Verizon actually turns the updates around pretty quickly. Approx 1 month (which I know most will complain is not quick, but it is in the product test and verification world). I've seen OEMs know of known bugs and still not fix them, ever.

Edit: I bought an X2 in July, walked out of the store grinning with my new prize and before the store's door closed behind me, I dropped it on the pavement outside. I always chide my wife about how frequently she drops her iPhone (she's got it in a thick, construction-worker-type case), and she just stared at me and started laughing.

When I took it back a few days later (hated the screen), I sheepishly told the rep that I dropped it and showed him the scuff mark and dent (didn't want to feel like I was pulling a fast one), and he just shrugged and said "Eh, it'll rub out."

True story. Not all Verizon reps are jerks or stupid.

As I mentioned 8 million posts ago, I am still using a Samsung Omnia. I have had it four years and it has taken some abuse. It has held up remarkably well. I think the "cheap plastic" argument is valid if the "perception" of build quality is important to you rather than its actual application and durability over time. To each their own, that's why it is wonderful when we have so many options! Gnex for me please!

I agree that the OEMs are the biggest problem. Usually, it's the mfrs that drag thier feet, not the carriers.

And if by "drag thier feet", means checking stability and correcting bugs, I don't inherently have that much issue with it. Verizon was right to reject alot of builds provided to them by the mfr. I know one build for the DX that had AT&T plastered all over the wifi hotspot app. How'd that look for Verizon if thier internal testing didn't catch that?

Looked even better when the second round did the same thing! No lie, the build number went up an increment of "1" and that was the only difference that I could see. The update was so bad that I got sick of squashing bugs in my ROM (Jermaine did this as well, to a higher degree), and just abandoned development. I'm now using my own custom build of CM7.1, though I have no intentions of releasing it. I'm just going to use it until I upgrade to the Galaxy Nexus (or other device, but likely the GN).

droid x updates and htc thunderbolt were very buggy. Verizon tests and leaves glaring bugs in software and still pushes it out. For as long as they take much of the time they do a shit job anyway.

I know our source had a GNex back in July that had 32 gb of internal storage. Whether or not we're going to get 32 gb is another story. I have a PM into her/him asking if s/he knows anything about what's coming to us. I don't expect to hear right away. He/she has a life..unlike us.

He was the same way on the bionic forums when the sgs2 was supposed to be coming to verizon saying how shitty the bionic was and how great samsung was. Funny now he changes his tune. Oh well it will be another disappointment from motorola.

I agree here. The Bionic is an outstanding device, but Motorola screwed up. If you're going over a typical refresh cycle, you release the new product in month 1, the slight refresh in month 7, and the NEW new product (update of the first model) in month 1 again. The Atrix and Bionic were originally intended to be similar phones (Bionic originally ran Tegra 2) and ship within months of each other. Instead, we get the Bionic in September, and the refresh of it (RAZR) 2 months later!

It's an outstanding device, but when the updated model is coming out 2 months later, what's the point? I see no purpose in the Bionic. There is nothing that it does, that I'm aware of, that sets it apart from the RAZR except for a removable battery. OTH, the RAZR improves on the atrocious screen, is clocked 200mhz higher, and claims to offer better battery life.

The big devices this quarter from the top OEMs are, IMO, the Galaxy S2 (Samsung), Spyder (Motorola), Sensation XE (HTC), and Galaxy Nexus (Google), as well as their variants, such as the RAZR (Spyder) or Rezound (Sensation XE). Samsung got theirs out in May, and it's still considered either the best or up there with the best 6 months later. That is DAMN impressive. If you imported a GS2 when they came out, you're STILL sitting pretty and will be for awhile.
