***Official Galaxy Nexus Pre-Release speculation thread**

Also, I think it is kind of cute that Motorola( sale to Google by end of year ) is going to use the RAZR name in the hopes of getting more sales from a known brand. However, most of the young people buying new smartphones have never heard of a RAZR, although, during its time it was kind of revolutionary. I am not sure that Motorola is getting it, ala the Motorola Doom and Doom2. Probably why it was sold. The main reason why Google bought it was to get the patents and be protected from lawsuits by the fruit firm. i wouldn't be surprised if they folded Motorola after a few years and just had Google branded phones made by Samsung.

Does anyone else feel strangely a little disappointed in all the attention this phone is getting? I owned the nexus one and currently have a nexus s, and something I loved about both phones was the fact they were great phones that noone else had. As nexus devices get more coverage and go more mainstream I wonder if nexus will become the new iPhone at which point I'll have the same phone as everyone else, which for me is undesirable. Feel free to flame, I know this is a stupid thought process, just thought maybe I'm not alone in my stupidity.

Writing this from my OG Droid that is still barely kickin' lol. Even clocked at 1.1GHz running SS 5.5 haha. But I see what you mean and this is how I would feel about it. Sure, everyone could have the same phone, say the Googorola DROID Nexus 5, but my home screen, widgets, launcher, etc will look different than everyones because its specified strictly for my taste. Whereas the iPhones all look the exact same with maybe a different wallpaper.

I understand where you are coming from. Having something unique that you can kind of call your own can be pretty cool. I remember liking a lot of bands that nobody had ever heard of, Nine Inch Nails comes to mind. Then one day a song of theirs went into heavy rotation on the radio and suddenly everyone else was listening to them and their tshirts and bumper stickers were all over the place. The special connection was more or less lost at that point. While I still enjoyed their music seeing the NIN stickers on every other car made mine less unique and a lot less special.

On the other hand, having something that is more mainstream and popular has its advantages too. If the Nexus actually did become the new iPhone then support for the device from accessory companies would skyrocket and we may actually get to see even better apps hit the market. In the end we could see more stability and a better quality product come out due to such an event.

All in all, the only thing that really ever matters is whether or not you are happy with your phone. If you are then it doesn't really matter what several million other people have or use.

To piggy back the other posters. I think the Nexus will never be close to the iPhone in sales. Not a chance! But, we on Verizon have never had the chance to try one. The OG Droid was (I guess) the "developer" phone for Eclair, but since then, nothing else. A lot of us are flashaholics in that we have to switch ROMs everyday :D
I can't wait for another phone on VZW to get the attention of Devs as the OG did.

Just to be clear, when I talk about nexus being the new iPhone, I have no expectation of this particular nexus taking that role, but that over time, this could happen. People are getting tired of skins, and I think more and more people will be looking for the experience that google intended.

Wake UP!! Just because its Sunday, you are not allowed to sleep in, even though there is no news. We have to have totally frayed nerves and sleep deprivation prior to the unveiling.

Hmmm any rumors about a new delay ? As I see Samsung must have.trouble again with apple at least on EU soil. Thet removed the Note from the German site with the price they gave for retail selling. So I was wondering if again apple was suing. And forced samsung to remove some apps from the phone. No announce nothing. But at least for me it looks suspicious. To have it on official site as a new phone that is cooming the next weeks and then few days before it hits the market it gets complete removed. GG. At end I will end buying GS2 normal one. I post this here because I think it has something to do witth the Prime. Ohh forgot GALAXY nexus

I hadn't seen this yet so thought I would share...

Nexus Prime Android 4.0 - YouTube

Is it Tuesday yet?! :-D

this device looks a little bit different compared to the previously leaked Galaxy Nexus-video [the romanian one]...

its not so curved at the top... here's a little proof i made:

Ah, I just had to register... been watching this thread since on week.

I also just found those two videos independently from this thread 30min ago :D

Whats makes me sad is that there seems to be no overscroll effect anymore :(

I hope this will be in the final version... [Edit 3: I watched it again, and saw there is an overscroll effect in the app launcher. But there seems to be none in the multitasking menu or the market app.]

I also wonder if you will have to scroll sideways to scroll through the apps (older video) or down (these new videos) in the final build.

maybe you can customize it, like you can in many Launchers...

so you can change the way of scrolling in the phone-settings... ;)

That would be nice indeed.

By the way, the second picture of your second to last post doesn't load!
If you screencapped the whole phone and the angle is not too bad, I (or someone else) could estimate the overall dimensions of the phone.

Like this for the "old"(?) picture: http://xeve.de/down/nexus-prime-edited.jpg

Announcement

As noted on Google+ our fearless leader (and site owner), Rob Jackson, had his passport overnighted to him, has ticket, and shined up, Hong Kong bound to cover the event and report back via Phandroid.com - way to go Rob!

I propose we get a list of specific questions in order and your friendly mod staff will pass that on to our Phandroid overseer.

From outside this thread, I think two good ones are word of availability for the UK and Canada.

From the thread, I have some ideas, but want to hear it from you.

No guarantees, but this is your best shot at getting YOUR answer, hot and accurate, straight from the big HK.

Speak up, muchachas and muchachos!

"Is the verizon-version also the GSM-version?" [i think its not]
"Are the gsm-version's specs equal to the CDMA-version's ?"
"Is the world-version LTE capable?"
"Release of the world-version [e.g. in germany? :D]?"
"How about the exynos 4212? :D"
"How about the OMAP 4470?"
"How about the battery?"
"no microSD-Card-Slot?"
"Price for the world version (in €, e.g. for germany :p)?"
"SuperAmoled (Pentile) or SuperAmoled+ (RGB-Stripes)?"
"5MP or 8MP Camera?"
"Photo Quality? Video Quality?"
"Are there gonna be different world-versions as it was with the Nexus S? [sAmoled -> SLCD]"

Why do I ask questions, that will be answered on tuesday anyway? :p

ahhhh yes...I remember this as well and the disappointment felt when they became "popular" The same went for Korn, Limp Bizkit, and Kid Rock and a lot of other GREAT no name bands that suddenly became bands everyone started listening too....Wait there's a connection here...they're GREAT bands...then they became popular ;):D

won't we get the majority of those questions answered by the event itself? lol. i won't really have any questions until i find out what they haven't answered

I may as well post my questions here for the vetting of my colleagues:

  1. Will the Nexus come with dedicated car & desk docks?
  2. Will it be subsidized on Verizon?
  3. How fast can it take photos?
  4. How many home screens are available?

Thanks EarlyMon and thanks ROB for going to Hong Kong just for us! I wish I could go with you (haven't been there in many years)... and I also wish I could regale my esteemed fellow Gnexers with some fine Navy Hong Kong stories. But I think I would be severely chastened for them so I'd better not :p

There isn't a single soul over 10 in the developed world that hasn't heard of the RAZR. After all, it was only two or three years ago that they finally stopped selling it. I'm one of those young smartphone buyers and I had a razr at 16 6 years ago.

Yeah, I don't want the same Ferrari that everyone else in my neighborhood has. ;)

There are fates worse than having Nexus becoming ubiquitous. At least you'll be able to customize it to your heart's content!

I felt a little like that when Santana's Supernatural album came out. It was a fantastic album, but all the kids thought Santana was some hip-hop session musician and I'm thinking wait what about his classic original Santana and Abraxas albums?

So OTD, uh, how'd the date go? :D
