***Official Galaxy Nexus Pre-Release speculation thread**

Anything that I post in here, I post purely in the spirit of the name of the thread. Speculations and Rumors thread. I don't believe any of it, but if I haven't seen it posted, I will. It's not up to me to decide what people looking for rumors choose to believe, but if they come here looking for them, they should have the most comprehensive collection, IMHO.

Oh, ok! I like that.

I also heard, guys, that the holes on the side are actually a 3D hologram projector. Seriously. I know you don't believe me on the face value, which is fine, so I'm providing the link.

Read it. It's very interesting. The tech is in it's infancy, of course, but it looks very promising.

...it's being touted as a Gaming and Entertainment handset

All these benchmarks are bunk at this point. To spend any more than 3 minutes talking about them is 3 minutes too long.

Nobody even knows what build number and what version of hardware it was bench marked on. If i was a betting man I'd say those benchmarks are just smoke and mirrors. The actual device will bench quite impressively, as in better than the SGSII
uhm... sry but it was said to be the winner in the CTIA Category "GAMING AND ENTERTAINMENT ENTHUSIAST"... so of cour'se we were expecting the Nexus Prime/ Galaxy Nexus to be a gaming device... :p
it probably got nominated because of the screen. Like xtop said. If you expect it to perform better than the galaxy s2 in glbenchmarks (or any gpu benchmark for that matter) you are going to be sorely disappointed. it's technically impossible given the *rumored* specs of 4460.

They're definitely for docking of some sort.

The Nexus One has similar pins on the bottom.

I imagine these would be used for car docks, media docks, and, well, perhaps Google is going for greater integration and will use them to dock with GoogleTV and tablets or PCs/laptops.

Mmm that Nexy is still sexy after all this time... always wanted one but never got it!

Google is not a foolish company... unless you consider the failures of Buzz, Page Creator, Notebook, Jaiku, Dodgeball, Audio Ads, Wiki Search, Wave, Answers, Video Player, Web Accelerator, Catalog, and X. Other than those, they have a perfect record! :D

That's only known for a 1.5GHz device. If it's 1.2GHz, then the GPU could possibly be anything down to the 304MHz of the 4430.

Yes! And not w/debug kernel either.

sry but what is the matter with the debug kernel? [sry i'm a total newb in this tech-geek-stuff :p]

A things. I'm sure you've soft bricked your DX at some point. This happened because your Android "system" didn't meet the standards set by Moto so it fails to boot (won't go past the "M"). With other phones, you can still boot into recovery and fix your phone by loading a backup.

Also, I'm sure you are fully away of what it took to bring CM7 to DX. That incredible amount of work done by Cvpcs may not be possible for future locked down phones. All other Roms for the DX were based on Moto's stock Roms (for better or worse).

Generally, Rom devs congregate around devices that are easy to develop for. If you're comfortable running stock (or modified stock firmware) for the lifetime of your phone, then you have no problems (other than Moto's consistent attempts to break root).

Thanks! That's what I was looking for.

I was sent a link earlier about the iPhone doing something similar, but I can't watch it at work. It's blocked by the Proxy, and I don't have the rights to bypass the server. I hate to post a link about the ihone, but it seems appropriate to compare with that article at least.

I guess I should have clicked your link before I posted this, lol.

I also refuted the existence of Elephants until I first went to the zoo (pics of them are too easy to photoshop), and I still have serious reservations about the existence of the countries of Morocco, Singapore, Kazakhstan, Tunisia, and Venezuela, among others. Not to mention the Vatican....

Ever visited Freedonia or Grand Fenwick? Lovely this time of year!

It basically means they were running the benchmarks on a mode where it was trying to find and fix bugs and problems, which means it was slowed way way down.

Also, the firmware (OS version) was probably old and not the optimized version that will be announced tonight.

So it holds no water whatsoever and should be erased from your brain.

