Just wanted to point out, the render in the OP has the side-view of the phone upside down and is a tiny-bit outdated.

Here's a corrected one from the same guy:

is it wrong of me to want this post to get quoted 50 times just so i have to scroll through an entire page devoted to its awesomeness?

Pardon a stoopid question here, esp. as I've been here through all ~8000 posts, but do we have any reason to believe that render looks like the actual phone? I thought this was just someone's well-done idea of what it might look like, given some vague and mostly unconfirmed descriptions.

It just feels weird praying to a graven idol that might turn out to be the wrong god.

Well, the side view at least was straight from the Samsung/Google teaser video, so we know that one's right. The front view is based on rumors and leaked photo and video of the actual device, which are pretty likely to be accurate. In short, we're pretty sure of what it looks like.

I disagree. I don't think that the front profile shot is of a final product. Just my opinion though

You could be right, but in any case, how many variations can there be on the face of a phone where there aren't any buttons? I don't think it can look much different, really, except for maybe the shape somewhat.

Surprised nobody seems concerned that the same soft nav bar scheme HC uses is taking up valuable display space on a small display (compared to a tablet). It is bad enough on a 7" display, but a crime with a phone display. This means the relative display size is actually smaller than Gingerbread devices. I would rather have Gingerbread, if the nav bar takes up display space.

Do the buttons hide when playing games or videos? If not, seems kind of lame. The 4.65" display is really less than a 4.3" if the nav button can not be hidden.

Added: No, if you can not hide the nav bar in ICS, it IS lame on a phone.

regardless of what the final product will look like, i'm sure it will look awesome. its just so hard to make that flat black slab look bad and samsung seems to have aesthetics down pretty well (see apple lawsuits). and that render is pretty close to what is in the video and that is our best guess as to what it will look like now. i just can't wait to get that curved little beauty in my paws.

somebody did the math and calculated that it will have roughly 4.3" of usable space with the nav buttons. and the going idea at the time is that they will go away during video playback and be able to be brought back up. i'm sure google didn't overlook these points when they were designing how the OS would work.

Edit: Here ya go http://www.droid-life.com/2011/10/1...dimensions-new-render-and-usable-screen-size/

Nobody's concerned because that's the beauty of software buttons: they're only there when you need them. When you're gaming or watching a movie, they'll disappear, giving you the full 720p 4.65" display to work with :)

That's not how Honeycomb works...

Good point. It just doesn't look to me that the front and side profiles could be of the same phone. The side profile looks as if it has larger radius corners, and the front view's metal case doesn't look right on the side profile.

Yeah, we tried to figure it out earlier. We've gotten claims that yes the buttons hide during movies & games, and then a later no that they're permanently displayed. But I agree with you that it'd be a shame to waste screen space on a small device when there are reasonable ways to manage auto-hiding.

The hiding of the Nav buttons was a hot debate about 1000 posts ago. Wow that seems like a long time but it was probably only yesterday.

Really? They hide when using apps?

All right folks, nothing to see here, so move along :o

Soft nav buttons would make game emulators unplayable on a phone. Anybody that has played emulators with virtual controls knows what I mean.

BTW, sorry I missed this same discussion already, but the thread is just a teeny bit long ;)

That's what everyone is hoping for since no one knows yet.

And a key reason I will NEVER put HC on my Flyer. GB on the Flyer already smokes my rooted D3 and Thrive. I am picky (as some may know) and the Flyer surprised the heck out of me in a good way.

Thanks to the Amazon Fire for forcing prices down, or would have never tried the Flyer out :)

I'm confused. I thought yesterday I read a revision that the phone may or may not come with an as card. I also thought the post said it may have an as slot. The OP says no sd. Do we have an answer to this? It is really important to me as I travel often with no internet or wifi.

No final vote on yes/no. Unofficial final speculation was no.

I beleive Steven's source confirmed there would not be an SD slot today

We don't know, there've been conflicting claims. But I'll be astonished if they can't be made to auto-hide using some kind of tweaker, esp. after the ROM folks get their hands on it.

You may well be right, but a previous poster said that the capacitive buttons on some phones are treated the same as software buttons under the hood.

as far as camera goes. All i care about is if it is AS good or better than the gsII because IMO that camera rules.

I've been reminded by my dear friends on this forum that it's not the Mpx size that matters but the sensor quality. HOWEVER the crappy pictures I saw earlier today supposedly taken by the N__ P__ just reinforce that 5 Mpx still doesn't make up for better sensor, as they were only marginally better than the pics I get from my OG.
