Root No hotspot after Revolutionary root

Whats the secret ingredient for hotspot after Revolutionary root and superuser install. No custom rom or kernels just root. sometimes states not activated wth provider and sometimes doesnt show any message after turning on hotspot widget. WiFi teather working fine.

Keep it simple phone geeks, just rooted and not up on all the lingo....

Not sure whats going on there. Rooting your phone alone should not have any affect on the ROM or Kernel already there. Rooting just basically makes the phone writable. And opens up Nand so you can do Nandroid Backups. You could try installing another ROM and see if that works.

basically when you root the rom you get is the same rom you started out with. the only difference is that you have the su app which allows you access to the system partitions. if you want the hacked sprint hotspot then you need to flash a rom. try mikg2.56 it has all bloatware removed and has the hacked hotspot.

and before you do so, make sure to make a nandroid backup. you might want to think about switching recoveries as well. amon ra is a much better recovery. instructions on how to switch recoveries and how to flash a rom is the http://androidforums.com/evo-4g-all...ooting-dummies-guide-gingerbread-edition.html.

ok, believe im following a bit. Here is where its weird to me.....2 evo 4g phones rooted with Revolution, zip file su-2.3.6.3-efgh-signed. Both phones confirmed rooted with wifi tether (didnt work on first phone because didnt install zip file). wifi tether now works fine on both and have hotspot on only 1 with no other changes to rom. Can turn on wifi and pick up signal and connect from other evo's not rooted.

Just rooted both phones and used zip file, nothing more. Gives message that you have not paid for this service, contact your sprint provider....something like that.

yes that will happen. your current rom does not have the hacked hotspot. your tethering app will work but you need to either flash the hotspot hack or flash a custom rom like mikg2.56 that has the hacked hotspot included.

Ok got ya. we will head in that direction. Thanks....was just odd that 1 phone worked and other didnt. Guess its like anything else no too are exactly alike.

Neither of them are working because neither of them have the "corrected" hotspot application.

You MUST flash a new ROM with a "hacked" hotspot in order to use it.

Rooting does not enable hotspot on its own.

I'll give ya a hint...

its Gingerbread 2.3.3 + Sense 2.1

and its called [ROM] - [MikRoms] - [10/5/2011] - MikG v2.56 - Re-Engineered GB Sense 2.1 + 3.0

Ok. Checked on gingerbread 2.3.3 + sense 2.1. Guessing this is custom rom different from gingerbread update from sprint. If it is custom rom what does it do basically....will it improve other aspects of the phone.

This is getting deeeeeep for an amature.

Well....I got a bit confused after finding rom we were discussing. There were several listed.....which one and what about wiping. Which one under gingerbread2.3.3.+ sense 2.1

Rxpert83 posted the links for you for mikg2.56. but it is also found in the roms/kernel sticky under Gingerbread 2.3.3 + Sense 2.1 and it is the second from the bottom of that section.

Ok thanks again. I've gotten cross eyed from all the research on this stuff, didn't see the download link. Time 4 a break. Sorry
