***Official Galaxy Nexus Pre-Release speculation thread**

Regarding the new Motorola phone. Ours has already told us that the battery life is a bit better. We also know however that the features of the prime far outweigh the features of the Motorola phone.

This is a ready information we were given.

The experience of the prime far outweighs the experience of having a Motorola. As I understand if the Motorola phone is progress. The Samsung phone is next generation.

What "features" is he referring to? How many are hardware? Time will fix the software ones. NFC is the only thing I can think of that is a huge difference feature wise and there is rumor the RAZR may also have that. Other than the screen size my only other real hesitation with the Moto is the camera.

Steven I thank you for talking about your gift certificate to the mall. It reminded me I have one to Best Buy and then I remembered about my reward zone certificates I have earned. Like most on here I think I spend too much money at that store. I can't wait to get this phone and it will be even cheaper then what I thought!

Don't know about you but i'll be having my buttons off to get the full screen more than having them on. I hardly go into app tray since my most used icons are on the homescreen.

If the leak is accurate on whether we can actually control the software buttons' visibility, then yeah I definitely agree with you. My main point is that there's room for hardware buttons if they so chose, and I don't personally see software buttons as progress.

Just my opinion of course, I'll take the Nexus with it's 720p goodness even if the software buttons are at the top. Ok, maybe not, but still ;)

IT IS a Samsung AMOLED+(not pentile) qHD display as far as the rumors go(say it's samsung because if it is AMOLED as the rumors state it HAS to be and the Pentile LCD's they have been using are a Samsung deal also). Only real display short coming is the smaller size. Bootloader is a big question mark, but Moto promised a solution to this by years end. I think there are also rumors this and the vigor could be some of the first phones NOT launching with ICS that will get the update to it.

I personally just have to see the 4.65" screen next to this one to really have an easy time deciding. Pretty sure ICS will be a given once it's in the AOSP for any of these new phones and I am not too impatient about having that.

Do you have any link that says Razr got non-pentile qHD SAMOLED+? All rumors I saw say just qHD SAMOLED. As far as I know SAMOLED+ is still WVGA and any higher resolution SAMOLED+ has yet to come.

ok, i know im new here but after reading this i have a point that i believe has some merit regarding this...

does it concern anyone else that a moto device assumed to be running GB and a moto skin with bloat can have a bit better battery life than the nexus with a vanilla ICS?? it would seem to me that battery life is one of the top 3 things most of us use to help decide which phone to buy, and if it turns out that the bootloader is unlocked where a vanilla ICS can easily be ported over to the razr, the battery life would improve even more over the nexus and it may be worth consideration

The Moto has a non-removable battery though and even if it is setup to put an extended cell in that fancy back cover is going to go from awesome to horrid for the extended battery version. Although that cover doesn't look simple to take off so I am starting to think the battery is more permanent that I thought from early leaks that showed the cover off with the battery with screwed in connector.

My biggest concern with ICS is that I haven't seen the search button in any of the screen caps. I use that very often with apps.

That's the bestlooking Motorola phone ever. Can it beat the Galaxy Nexus though? Nope. It comes up short.

No Ice Cream Sandwich
It has physical buttons
It doesn't look any thinner than the GNex, to me.
It doesn't have a Samsung screen, and doesn't have 720p resolution
(I think I covered most of it's shortcomings)

Exactly why I would stick with the GNex. Mainly for ICS. Now if it came with ICS, I would have to think for a second.

Well that seemed to take a nasty turn. I'm still definitely interested in the Nexus, I was just defending my position about software buttons versus hardware buttons. Which is actually more a point being made about ICS, not really the Nexus.

I'm not saying anything bad about hardware buttons. However, Android is the operating system that we all use. If Google, who is in control of Android, is moving away from hardware buttons and their newest developer phone is going to be buttonless, then it makes sense that if you want to be on the cutting edge, you want to buy the phone that is being used as the canvas for the next version of Android. That's all I'm saying. I'm fine with hardware buttons, they just aren't the future of Android as made obvious by Android 4.0 itself. Sure, Ice Cream Sandwich will work on hardware button'd phones. There will just be some new options and advantages that non-hardware button phones will be able to take advantage of. If I can own the cutting edge hardware, for my next purchase, to run Ice Cream Sandwich on in the future...well, it's a no brainer that I would want to, and I will.

I am not sure there are any good leaks of that, but Howardforum insiders and a guy that knows an insider and gets to check the phones out have basically said Moto is done with pentile atleast at qHD resolutions. The new Atrix 2 seems to give credence to this also as it is not qHD. I would say there is a chance that this RAZR is in fact just a non-pentile qHD as I am not sure how credible the SAMOLED leak was. I am pretty certain it is not pentile though, or if it is it looks WAY better than any previous moto pentiles per the guy on howard that has played with the RAZR.

