Root Question - Rooting

Got it back to stock using that RUU. Couldnt load to hboot but ran it anyway and it worked.

So back to where I started and probably staying that way.... unless unrevoked works without downgrading.

well atleast it was recoverable
those 4 triangles generally mean death

dont worry im not asking you to run anything

haha, very funny.

Yes it boots to Hboot, however, it tries to run the downgrade automatically, but can't find the zip file (as I deleted it as per the guide). I therefore have to choose to not run the "update" and restart normally.

So it's not completely back to normal. :(

odd, what does it say when it tries to run the upgrade?
so there is no update.zip and no pb99img.zip on your sdcard

pb99img.zip is there.

But I'm pretty sure everything it searches for it can't find.
delete the pb99img.zip as that is what is causing the update request

the hboot always does a file check for 2-3 seconds then reverts to normal

pb99img.zip is a rom flashing utility thats why it should be deleted

Gonna try and root again soon. Should I go with revolutionary with official 2.3 or try downgrade to 2.1 again which screwed me up before?

If you are on 2.3 I'd try Revolutionary. I think it's still officially beta but a lot of people have used it and it seems pretty trouble free from the comments I've seen.

Used Revolutionary on mine, which was on 2.3. Went smoothly apart from two mistakes on my part. Had HTC sync on my laptop. Thought the drivers from that would work, but they dont. You need to use the drivers from the Revolutionary website. Also - when you get to the Revolutionary screen on your phone, you use the trackball rather than power to select.

I'm not on 2.3 currently, but if I need to downgrade to 2.1 from my 2.2 then I may as well upgrade first then try, as downgrading to 2.1 almost bricked me last time.

Going to try and do standard revolution from 2.2 first. Hopefully it will work as my 2.2 should be pretty clean and corruption free, it was after all installed only a few months ago during my first root attempt.

Will try next week when wifes at work!!

Hi again.

I am now rooted. I have the superuser.

I have not done anything else yet.

One thing I am a bit worried about and want to know if its possible and if so, can I sort it out:

I'm not sure if I went as Amon-Ra or clockwork on the recovery. I initially loaded Unrevoked up and it defaulted to clockwork, I had my phone connected at the time so had to quickly unconnected, and changed to custom for Amon-Ra.

I then had to restart unrevoked and in my haste forgot to check if it was still custom when unrevoked started. I assumed it would be custom because last time I went through all the hassles it always stayed on custom if I had changed it.

Let's assume it defaulted back to clockwork... would it actually root my phone as it's a Eraze size 40000?

How can I tell what recovery I have? If I installed clockwork, am I correct in thinking it won't work properly because of my erase size? If so, how do I remedy this? Re-run Unrevoked with custom? Flash the RUU and start again?

Thanks for your help.

E
did you flash it..

hit THANKS if helped

Not done it yet. So do I need to be s-off to do it?

What would happen if I RUU my original Rom? Could I start again? Edit - ok, I could start again.

Not sure if I want to flash s off yet. Really scared ill f it up!!

SU will confirm but it sounds like you need to S-OFF using Revolutionary if you're on 2.3, as you need to be able to fastboot flash amon_ra recovery. Shipped S-Off doesn't sound like it will give you access to do this (via extended fastboot commands).

Gaining S-OFF has some risk, but it went smoothly for me using AlphaRev and Revolutionary has worked fine for many on here as well.
