***Official Galaxy Nexus Pre-Release speculation thread**

There are TECHNICALLY two, as AT&T just recently launched theirs. But nowhere near the coverage of Verizon.

Wouldn't make sense to launch on AT&T's early LTE network as they only plan to have 15 cities up on the network by years end. Samsung stated a US release in november.

Hey all,

I'm new to this part of the forum (I'm kind of in love with HTC phones), but I was wondering if you guys knew which service this was coming to (hopefully VZW). I'm really interested in this thing now that I've seen some info on it and I'm trying to decide if I want to try this or the HTC Vigor/Rezound. Any thoughts would be appreciated.

**Also, Nice to see you around Steven, I remember seeing many posts from you when the Incredible was about to be released**

Welcome, eipee!

It's coming exclusively to Verizon for a while, then probably to other carriers later on.

The version they showed on stage last night was the HSPA+ version which is slightly thinner than the LTE version. It was confirmed that the LTE version will be slightly thicker than the version they showed off last night at the event...probably due to the CDMA/LTE radio and the need for a bigger battery due to LTE draining battery life.

I'm hoping since it doesn't look like there is an HDMI out on the Nexus (Unless the usb port also serves as MHL I think MHL is what the GS2 has and it serves as HDMI out) that the pogo plug serves as HDMI out through a dock...but maybe they want you to dock it because then it can be used as a different interface like Google TV maybe (similar to Car dock mode)....there were rumors of ICS combining Tablets, phones and Google TV into one.....that would be really cool if that is how the dock and pogo plugs get implemented...it's all just speculation on my part but I have to believe that connectivity to an HDTV with mirroring would be something they wouldn't want to ignore these days..especially with them pushing Google TV adoption. Maybe they're waiting to announce this with the soon to be released Google Tv 2.0 coming soon....there is supposed to be new hardware for Google TV coming out with the update and ARM being part of it replacing the X86 Intel stuff.

I thought my Galaxy Nexus was going to be so innocent, but from the sounds of it, she has a p1mp by the name of VZW. Being a p1mp it seems VZW wants TOTAL control of my Galaxy Nexus here in the USA. Still have some hope he doesn't keep her as bound as the rest of his girls. My Galaxy Nexus was meant to be FREE! I demand she gets unlocked!

I actually found that coverage to be a little odd. So much about it just shouted, "I hate change." It all seemed to be saying, "this is a great feature! I just don't like it because I liked the old Android." I don't mind criticism, I just don't think that "it's different" is a useful criticism.

Also, complaining about software buttons with the argument that, um, button choice is personal? What? It's not like there's some enormous flexibility in hardware buttons or a huge choice in the market of what buttons you want. There are apps that will override the hardware button functions if that's what he means but how is it logical that the same apps can't override the software buttons? I just don't understand. From the article:

Depending on how this is handled, I think it could diminish one of Android’s most attractive qualities: options, choices, flexibility, and personal preference.

How is there a huge number of options, choices, flexibility or personal preference in fixed buttons? A couple manufacturers change the order of buttons on the phones. Otherwise, you're pretty much stuck and who would choose button order over ANY OTHER FEATURE on a phone? Did you really pick a HTC phone over a Motorola phone because the menu and home buttons were in a different order? At least with the software there could be the option of re-ordering them.

Not everyone wants software buttons. Not everyone wants them in the same place. Not everyone wants them to work the same.

Not everyone wants hardware buttons. Not everyone wants them in the same place. Not everyone wants them to work the same. I simply don't understand why this argument holds any water whatsoever.

As I have said before they will someday do a glitch so u can hide them and rotate with the screen aswell. Think landscape view with the buttom transparent anf on the size of normal view. Just a thought. But till then they just removed a 5$ component or whatever they where cost

Engadget says ICS for Razr Q1,2012......true??

Possible. Google is saying it wants to start rolling out ICS to more devices "weeks" after Nexus goes on sale.

But I can't see Moto and Verizon not wanting to smear their crap all over ICS before RAZR owners see it.

Most likely, the only way razr sees ICS in early 2012 is by generosity from the dev community, and that will take some time given that it's a locked down bootloader. I wouldn't be too hopeful.

Edit: Although with the Google/Motorola acquisition, that may change. Doubtful, but possible (although that deal hasn't been consummated yet.)

Han,

Since this has been announced, have you heard anything from your sister?

Nope, not a thing. She has told me over the phone that people are excited about it, but rumors have been pretty much nonexistent the last few weeks. I haven't talked to her since yesterday, and she's told me not to text her while she's at work, lol, so I don't know what the mood is over there after the unveiling.

All you guys that are complaining about Rob's review should watch the videos. You can really get his tone of voice down and see that he's actually pretty balanced.

I doubt you've watched them because I'm not even done yet, lol.

I think the review is fine. I personally read reviews to get real information that I might not already know, to get the good, the bad and the ugly so I can make an informed decision. What's the point of reading a review if you're just looking to have smoke blown up your ass to make you feel good about something you already like? You might as well buy an iPhone and hang out at BGR all day.

Ahh. Doubting Thomas to the end. I guess I have to admire that about you CK :D.

All I know is every rumor and leak point to VZW, and also that BMX alluded to a Halloween announcement and a 11/3 release in the poems way back. Still lines up pretty well overall, coming from a great trusted source, don't cha think? :)

Add me to the list. After waiting for the Bionic and then passing for the GSII and it not showing up on the big V I will have to see it to believe it.

Anyone wondering what the verizon galaxy nexus will look like? It sounds like they said it's going to be bigger, which seems like it would look completely different. Hmm...

I would really like to (metaphorically) put a gun to someone's head at Verizon and make them explain their insistence re: the bloatware. I understand them putting it on their so people see it, though to me it's no better than junk mail. What I don't understand is not allowing people to remove it. For those who understand (a growing number), it unnecessarily uses system resources. People who don't want to use it are not going to use it just because Verizon won't let them remove it. At best they ignore it and at worst they resent Verizon's insistance and possibly go to another carrier. Where is the upside for Verizon?

Nah, I think it will just be slightly thicker, but same otherwise.

Call me blind but I do not see it.

You're blind. :p

Seriously, I'm concerned about your vision problems. It's in Tron-blue lettering, bottom of the screen, above the small circle. Between seconds 22 and 25.

Are you saying you don't want to use VZ Navigator and pay the fee instead of using free Google Directions?!