BTW, this dude returned his Bionic after messing with the RAZR based a lot on the screen after he was somewhat let down by the Bionic screen.

What if ICS update is promised by year end and/or it comes with unlocked or unlockable boot loader as Moto has been promising by years end?

But Atrix 2 is not using SAMOLED I think. The reason I doubt non-pentile in Razar is that it's using SAMOLED. Maybe those SAMOLED in Razr rumors were false and it's got non-pentile LCD like Atrix 2. I guess time will tell soon.

That's a leap. Moto is promising to unlock bootloaders "where carriers permit". What about Verizon's history makes you think they'd ever permit that??

But, if it did, the Galnexusaurus will still have the 720p advantage. That's too big of an advantage, in my mind.

Motorola seems to be going a bit backwards in their "progress".

Whoaaaa, is that known? That's one of my very few showstoppers.

Based on nothing more than intuition, I'd be astonished if RAZR had qHD PenTile. I can see having it on entry level phones for some time longer, but definitely not on a high end phone in the Age of Nexus (AoN).

so uhm.. how about a live-chat for all of us?

maybe I'll watch the UNpacked Event live though it's 4:00 am here in germany... (don't know for sure, yet)... but a livechat would be nice, so we could 'talk' without spamming this threads...

Seems like it would make the most sense if they made it with the same screen as the Atrix 2

Just a bit of push back on that theory. I was an early adopter of the Xoom. It was a huge waste of money for me. I lost $200 on it once I sold it on Ebay and bought my 64B iPad 2 (begrudgingly I might add). I was an early adopter of my Dinc and LOVED it. However, it was not "new" technology, it was polished technology with its own problems, but nothing that was unbearable. In fact, it was amazing.

The same was NOT true with the Xoom. The thing was buggy from the word go. I bought it on launch day. Onlyl about 7 apps were designed for it. Truly worthless. The promise of 4G is only NOW (8 months later) being fulfilled. While being cutting edge is sometimes nice, that blade often cuts both ways. I truly hope the Prime will not be the same experience as the Xoom, but truly who knows?

Personally, I think for all you've done for us letting things slip out from your love tunnel, I think the forum owes you the remainder $150 balance on your new phone.

Should we start a poll? How many people are willing to chip in a $1 for Steven's love tunnel sharing?

That's legal in Jersey right?

Let us agree to never repeat that phrase, ok? :p

PS making the chart now

Quakerbridge. they have a small kiosk here.

Ugh.. Route 1 :shudders: I work in Northeast Princeton, but live in southern NJ so I drive by the Rt 1 exit on 295 every morning. I don't know how people deal with that road every day.

You know Samsung has offices in northern NJ where they do have some programmers working on their phones. You could go bother them there. ;)

I agree with you on many counts. The saving grace of the prime will be that it's a phone/handset. The market is well established and people have an idea of what does and does not work. Tablets are a different story. The ipad/2 is a great device, but limited in it's abilities, and Google/Android hasn't really figured out what to do with tablets yet, which is why the Xoom was less than a success. I'm hopeful they've looked at all the good stuff about Apple/iOS (polished OS, efficiency) and then added their own abilities to give us a UI that is just as polished but more capable, along with throwing some stuff in that most of us haven't even considered.

There is a SAMOLED+ panel at 1280x800 resolution but that's for the Galaxy Tab 7.7 (the first tablet I really want). Of course that panel is too big for phones. I do seriously doubt a SAMOLED+ panel for RAZR. It won't be until they start using Laser-Induced Thermal Imaging (LITI) that we'll see high pixel density SAMOLED+ screens. LITI is slated to be used starting in Q2 2012.

I see your point. However, this isn't the first new form factor in Android tablet technology. This is the next Nexus device. The hardware on which Android will be developed for the next year or so. There is no comparison. This is Nexus, that was a tablet. HUGE difference.

I was totally thinking the same thing. I see they have a live chat page here, but have never used it. Anyone?

That is a big IF. Regardless, I would rather have stock ICS on a device that was optimized to run it rather than get it as an upgrade later. Also, I am in the camp that likes the thought of non-hardware buttons. It's cutting edge and the future of Android...I like that.

Never been into to rooting my phone, but I'm certainly open to it. Can anyone point me to a rooting 101 thread that goes over the basics?

EXACTLY. The other saving grace for it is that it has the word Nexus on it. That makes it number one priority for Google.
