Root Another upgrade question...dont shoot..!

I have unrooted my phone using unrevoked, my current android version is 2.2 kernel version 2.6

my phone is trying to take the 4.24.651.1 upgrade but of course its unsuccessful. My question is what would be the best way for me to upgrade my phone to the latest android version without losing my apps and other information?

Thanks all!

Never accept an OTA! In fact... right now, go into your settings> system updates> HTC software updates> and uncheck the box so your phone doesn't even search for them. If you accept an OTA it could seriously mess up your phone if they close the security flaw that you are using to root.

Just wait untill the devs bake the new update into their ROMS.

ANd just an FYI there is already a rom for the
[ROM][STOCK][Rooted] 4.53.651.1 - Odexed & De-Odexed - xda-developers

Thats more updated than the update your phone is trying to download;)

Look for it in the ROM & Kernels download page

And where are my manners,

WELCOME TO THE FORUMS!!

yep like rexprt says never accept an ota in general when you are rooted or plan on rooting your phone. what usually happens in an ota is that the bootloader gets updated and then the previous exploit will not work any more and you will have to wait. fortunately the devs have found a new exploit so gingerbread is now rootable. but since you are not rooted yet and you have froyo then go ahead and use this http://androidforums.com/evo-4g-all-things-root/194918-rooting-dummies.html guide to get you rooted.

Rooting is the best way to update your phone. There are a few programs out there that will save all your apps App Manager is pretty good and so is Backup Manager it does MMS, SMS, Bookmarks, Call Log, System Settings*, Alarms, APN, and Apps. I like Backup Manager its pretty Good. Once you are rooted You will want Titanium Backup for Apps and Data. However Backup Manager is really good for the call log and sms/mms stuff.
With System Settings I would just uncheck this option and not save them unless you never plan on changing roms.
