***Official Galaxy Nexus Pre-Release speculation thread**

Ok kids,

I'm back online. We got power back this afternoon. Sigh. What a weekend. To my credit, I did not shovel a thing. :D All I had to do was sweep my car off. After we got power back, Comcast internet did not follow suit until tonight. Comcast is back now and things are back to normal for work tomorrow.

I tell you, the cold and the darkness last night? Not fun. Cleanup? Not too bad. As the snow melted off the heavy leaved trees, the tree branches snapped back to normal looking, for the most part, and you'd never know that they were bent to the hilt.

Glad to be back. :D

Glad you're back safe and sound! :)

For everyone planning on going to a dumb phone as a backup before the Nexus...DON'T. I did because a customer service rep told me I could get back my unlimited data plan within 14 days. The next customer service rep told me no that was a lie. I have been screwed/cheated out of my plan. Learn from my misfortune LOL.

Wow thanks a lot man. Are you under contract? I always was under the impression that you were stuck with the data plan regardless of phone while under contract.

Hey guys, I posted this in the Costco thread, but I'm not sure how many of you venture out from the cave, so I'll post it here as well.

You all might remember YankeeDudeL from the Bionic threads. Anyway, I asked him about Costco availability, and this is his reply:

Hey there. I'm not sure of the date, but I can tell you we will def be carrying the Nexus. I don't know the date or the price, but I do know that it will be a Home Delivery phone ONLY. Meaning you will have to order it in store and have it shipped to your house, which generally takes about 3 business days.

I may have to make my way to the forum for anyone with questions. :)

Just FYI.

My poor OG Droid came off the charger at 100% at 5 PM. No wifi, no surfing, just Bluetooth music streaming. By 7 PM is was down to 60%. This morning it went from 100% to 20%, with virtually NO usage) in less than 4 hours. That is downright tragic, and if the Nexus gets any better battery life than that then I'm plus'd up.

Remember how old your OG is though. Assuming you haven't replaced the battery, it's pretty old by now. Battery life deteriorates over time. It's concerning to think about what LTE battery life is going to be like in about a year. It's also something for the RAZR folks to think about. They can't just pop in a new one.

If that was the case, then it currently isn't. In order to switch back to a dumb phone, you have to also remove the data plan from your account.

And now, even though I have been a loyal customer for YEARS, all I can do is fill out a form AFTER I get the Nexus and HOPE they say yes. Verizon is terrible.

don't be sucked in - that one's a Siren, i tell ya... ;)

Don't worry about me, Husker. I'm impervious to all cyber-women's charms. There's literally absolutely nothing she can do that would make my eyes even begin to widen.

As far as the SGN is concerned, I hope that supposed SCH-i515 pic floating around that was alluded to earlier is legit. No branding whatsoever on the front? It will be a nice black slab. Not like that fugly RAZR with Verizon and Motorola stuck all over it like it was a stock car.

Well, my Droid x is starting to show its age. First off the recent 605 update came with reboots on average every day and a half. I downloaded HDR camera free and while it makes my DX's camera a bit more usable with more viable photos worth sharing, its slow as tar. I loaded the same app on my sisters new bionic and its super quick.

The random rebooted are very annoying because I will often load this thread or other things to read on break and i will have to find the page i was on due to a reboot.

Looks like ics may be the ticket which the nexus may be just the phone. Hope ICS is more stable then gingerbread

this phone is definitely gonna be a beast and i'm almost sure i'll buy it, but everytime i see pictures of it, my eyes go straight to the huge amount of unused bezzle on the bottom of the phone. add in the area for the software buttons, and that's alot of wasted real estate....

I haven't posted in a bit. I will have the GNexus. CK: shame on you for not waiting to test both devices...the RAZR will be great but seriously hampered by the biggest drawback: FIXED BATTERY.

Yes to the cloud. Yes to the unlocked bootloader. Yes to easy root, just in case of any VZW shenanigans. Zero shutter lag...really? No one sees this as an absolute winner? FTW...GNEXUS WILL RULE!

2CENTS,

JMAR!

This was posted on AC earlier today by BMX regarding battery life:

this device has been trashed by the best panda paws that exist.. rock solid all day performance

Sounds good enough to me for my usage. The 4 hours of battery life he spoke about before was transferring heavy amounts of data. Definitely not typical. I think the battery life on the Gnex will be fine for the majority users.

If Razr had removable battery, it would be a little harder for me to pick. That along with locked BL, lackluster Moto camera made it easy for me to go with G Nexus. I'm hoping for great stock ICS experience on HD screen of Nexus.

Did anyone post this yet?

so..guess I should share some news. The release date for the Verizon nexus is under review... do not think It will be the third or for that matter the 10th hear rumors peg it near the 17th and based on carrier request to "space" out their release plans things maybe turning to crap.

I will update when i can confirm....

EDIT: Guess I'm about 5 days too late LOL

You know... I did some thinking about owning a 4G smartphone with a fixed battery. I guess I'd have to carry a wall outlet around with me on day trips? ;)

No can do. I don't see how folks are going to get by like that. 4G? Fixed battery? 4G power drain? I dunno.

I have a good feeling about this week! And no I don't know anything, I just feel like we will get some solid info. Here's to hoping. My X2 has been doing some funky stuff lately even though it isnt that old. I think it just knows it's about to be replaced very soon and is messing with me on purpose.

We want some info VZW, dod gamnit!!!

I found an iPhone 4s vs Galaxy Nexus camera speed test.

iPhone 4S vs Galaxy Nexus Camera speed test

The text to go with that video is that the Nexus knocked out five shots to the iPhone's 6. But for me, that's not the real test. What's missing from all the hands-on reviews are sample photos. I haven't read a single reviewer make any derogatory comments towards the new camera, so I'm hopeful we've got a phone that can snap some crisp, clean images.

I am going to miss having a physical camera button to trigger the shutter, but I'll betcha the quick shot times will make up for that -- not like the long 2 second delay I cope with now with my BlackBerry.

the galaxy nexus has a fixed battery!?!?! You cant swap it with another one????

Not sure how the myth started that a photo could unlock your phone with Face Unlock, but it can't. I can't remember where I read it, but I think it was either the long TIMN interview with Duarte or someone else that knew the technology well. They absolutely discounted that it was possible. It was originally written as a concern by an Apple fanboi and seems to have been perpetuated from there.

This may be the source material you saw?

Can Android's new 'Face Unlock' feature be hacked using a photo? Google says no

...although in response to a tweet by Koush from CM, not an iPhoner.
