glass. And besides, it is still glass afterall.

.....not to mention you can't extrapolate the strength of gorilla glass in general from one experience (e.g., the glass was defective).

Interesting... manufacturer defect perhaps? I've heard nothing but positive from people who've had phones with Gorilla glass. But maybe I simply haven't done enough research...

I think we have reason to not be thrilled they chose the 4460 for the Google flagship phone. The 4460 is an overclocked 4430 and I'm running that in my Droid 3. While we are talking about twice the RAM, and higher clock speeds, I've not been impressed with the D3. My Tbolt is a faster device for everyday functions even at the same clock speed. And the Tbolt has a single core Qualcom cpu.

Only thing I can think of is TBolt w/slower ~A8 Snapdragon only has to drive a WVGA screen instead of the D3's qHD. In this set of tests, the D3 averages out to 42% faster than TBolt across the six benchmarks. Maybe Blur is slowing down your D3?

The Believer - Believes the last thing said about a particular topic regardless as to whether it's been disproved or not.

Believer: "The clock speed is going to be 66kHz! That's it I'm getting a Bionic and becoming a priest!"

Loved this post, thx for the inspired creativity Rich! :)

Gorilla glass is great and all, but we have this common discussion repeated in about every forum and in the Lounge and in the Android Lounge -

A: I hate that I trusted Gorilla Glass. Mine's scratched up from sand.

B: Gorrila Glass doesn't scratch.

A: Mine did.

B: I carry mine in my pocket with my keys, you don't understand. You should try it.

A: I did. It's scratched.

B: I don't believe you, you're a liar.

Mod: Sand is the active ingredient in sandpaper, and crystals can get mighty hard and Gorilla Glass is good, but not perfect.

B: Here's a YouTube showing how great Gorilla Glass is.

So - everyone has their own preferences. I live in the desert, we have sand, I cover my Gorilla Glass with a screen protector.

But that's just me (and the rest of that line, you all know by now).

If Google would market the Nexus right and did a one phone for Android then they would get the respect they deserve. To a lot of common consumers, Android is all the same. They don't realize with a Nexus phone you receive your updates first like Apple. You can always be on the latest thing. Even your previous Nexus will be supported like tthe older iphones. The only other Android phone that has amazing quality performance and iisn't stock is the Galaxy line in my opinion. No other phone sales like them. They actually give Apple heat & sales competition. Just my opinion guys. Might be why Google has them making the next Nexus. Their innovative and raise the bar.

I totally agree, and I think that's what Google and Sammy were trying to do (at least those are the rumors...they are being very particular about how this is introduced and marketed). That is...until they totally botched this announcement!

Even if it was not gorilla glass, I'm still not sold on the idea of using glass just yet, especially after Verizon refused to take the phone back or repair it. If it was just defective glass, then they should have covered the repair/replacement, instead they tried to sell us the insurance at a cost of $180 ($10 + $170 deductible).

True, and Gorilla glass isn't indestructible, but I'm sure most people will agree it is better than normal glass. I'm not sure what the point is arguing against Gorilla glass until something better comes along.

Haha, I trusted gorilla glass too. Then one day I was just sitting on the couch and I pulled my phone out of my pocket. The screen was covered with cracks. I didn't even drop or hit the thing, it just...cracked. My OG Droid has been on a steady decline since then.

Wait, wait, wait. They make glass out of gorillas?!?!?!:eek::eek:

No wonder sand scratches Gorilla Glass, Gorillas HATE SAND! They live in jungles. Maybe they should make lizard or cactus glass.

Glad I could help
