Root The Ups and Downs of ROM Development

Developing ROMs has it's ups and downs... some of the ups being the knowledge you gain during the process of becoming a dev, the people you get to work with and the communities that you become a part of. Unfortunately I got a serious taste of the downs yesterday when I completely bricked my Ally attempting some new things in the ROM I had just cooked. It was so bad that even the unbrick guide could do nothing for me, the phone is dead and gone now. RIP.

Now here is my problem, I can claim my insurance on the Ally ($100)... or I can buy a refurbished/used phone online somewhere. Obviously I would love to continue to work on StormDroid, OverStocked and any other ROMs for the Ally but I might move on to another device until I can get my hands on a cheap used Ally (or just cough up $100 for one from Asurion).

INM has taken it upon himself to start a donation thread for anyone wishing to donate to the cause, for which I am extremely thankful and humbled, lol. So if you would like to lend a hand, feel free to visit the thread and click away :)

I will still stay around and be doing themes/tweaks/optimizations even without an Ally so look forward to more of my work in upcoming projects... but as of right now development on OverStocked is being halted until I get a new phone or I pass the project on to someone else, sorry :(

HOWEVER!

As an added bonus for reading down this far: OverStocked Alpha 4.5.2 (WORKING) for your flashing pleasure ;)

I would be more than happy to donate but my ally is a backup for myself if my Droid 2 gets shot but once I upgrade in April I would love to... lol

Good news and bad news:

Good news: Ordered a new phone, should be here Wednesday

Bad news: It's not an Ally... upgrading to a Samsung Fascinate

BUT don't worry! I am still buying or having an Ally donated so I can continue work on StormDroid, OverStocked and Bionic :)

Oh my.... Remicks, I feel SOOOO sorry for you. Might as well have been a downgrade. A Fascinate? Really? Ick. Did it ever get froyo yet?

Fascinate has GB and CM7/MIUI/TMS Pool Party and OC kernels up to 1.7Ghz :D

And I have an Ally on the way :)

(But no more Fascinate...)

Decided against it? The Fascinate has been great for my use. More internal space for apps is a big plus for me, too. I never did get games to run well on my Ally, even with overclocking, but everything's smooth sailing on my Fascinate.

It wasn't the phone that made me cancel the order, but outside circumstances. I really like the Fascinate as a phone, it seems very solid and well made.

edit: LOL @ posting from ROM account :(
