Root argggghhhh :( - ClockworkMod issues

Hello there guys

Rooted my phone with unrevoked 3 or whatever its called lol.

Have clockworkmod recovery.

Downloaded cyanogen mod newest version and then tried an old version and the same error happens every time :(, it says cant read E:, error in file and it starts installing then states more errors saying the files have errors and it cant find them and then it says installation aborted :@.

So i have a unrooted desire and i cant flash a rom to it, if it helps the root page says S ON, i hear this isent good, however my mate has the same phone with cyanogen and his says S ON and he had no problems?

Help me in the easiest simplest way please

Read our rooting with unrevoked guide. If you have a PVT 4 device, you need to check your erase size.

All in the guide anyway. You can get it via my signature

when i try to find the erase size it cant find it, it doesent give me a number, it is pvt4

Maybe something wrong in ur commands. U should try something like this.

$ cat /proc/mtd
You will get this

dev: size erasesize name
mtd0: 000a0000 00020000 "misc"
mtd1: 00480000 00020000 "recovery"
mtd2: 00300000 00020000 "boot"
mtd3: 09600000 00020000 "system"
mtd4: 00500000 00020000 "cache"
mtd5: 11aa0000 00020000 "userdata"
$

Sometimes it doesn't return anything. This is usually on 40,000 devices. Probably best to go for amonra 2.0.1 because I bet its 40,000

Done it, erase size is 40000

Does clockwork mod not work on 40000?, whats the easiest way to flash amonra

Not CWM 2.5.0.7 which comes with Unrevoked (The best CWM IMHO).

Fastboot flash. See adb and fastboot FAQ in my signature. Skip the adb stuff as its irrelevant.

do you mean newer? If so, yes you can but 1) Newer CWM's are unstable IMHO 2) We dont like you using rom manager.

no older since the newer ones dont support a 40,000 erase size?

ive seen the sticky on rom manager, my mate has used it on his phone with no problems?

You need to s-off

Could i just start the rooting process again with amonra? Only thing is unrevoked doesent pick up my phone when i plug it in (usb debug is on and ive tried charge only and disk drive)

Listen to what SU says, man knows what he's talking about.

Actual S-OFF isn't difficult, but has risks so make sure you read and understand them if you're going to do it. Can't see how you can avoid it though, and re-running Unrevoked's a bit hit and miss.

I'd warn your mate about ROM Manager if he's also got a desire - up to him what he does with the knowledge

How are you going to do that when:

?????

Besides, S-off is easier and quicker than unrevoked.

Just do what you want, I've told you what you need to do.

right i tried s off with alpharev, it finds the device then says its not recognized, other errors that pop up first said something like... cant open cat/cmdline file not found

what the hell now?
