So BMX is tweeting that he's expecting some "leaked info" regarding release date this week. He's also saying on AC that the battery on the Verizon version is bigger than the GSM one.

I might not be reading enough here but who is BMX?

BMX = shortened for Black_Man_X on twitter. He once worked for Verizon and now works for Google. He has been known to be a very knowledgeable inside source, but writes terrible poetry and some silliness to reveal details.

Thank you wasn't sure if it stood for bicycle motorcross. I hope he brings some good news for us all.

VZW doesn't give one flip about this phone. They sell phone contracts. They also have market research that no matter what happens, us, the current customer (non apple) wont jump to the competition. One reason is the unlimited grandfathered contract. Thats a big deal, specially with there 4g network which they also know is better than the others.

The only way around all this bs is to pass legaslation some how getting rid of the 2 year contract. Cable companies dont have it, your house phone doesnt have it, its the frigging cell phone industry. Think if they tried to pull this crap and there were no contracts, like your house phone...ha ha...see ya!
Its all about the 2 year contract. The phone is a formality.

this thread makes me laugh because I was disappointed thinking this will be the verizon exclusive and maybe 2-3 months later a AT&T version might come out but it all changed it's like a football team up by 30 points at the half and all of a sudden the other team comes alive and makes a comeback, LOL I couldn't help myself LOL you all seem kinda having your heads bowed over :D

Gotta agree, the US telecoms industry is bordering on a cartel IMO (or prob more accurately, an Oligopoly), some gov intervention is required.

Over here I have so many choices for any phone, for example, for the Nexus:

- I could get the phone subsidized from at least 4 different operators with contracts ranging from 18 months to 24 months.
- I could buy it SIM free and stick in a PAYG SIM, a SIM on a 1 month rolling contract or a SIM on a 12 month contract, all with varying levels of minutes, data, etc and obviously at varying prices.

It seems crazy to me that you guys (US) can go to an operator with your own phone and your monthly fee is the same as someone who gets a subsidized phone, and the 24 month tie in is ridiculous.

I personally will be buying the Nexus SIM free and get a SIM on a 1 month rolling contract for

And with that, Good Morning GNexers, it is now November, and with any luck, before this month is out, we will have the GNex in our hands.

Everything you said is true, but the first statement. It is government intervention that put us in this situation to start with. There aren't many areas where American's are less "free" than in the UK, but cell service is one of them.

Actually, the cell phone industry is pretty much unregulated here. This is the reason why cell phone carriers have to ability to do what they do(IE. charge us up the ass for monthly fees and ETFs). This is also the reason why we have two totally different bands in the US. The FCC continues to make money selling or leasing spectrums of frequencies to these companies and the companies AND CTIA(don't let these guys fool you for one damn second) have to ability to pressure congress to let things "slide."

Cell phones and cable companies are all on the same boat unfortunately when it comes to regulation. The simple fact is that the US government sees these two entities as being "luxury" items and wants nothing to do with either one except their taxes for operating on their wavelength of the radio spectrum. Funny thing is, we pay for that as well lol.

The only thing that's keeping these companies from ROYALLY screwing us is their competition against one another. Thats why if this AT&T / T-Mobile merger goes through, this WILL NOT be good. Can you imagine the implications if this is allowed? What would happen if now all of the sudden VZW buys out Sprint and all we're left with is AT&T or VZW? CDMA vs GSM?

So what you're saying is you can buy the phone unsubsidized then pay $15 more dollars per month for a rolling aim, or you can get a subsidized one under contract and not pay that fee???? Seems to me that if you are happy with your service provider, you should just do the contract and save yourself about $700 over 2 years

Not quite. If the phone was to be subsidized, the monthly fee would be greater than $15 per month.

Good morning G'nexers!

Happy November -- just getting closer and closer to release date. Still hoping for 11/10 preorder and 11/17 launch with some info coming from BMX, P3Droid, Source or VZW at Rezound launch.

Barriers to entry, it is crony capitalism at its best. In the UK any mom and pop outfit can become a telecom provider, with minimal capital expense. That is why their service is so cheap. That is why net neutrality is such a big deal for wireless providers over here. As long as they can prevent that, they have the barrier to entry needed to maintain the pricing structure they do. And as far as competition, while AT&T has coverage at my house, and at my place of employment, it doesn't have it in-between, neither does sprint, t-mobile, alltel, or anyone else. So I don't see Verizon really having true equal competition by anyone, at least where I live.

I think we are all hoping for a 11/10 preorder. Just hopefully if they do that it won't end up like the razr and people have to wait for weeks to get the phone.

It's kinda obvious that Verizon doesn't like to launch two flagship phones in one succession. You can bet they won't launch the Nexus until the worry free exchange time has passed for the Razr just like they are releasing the Razr after the iPhone 4 has been out for a few weeks. They know some of us are undecided and would exchange devices just to determin what we like better.

I hate to say it, but if you don't like the fact that this phone's release date keeps getting extended, blame yourself. Verizon knows what type of excitement is built and what type of following this phone has on here and elsewhere around the internet. They know that the Rezzound, et. al. do not have that kind of excitement. Why would they release this phone that they KNOW we are excited about when they can release others and still have us in their back pocket? If this thread had a much smaller following, you would have seen the release date by now. #opinion

Agreed, though even if I had to wait a few weeks after preordering, I would feel better having preordered.

It will never be allowed to be vzw vs at&t. It would be an anti trust issue and would never be able to be spun that the merger would be good for competition and the consumer. The industry might be loosely regulated, but anti trust laws will prevent what you're saying from happening.

I second that. I would just like to know that I will definitely be getting this phone. I think I am now certain that I will pre-order if/when this is announced.

My question is this:

Would you prefer finding out officially that this phone is releasing later than you wanted but still reasonable all things considered (like 11/24 or early December) OR being in flux like we are now but with the hope that it will still release on Nov. 17?

And I'm not poking fun or meaning to be a tool, I'm just curious because I'm not even sure. I think the OCD part of me needs a solid release date and then I could cope from there, but I'm not totally sure. You?

OK, now I am getting impatient... I've been lurking, waiting, hoping and now just impatient!

My OD is getting long in the tooth, I either buy a new battery or a new phone!

Ugh!

Whew, all caught up. Jeez, go away from this thread overnight and I had 4+ pages to catch up on. So the low-down is this:

1. BMX = Not bicycle racing, but a Google (and former Verizon) employee that enjoys torturing us by releasing clues in bad poetry.

2. OG Droid = Original Generation Droid, not Original Gangster Droid... although I wasn't the only one that thought it was Gangster. :p

3. The unofficial/official release date for the Galaxy Nexus is still November 17th, despite the rumors it could be early December.

4. We all hate bloat, which is why the Galaxy Nexus is appealing to Android fans.

Is that close?

I want whatever brings the earliest release date. To me, the extra joy I will have in having it early will outweigh my present angst about release date. I know it will be released before years' end, so to know it will be released 12/1 will not be as good as not knowing when it's released but getting it on 11/17.