It really is. And I must say, I miss the idea of the trackball. My Droid only had the little d-pad in the keyboard, but I've played around with the Nexus One and the DInc, and I loved the trackball/optical trackpad. It made it so much easier to fix typos in text messages by simply rolling over to it, rather than trying to poke the exact right spot or sliding open the keyboard if I wasn't using it at the time.

correct......but I'm leaning towards it releasing with the Exynos.

You bring up a VERY good point about the screen being the reason it's slated to win the Gamer and Entertainment category. Never thought of that. Makes perfect sense.

If it is in fact released with the 4460 I concur, it will not bench that much better BUT it SHOULD bench w/ some better numbers on the final build.

So the bench marks are meaningless at this time

I haven't actually seen that stated anywhere, does anyone have a source? All I've seen is conjecture on this thread and in the comments of some articles.

Charge your phone now and watch it on there!

There's a line of thunderstorms coming through Tennessee and the South tonight, 80% of rain. We need the rain... but if my power goes out during this live stream I'm gonna take my electric razor to my wrists!

Not sure what good it'll do... but I'll have pretty wrists... :p

My favorite feature of the Nexus One trackball is the RGB LED backlighting that it has. Being able to to look at my phone while it's laying on a table and instantly know exactly what type of notifications I have is something I'm going to have a hard time living without at this point.

Edit: So, here's hoping for an RGB LED on the new Nexus...

None of the latest rumored specs have it listed as launching with anything other than the 4460 from what I can tell. I also don't think any of the rumored specs are 100% accurate though. I hope it is the Exynos, but if the rumors are to be believed, it ain't gonna happen.

I am freaking out excited right now! Ah I can't wait! Just a few more hours until the announcement!

Yeah I have been sporting a DInc for quite some time now and love it. However I'm hoping that the GNex screen, at almost an inch larger, will let me be a lot more accurate with cursor placement than the DInc is. I sure notice a difference just going from my 3.7" to my GF's 4" Nexus S.

Maybe once the new Nexus is in my hands, I can sell the DInc and pick up a N1 for cheap, just to complete the trifecta :D

GSMArena has it listed with the Exynos, other than that everyone else is going with the TI.

I'm holding out for the Exynos :)

Looks like I'm in the minority, I'm not that bothered if it's 1.2 or 1.5 Ghz, obviously I'd prefer 1.5 but I'm not too bothered about it. I also don't care about megapixels, 5 or 8, I don't care, I do care however about the picture quality.

My main concern is the look of the phone. I want something thin, light and with a big screen, much like the teaser video. If we get that iPhone 3G looking monstrosity depicted in the Japanese poster leaked today, I might have to give this phone a miss.

Is anyone else concerned about the look of the phone in the poster pic?

This is exactly how I feel. 1.2 vs 1.5?? So what? It's still an OMAP4 running a severely lacking GPU, so I'm already let down in this category anyway. 1.2 vs 1.5 is NOT going to make a difference. The architecture and the GPU is what make the difference and it is already a big FAIL in that department.

I have made peace with the fact that I will be purchasing a device with year old specs since it will not be an Exynos 4212 (as long as the UI experience is smooth)..... but I have not made peace with that hideous looking iphone 3G rip off form factor. Please please please samsung... say it aint so!! The leaked video profile pic is SO much more appealing.

Most likely true. It probably sets a lower bound for things (if a debug phone scores X fps in some benchmark, it'll probably be at least that fast when it ships).

Also, the firmware (OS version) was probably old and not the optimized version that will be announced tonight.

A recent device benchmark would need recent firmware to have any value to the manufacturer, but you're right not to get worked up about pre-release debugging performance results.

I didn't realize they still said Exynos. That would be ideal for us. As much as I hope that's true, I am fearing that the other sites with "rumored" specs are correct. I love how they all say Confirmed Specs though. Nothing is confirmed in my eyes. It may still be named the Galaxy Nexus Prime for all we know.
