Eris to v2.x, when?

I think Sense is cool, but there are times I could do running just raw Android. To me, it seems like running Windows in Classic mode as compared to the fancier but buggy, Vista theme.

I read somewhere that Sense and 1.5 "don't agree" or something and that they sometimes clash. How? I don't know, but I think it was on this forum that I read it.

The snag is that VZ will be releasing the Motorola Devour soon, which will ship with 1.6...

First quater is already a quater done :P

Here's a new photo of an HTC Incredible running Android 2.1 with Sense UI...

Sense UI and 2.1 doesn't look any different than Sense UI and 1.5. Of course we will get turn by turn in maps, and be able to use 2.1 apps (Goggles, etc), but no live wallpaper, no new app drawer (like the N1).

That being said...I WANT MY 2.1 ERIS NOW!!!

Thanks for that info, Jason. It has a ring of common sense to it, especially the part about if 2.1 is not ready they'll release what they do have developed by the end of the quarter.

As far as the Super Bowl this evening; I don't live anywhere near either team, but I've been a Colts fan since their Baltimore days (I'm very, VERY old ;)) and hope they trounce the Aints for all 60 minutes of playing time.

Colts - 38

Aints - 3

Boy were you dreamin! So glad to see Peyton Manning lose!

If we get Sense with 2.1 then yes you will have live wallpapers. You will have everything 2.1 does plus Sense. Just like you can disable Sense right now and enjoy 1.5 you will be able to disable Sense and enjoy 2.1. I personally hope that 2.x comes before root so that I don't have to bother switching back when it does get released.

I personally think that they will add new things to Sense but will leave it over all untouched to retain the look, feel, and functionality of it. If they changed it it wouldn't be Sense anymore it would be something else. It will be interesting to see what they can add to Sense to really make the 2.1 experience better. They have really refined Android and I think it is becoming a "man" so to speak. We are enjoying the preteen years of Android and we should all be in for a better experience with 2.1 and Sense. Thats my 2 Sense hope it comes about.

Edit: it looks like the Android 2.x we get will be up to HTC seeing as Motorola is disabling some features in 2.1 for the Droid. I can't see how they can still call it 2.1 if it is missing some key features. Boo!

If the leaked screenshots and rumors concerning the HTC Incredable are true, then HTC has already completed Sense for android 2.1. We shouldn't have to wait too much longer for testing to complete and an OTA update. I still have a feeling certain aspects of 2.1 designed to showcase the hardware that the nexus one and incredable contain will be limited for the Eris. Like I said before, I really hope I'm wrong but I just doubt the Eris CPU has the horsepower to provide a fluid user experience along with the additional eye candy.

That's ok, rub it in, I can take it, you so-and-so. :D

As I posted in another thread, congratulations to Saints fans. Good job done on the field. I hear the celebrations have not stopped in N.O. as of now.

The Eris has a Qualcomm MSM7600 CPU clocked at 528MHz (unless the OS determines otherwise) and has an ARM1136EJ-S core using ARMv6 instruction sets

The snapdragon is far above and beyond the MSM7600 in the Eris. If animated wallpaper is considered too much for the Droid's OMAP3430 (similar GPU, PowerVR SGX530 vs. ATI Imageon Z430, and same CPU instruction set, cortex A8, as the snapdragon but slightly different architecture, OMAP uses ARM reference architecture vs. qualcomm in house designed scorpion architecture, and clocked higher), then no way in hell will the Eris get the it.

I think that determination would probably been made by now. (If the Eris can run 2.1) 2.1 code is alot cleaner than 1.5, although I do believe they will have to nix the animated backgrounds. The incredible having Sense is a good sign, as they now have it working (but how well is unknown). Sprint has given the most definitive answer with the Hero (a 100% assurance), I would expect the Eris update right around then.

For anyone that hasn't seen this... Maybe we'll get it soon! =D

Exclusive HTC Incredible Photos (Update: Video)

"We were just handed some leaked photos of the upcoming Verizon HTC Incredible. The device is running on Android 2.1 with HTC Sense, and as our tipster confirms, it's running with a Snapdragon CPU (and is described as "fast, really fast") with 256MB of RAM, and has a 3.5-3.7" WVGA screen. He also described the screen as being "very vibrant" and thinks that it may be AMOLED. The Incredible features an optical mouse pointer towards the bottom of the device. On the back, it packs dual LED flashes. We'll post more info as we get it"

Yeah, but don't you think 2.1 is a selling point for the Incredible? Other than 2.1, it doesn't have that much more memory than the Eris, and chances are it'll be $150 phone, almost double what the Eris costs now.

I don't think we'll see it until some time after this phone is released. If we really do get this update in Q1, then it may mean that this phone is coming out soon, or that this phone comes out in March and 2.1 gets pushed back.

Anyone else notice that the Earpiece on the Incredible is fading away just like on our Eris' ?

HTC must use some bad paint on the ear pieces for sure.

The lack of RAM is really the only down side to this phone. Considering the leap forward gained with the QSD8650 over the MSM7600, the half inch larger screen, 800x480 vs 480x320 resolution, AMOLED vs LCD screen, and dual LED flash vs no flash, I would gladly take it over an Eris. I'm curious how the optical trackpad would feel since I've become accustomed to the trackball. I would think it would last longer since there are no mechanical parts to degrade and possibly become clogged with dirt and oil from use.
