You don't think it will go through internal testing at Verizon first?

I'm sure all internal testing has already gone through. Steven's Love Tunnel said that he had colleagues who tested it along with the RAZR.

Once it's released, it will get direct updates from Google, without Verizon interference.

That alone makes it top dog for a while, don't you think??:)

The questions to ask youself are:

Does this phone meet your needs?
What doesn't this phone do?
Are your needs really needs?
My needs are met with my Droid. I don't even need a new smartphone. My Droid works perfectly and does what I need it to do. Most people here don't NEED a new smartphone UNLESS their current one is on the verge of death or is in the process of dying

My wants on the other hand are a whole different thing :)

This is all about wants not needs :)

The atmosphere was still locked down, therefore risk was increased.

I really would like to know what all is still being negotiated between the three for this VZW release. Very unlikely the details on availability and such couldn't be more forth coming if all systems were go. I still doubt there is anything huge enough to canon ball this thing on VZW, but still have a very strong feeling Google is testing VZW here in some way behind the scenes and that is the reason this wasn't a three company launch from the get go. If'n VZW has a USA exclusive you KNOW they would have liked to be involved in this more extreme initial unveiling of everything.

Is Krait SAMPLING in 1Q2012 or actually being integrated in phones by then?

I don't know. I'm not sure where I'd even begin to find out that information. All I know is they've had the chip in-house for the past 3 months and they have a working test device which they've apparently been demo-ing. A lot of info can be found at the article here and there's even a couple of vids.
AnandTech - Qualcomm's New Snapdragon S4: MSM8960 & Krait Architecture Explored

Come January I'm positive we'll see some Krait devices at CES.

Edit: Oops! According to this link, Qualcomm stated at their Q3 conference call that they've already sampled Krait

While the specs might not be mind blowing to some, they are great for me. Ive been wanting some nexus love ever since the N1, when they had Verizon on their sign up page and it never came to fruition. Now, Im ready to pounce. Bring that sexy beast on VZW.

p.s. sooner rather than later VZW

My last comment. I understand the TiVo deal, you have to "go through" the commercials to get to the next part of the show. That's different than crap that is just sitting on your phone that might be a few out of 30, 40, 50 apps that you browse through.

All I know is that the bloatware and the pigheaded insistance behind it makes me want to pee in someone's Cheerios.

You're missing the point that Verizon is being paid to make sure those apps are present on your phone.

That is quite an assumption :)

It's an assumption based on every piece of Nexus evidence in the past. It's just been announced that Nexus S will be updating to ICS. Will it have Touchwiz on it because it's a Samsung? Nope.

Nexus is Nexus. You don't see iOS 5 being loaded with Vcast, do you?

Good for you! :D

For those rest of us OG Droiders, I think I speak for the majority when I say our Droids ARE on the verge of death or are in the process of dying! I can't take a picture with mine half the time. The half that I can, it takes 10 seconds or more. It reboots on its own. It's getting old and decrepit, which is sad for a phone that's not quite 2 years old.

"D" is so ready to hit the hammock and retire, and I am so ready to let her.

EDIT: Oh! Something else my Droid is good at: voice dialing the wrong person!

Droid: Speak now.
Me: Call magdelaine on mobile.
Droid: Call HanSolo at home. RING!
Me: Noooooooooo!

Sorry if this has been discussed before. (Its getting very hard to keep up to date with this.)

My main concern is tethering, wireless or wired. This is included in stock Gingerbread and it is so much cleaner than using a rooted app or PDAnet. Do you think this is still included in ICS, and if it is do you think VZW will raise the data cost for this phone to reflect it?

Verizon: Wait. We don't get to internally test builds before you push them?

Google: Correct

*Silence......................*

Verizon: You serious?

Google: Yes. Is that a problem?

Verizon: Of course it is. We don't push updates to hardware on our network without extensive testing.

Google: well thats not how we do things with our Nexus handsets.

Verizon: Well that's not how we do things on our network.

Google: You want to step outside and settle this like men?

Verizon: Lets go!!

I've been quietly enjoying the rumors, speculation, banter, and occasional nuggets of information in this forum for the past week or so. I truly loved my (launch day) Dinc, I really like my (launch day) Tbolt (aside from sporadic glitchiness, infrequent random reboots, and all-to-frequent data connectivity losses), but I am majorly (perhapes even coronelly or generally) excited about getting a (launch day, of course) Gnex / Galaxasaurus Nex / Galanexus / large-gravitationally-linked-group-of-stars+concatenation-of-whatevers.

I'm sure it will still be included and I'm sure that it will still cost the same. (less than $1 per day for those of us grandfathered in with a corporate discount, prorated for use. And yes I am gloating :D)

And just so we're clear, that's Verizon's own personal way of branding 4G:

Is there any other carrier currently running 4G service?

It's a lock, people.

see above :)

You forget we are dealing with Verizon here. Thats huge doooooooooood

I'm a little confused by this. I have a granfathered in unlimited data contract as I have been paying for data since the Motorola Q. Arn't the tethering plans just an additional $20 or $29 a month? Less than a dollar a day?

I know where you're coming from, but things change. Who would have ever thought that Verizon would ever allow a Nexus, unlocked, bloat-free phone on their service? But according to a lot of people with good track records (BMX, P3Droid) and others who have been confirmed as real sources by Mods (Steven's Love Tunnel), that's what we're getting.

Times, they are a'changing, CK. At least for a beautiful, short, wonderful while.

There is a lot of assumption going on (with both of us mind you)

I don't think it's fair to say that everything is going to be staus quo with this handset just yet. Verizon is Verizon and history has proven they are VERY controlling.

NFC notes

NFC - near-field communications - is not really new. It's a short-range communication system consisting of an NFC antenna (typically a small loop) connected to a tiny radio and transmitting and receiving as per the governing ISO standards - and then apps communicate with each other thru it.

If you think of it as a kind of tiny-WiFi or mini-Bluetooth, that's exactly close enough to get the full idea.

A few years back, they got added to SD cards and put into a few phones as an add-on - and the apps included were strictly for banking at that time. So - not new.

I expected if they would add it anywhere as we moved forward on phones without it built-in, it would be SD cards (and for all I know, that might yet happen).

In this case - they put it on the battery.

Do other others phones have data paths sufficient to support that on their batteries, if so updated?

With a firmware update on the phone, I honestly don't see what would be stopping it. Your battery charge and temperature readouts already prove to you that some data paths already exist to the battery. I could be wrong on this - but it seems reasonable to me.
