Root Question - Rooting

I can confirm I'm 40000 erase model, I checked that.

Baseband 32.49.00.3211-5.11.05.27
Kernel 2.6.32.15-g2633d94htc-kernal@and18-2#1
Build 2.33.161.2CL2 84385 release-keys
SW 2.33.161.2

Will check I'm using correct unrevoked. I don't have any app explorer on pc and only windows security, which I will disable

Checked unrevoked. Was a newer version. I downloaded 3.2.1 and turned off windows security and still nothing.

Error is "Failed to Push Recovery. Terminating"

failed to push recovery is either because drivers are not installed correctly, debug mode is not enabled, something is stopping the adb.exe process from working (why i mentioned AV but it could also be something like droidexplorer, myphoneexplorer) check if you have adb.exe in your windows task manager under processes when unrevoked is NOT running

alternatively you can see if your device allows extended fastboot commands under ship s-off

use the fastboot guide do get fastboot working
boot to fastboot (back + power)
type
Code:
fastboot flash recovery recovery-RA_2.0.1.img
if it flashes successfull in command prompt
do
Code:
fastboot reboot-bootloader
see if you can boot to amonRA recovery.

if this works flash a rooted rom of choice or flash the superuser package from the revolutionary wiki

I'm sorry but I could not understand this request. I tried to follow the guide and got ADB Shell running but from then on it confused me and I didn't understand how to get fastboot working.

fastboot you do by booting the phone to fastboot (back+power)
you then should be able to do fastboot devices and it should show the device id
then you might be able to use the commands i mentioned above

as long as the pc can see your phone when booted in fastboot (same drivers as adb) then you should be able to run those commands, i believe you are just booted into the wrong section

I don't have any app explorer on my PC. The most my PC ever came near my phone until now was HTC Sync and standard transfering of pictures, etc using USB.

I don't have any AntiVirus software bar Windows Security Essentials and that was turned off.

I could not see any adb.exe running in my processes.

Oh and drivers seem to be installed and debugging on.

:confused::confused::confused:

Are you in the uk?

I looked today and adb.exe is in my processes. Is that good or bad?

I tried running unrevoked and it just hangs on Pushing Recovery and gets nowhere.

Ok, got it almost working. Got all the way to the end then said Validation Error: Backup CID is missing

Anyone know what this means?

that is a nightmare :/

basically this is a misc error, the protections unrevoked put in place check the misc partition while rooting. if there is corruption or it cannot read it for whatever reason it will cancel the rooting procedure. the upside is that unrevoked is now talking to the device correctly

This is detailed in the guide.

in brief you will need to:
create a goldcard (if you dont already have one)
use teppics downgrader to take it to a 2.1 slcd rom
use unrevoked 3.21 while on the 2.1 rom
download a rom of choice and a froyo radio (the froyo radio can be obtained from the link in my sig)
from recovery wipe device, flash rom, flash radio
reboot and wait

Use whatever card you like. Only thing that matters is that it should be in your phone if you ever run an RUU (other than one with your own network's branding, which should work with or without it).

In an unrooted, debranded phone I'd say keep it in the phone in case you ever get an update. But you must never accept an OTA update on a rooted phone, so that's not relevant in this forum.

Right thanks for your reply, im about to try and root and just first trying to get my head around the goldcard. Can I basically go ahead now with rooting without making a goldcard (orange branded phone)

You can root without the goldcard.

It's if anything goes badly wrong and you need an RUU to fix it then without a goldcard you can only use the network-specific RUU or the 2.3.3. upgrade (which then requires a different rooting procedure).

It had many errors, I can't remember them all but I remember it kept saying adb was out of date. I'll do it again soon and report back

Yes I had a goldcard in.

if you are getting adb out of date you have something else running adb in the background :(

Downgrading has resulted in 4 triangles...

Looks like it's same as this

http://androidforums.com/desire-sup...uck-htc-logo-cant-get-fastboot-mode-also.html

Screw this rooting. Looks like I'll have to get it fixed at HTC and I'm not going near this stuff again..

is the device branded?
before sending it back to htc if there maybe an RUU you can use to return it back.
Its rare that these are recoverable but it can work

very unfortunate, i feel bad for you as its rare these types of things occur.

let us know if the device was branded or not and if you remember what sw version it was
