***Official Galaxy Nexus Pre-Release speculation thread**

I was just going on prior experience with the exclusive window for nexus till att got their version it was about 7 months , late december is when original nexus s came out , and the att version didnt come subsidized till late july.

I can assure you that its not going to be 7 months before this puppy hits the streets.

I'm mainly excited for CM9. Its vanilla but with enhancements. Plus then we have theme support if we want to change colors from that beautiful blue.

yeah, i should have mentioned that. i agree that using the theme engine is a rather attractive feature - i much prefer a darker black & white/chrome/metal/linear theme on my phone (or a pure white theme, sometimes - sure do miss that kid (shocka2430) who did the Invertnito theme back in the day!).

Agreed. Even with BGR's track record on predictions, we gotta give it up on this one.

But srsly - go figure, agree.

I only started following this thread after the BGR thing, but LONG before that I had the specs nailed in my head based on the leaks I had seen and which seemed legit. Not just for Nexus either. There was plenty of info out there suggesting that TI was having margin issues preventing OMAP 4460 from hitting 1.5ghz before the end of the year for example.

BTW, the Barometer is the biggest new hardware feature that was pretty much totally missed. A funny one is that I was MOST excited about the 5MP sensor rumor. I KNEW that was true as leaks are usually wishful if not true and only I and other digital camera sensor geeks would consider a MP downgrade an upgraded sensor!

Now to see how the secret negotiations with VZW go well so we can get this sucker finally!

P3 continues...

Now for all of you telling me: But they have a trailer, and a video..Until its announced by VZW, that all means squat. Phones get cancelled

P3Droid
So keep your hate to yourself, I'm just passing the word, hoping to help push the Nexus and Verizon to a conclusion we can all enjoy..

Lol!! Exactly......

People are pretending like nothing is going on. "It cant happen there are videos with 4G LTE on the back of devices" "it said Verizon on the pulldown its happening!"

I am here to tell you its meaningless until you see something official and now you see why. The reason it was taken down is not because verizon wants to keep it under wraps its because its not a done deal.

Wait..........hey jasaero you smell that? What the heck is that? It smells like smoke. Guys ill be right back.................

No matter how many times we explain our case I don't think they can quite compute how a phone could be made from the beginning and even GROUND UP for VZW only to not end up on VZW because of a minor conflict that hurts VZW's ego. And all signs point to a pretty big VZW ego disruption that is only made minor by how HUGE the interest in this phone on and by VZW customers is!

Is Verizon getting the Galaxy Nexus?

This will be the reason for Verizon to pull it.

whew, what a relief!! i was worried that after yesterday's announcement, all the angst and roller coaster of emotions was just going to fade away into a sea of jubilation and optimism...

LTE connectivity would coincide with what kbman said/hinted at over at HoFo - that the Prime itself (and not Sammy/Google/VZW) was "having issues". maybe he was right, once again. i sure hope they straighten it out, and quickly.

i don't think vzw would pull it altogether. maybe a delay in release, but not totally scrapped, imo. it's not like LTE connectivity issues haven't arisen before. and that didn't stop vzw from releasing the devices. releasing a device that (most likely) vzw wasn't going to market very heavily to begin with, followed by an OTA fix?? doesn't seem too far fetched to me...

edit: assuming the rumor to be true, in the first instance - which, as EarlyMon points out, is a BIG assumption...

I do remember when the first Nexus came out. It was like google.com/phone.

It had Verizon Sping 2010. Then Spring came and gone and when you checked back it said buy the HTC Incredible instead on Verizon. So things can change.

Maybe Verizon hasn't announced it because their not selling it? Only buy it off contract unsubsidized.

Verizon fans, I believe we are getting a Nexus, but I also have a tinge of doubt read Is Verizon getting the Galaxy Nexus?

Man we just keep getting our hopes up and then they get smashed back down!

If true, then it absolutely needs to get fixed before release. I've had enough of phones that don't work getting released (Storm, Fascinate). Either all features work as intended, or don't release it.

I'd rather never get a Galaxy Nexus than one with poor reception, bad call quality, malfunctioning GPS, or "spotty" 4G.

There, I said it. I'd rather not get a half baked Nexus.

I agree in theory......but Ti does sell the OMAP 4460 as a 1.5GHz device. Go download the datasheet for yourself. No mention at all about 1.2GHz.

For giggles, my EE coworker/friend who is also interested in the Prime called up Ti to inquire about purchasing the OMAP 4460. Got spooked by some of the delay reports. We got quoted lot prices and delivery dates. There were no issues.

Trust me, there is no problem running this chip at 1.5GHz. If there was, thier datasheets would have been updated by now. Chip has been available for months now.

Okay 'Vette, what's the story? Does your EE coworker/friend retract the claim, or should we believe that 1.5GHz is available in quantity but Nexus uses a slower chip for the battery savings?

What I find suspect is that the announcement hasn't happened yet they are talking cancellation supposedly. Any issues can usually be fixed and more than likely I doubt Samsung and Google got this far along WITH the VZW version of the device all long with REALLY SERIOUS 4G issues. There is no reason they would threaten to out and out CANCEL the device over this. Well unless this marginalizes their supposed exclusive time frame, as that would hurt their EGO while also breaching contract possibly and allowing a no strings cancel. Still if your customers are HUGELY worked up over the device you will make it happen even if you loose some of the exclusive time.

Really though I think there is more than this and this is just being used as leverage related to other tension related to the deal.

Shenanigans. Calling shenanigans right now.

Not believing that report at all.

Attempts at relevancy, just to drive click traffic up.

Yes, P3Droid had this bit of into yesterday because he hinted that there may be doubt that VZW would get the Gnex. I believe that this may have been a legitimate issue but to can the whole project due to hardware issues in need of tweaking? I don't think so. Not happening. Others say that it's possible for VZW not to get this and even accuse them of having a conspiracy to screw us. This one is just too big to simply pass up. It's a done deal.

I hope the both of you are right. I see this as Verizon having a bad taste in their mouth, and this is just another way to pull another nexus one.

Verizon had all intentions of carrying the Nexus One and it was tested but the rumor was they nixed the device over connectivity issues (sound familiar?) regarding CDMA. Word was that Sprint was to carry it as well, and they too skipped on it - probably same issues with them being CDMA as well. The Nexus One only ever came to AT&T (quietly) months later, other than launching on T-Mobile, of course.

That was HTC and this is Samsung. Samsung got the Nexus S successfully working with CDMA/WiMax, and with their longstanding CDMA pedigree along with currently working LTE in with CDMA in their domestic market, I'm confident they can get things resolved. At least, I hope so.

This is probably true. You can always hit some MHz, but depending on how the margins are it might not hit those speeds in power levels that you would prefer for a smartphone. And the 1.5mhz rumors might have been based on promises to Samsung and such that they could get things into some power region and were never able to get there before launch.

Basically still margin issues. There is probably a promised power level also, but it's probably conservative and well over what a big OEM like Samsung or Moto might request when deciding what clock speed to ship at.
