***Official Galaxy Nexus Pre-Release speculation thread**

Including sd slot is nice but built-in battery in Razr is kind of bummer to me. I hope Nexus has removable battery as most recent rumored spec.

Let me sort of veer into another topic. Since the processor topic is being beat to death :) Locked bootloaders....

Does anyone think the bootloader will be unlocked if the Nexus hits Verizon?

That's a big question. I think it will be unlocked, but if ICS is all it's cracked up to be, I don't know what ROMS anyone would want to put on it right away.

I might be happy enough to stick to the stock experience, if it's as good as I think it will be.

Looks like I'm in the minority, I'm not that bothered if it's 1.2 or 1.5 Ghz, obviously I'd prefer 1.5 but I'm not too bothered about it. I also don't care about megapixels, 5 or 8, I don't care, I do care however about the picture quality.

My main concern is the look of the phone. I want something thin, light and with a big screen, much like the teaser video. If we get that iPhone 3G looking monstrosity depicted in the Japanese poster leaked today, I might have to give this phone a miss.

Is anyone else concerned about the look of the phone in the poster pic?

It would be foolish for Google to allow that.

Google is not a foolish company.

Verizon doesn't have enough clout to step on them hard enough to accomplish something like that. The Nexus line is Google's developer phone, the whole point is to encourage and push the boundaries of what the phone can do. A locked bootloader is counterproductive and wrecks the entire point of the Nexus line. I almost guarantee that Google would have walked away from Verizon as a provider before they would allow the phone to be locked down.

I'd lay good money on the bootloader being unlocked.

I highly doubt Google would allow a Nexus device - which is supposed to be a developer device - to have a locked bootloader. If it does have one, it will be easily unlocked.

I imagine this could have been one of the areas of contention between Google/Samsung and Verizon.

I agree to a point, but there is always someone out there who wants to customize it their own way. I think if ICS is what it's cracked up to be, then it won't really have anything removed, but I can see a few custom ROM's claiming to add to it. All in all though, I just expect it will be unlocked because Google has guranteed that it would release the code, and this is the "Nexus" line, which is meant to be open from the begining.

the glbenchmarks are purely based on gpu performance, and we all already know the gnex is rockin' the SGX540 OC'd to 384 mhz. There is no way it is going to keep up with the mali 400 in the SGS2 and sure as heck not going to keep up with the PowerVR SGX543MP2 in the 4s. I thought this was all already known? NOT A GAMING DEVICE. I want to see some browser benchmarks though!

Very possible but if it is indeed locked and unlockable does that mean that we void our warrenties by unlocking it, like HTC's unlockable method?

You'll probably be able to hit 1.5GHz, but TI won't guarantee anything beyond X GHz for a device advertised as X GHz.

We had a knowledgeable poster earlier who seemed pretty sure that CPU and GPU are not independently clocked on the 44x0. If true, then they'd all overclock together. That would imply the upper limit is determined by whichever component (CPU or GPU) hits its limit first.

Time doesn't stop just because a product is released late. Bionic owners may be disappointed right now, but nobody forced them to buy Bionic at the time, and they would've been naive to think there weren't lots of better and faster phones just around the corner.

All phones have a screen door effect, it's just more noticeable w/PenTile at a given resolution. Bionic is superbright because it has RGBW PenTile w/white pixels. Nexus will most likely come w/RGBG PenTile w/extra green pixels, brightness unknown.

It's more than an overclocked 4430. Here are the OMAP4430 and OMAP4460 tech ref manuals. Enjoy!

I realize that time doesn't stop because of that. Verizon hyped the Bionic to no end making it sound like a Messiah, then a few weeks later out of nowhere...BAM! Right in the kisser!.

Good advertising and promotion for the Bionic, maybe. Will this leave a bitter taste in some Bionic owners mouths? I would say no if they would have had an idea something better was coming down the pike.

Besides the Charge and the Thunderbolt don't have locked bootloaders. Right?

Please excuse me for bringing up something that may have been covered somewhere in the previous 11K+ posts...but have we conclusively determined what the three holes on the side of the GNex actually are? Is it a docking port of some sort? If, yes, docking to what?

I was just day dreaming during my lunch hour and thought how cool it would be if the GNex docked to a tablet-like display, thus giving you the ability to transform your phone to a tablet. Phone + Tablet = Better Together. That sure would be a game changer.

Hey ...I have an idea.

For those of us that were in the DInc forum when it was new, there were a lot of posts about batteries, testing the batteries, true capacity, etc. Even in the Thunderbolt forum. Because I have done research in a MatSci lab specializing in enhance Li-Ion battery cathode and anode crystal structures, I tried to correct a lot of the popular rumors that were going around and whatnot, but there was never any real tests done.

So, I propose the following:

If you want, you follow a simple set of instructions for the first charge. There will be two sets, one for instant use and one for full charge while off then regular use. There are apps in the market which analyze battery current, so if you use that and post the file it creates, I can anaylize it (a basic MatLab script will do) and we can have a real test of our battery and if there is a statistically significant difference between the two initial charging methods.

So...any takers? Good idea? Too much work?

A new leak from the smartphone market suggests that Samsung's Nexus Prime is expected to release on Oct 19, for a minimum price of $299.99, nearly a week after it was supposed to launch.

I should have stopped reading right there. We've been talking about Oct. 27, Nov. 3, and Nov. 10 launch dates, and now they're saying Oct. 19 and that it was supposed to come out a week ago? Uhhh...But, let's carry on a bit...

There is, then, a possibility that the new leaked image of Samsung's "unconfirmed" forthcoming smartphone is that of the Galaxy S3 and not the anticipated Nexus Prime with the fictitious Ice Cream Sandwich.

No, this is just some twit looking to create controversy and generate page hits. The ICS statue is at Google, and Larry Page himself said he was excited about ICS. There's nothing fictitious about ICS.

Well, Bionic owners DID get to "rule all machines"... for a few weeks :p

Cheers to all those fine folks who insisted back in August that Bionic was THE phone to get, and that Nexus was nothing but vaporware! I wonder how many of them will be tuned in to the live stream tonight and beating their heads on their desks?

See you guys online tonight!

uhm... sry but it was said to be the winner in the CTIA Category "GAMING AND ENTERTAINMENT ENTHUSIAST"... so of cour'se we were expecting the Nexus Prime/ Galaxy Nexus to be a gaming device... :p

...it's being touted as a Gaming and Entertainment handset

All these benchmarks are bunk at this point. To spend any more than 3 minutes talking about them is 3 minutes too long.

Nobody even knows what build number and what version of hardware it was bench marked on. If i was a betting man I'd say those benchmarks are just smoke and mirrors. The actual device will bench quite impressively, as in better than the SGSII

I certainly didn't say I believed any of it, but since this is the Rumors and Speculations thread, it was worth posting. There is a Reader Beware clause on page one, so I assume people have read that.

I'm in ill submit my data

The DX bootloader is locked yet it has ROMs. Locking doesn't seem to be much of a barrier. Rooting seems far more important to most users.

To be blunt, I suspect a lot of people see a locked bootloader as bad without it ever affecting them, but they make a statement like, "RAZR has a locked bootloader, pass!", without understanding why. I'm not suggesting you are doing that Steven, which is why I'm asking, what is the advantage?

I know that I don't know and I want to know!
