***Official Galaxy Nexus Pre-Release speculation thread**

Riddle me this, Batman:
1. why did Verizon say we'd be "very happy" with the Nexus waaay back when, if they aren't promoting it?
2. what the frak did the poem mean about "fore on Bruce Wayne's true father did die" - shouldn't that mean the Gnex would be out by now? (reading "fore" as in "before" not as in "for")

Unfortunately, my dear Emperor Stitch, you are assuming too much.

1. "Verizon" didn't say it, the Love Tunnel did. The Love Tunnel appears to be a phone geek like us and thought we'd be "very happy" because of ICS, not because of release date or promotion.

2. BMX is the most hideous, terrible, loathsome poet I've ever seen. I strongly suspect "fore" is a typo, 1 of about a million in that dreadful poem. I think he meant November 3, which is obviously wrong. It was probably right at the time, and got switched.

Pretty sure fore when when he died.ever read a piece of classical poetry? Then you would understand.

I'm not debating the meaning of the word "fore", I know very well what it means, thanks.

I'm debating the quality of BMX's poetry. I think that was obvious from my post.

Well I'm ruined. I went to the Costco phone kiosk and toyed with several smart phones to the point of getting the rep to ***Sigh*** and then got into my ride and started using my SLOW-ASS OGD.
My OG is running stock with minimal apps which are all forced closed until I need them.

The GN could suck compared to all others and will still be a Cinderella phone to me in comparison to the OG in responsiveness.

Now the days are really gonna get longer as I read on here all of the wanna-be insiders spewing profound revelations about what and why Verizon and Samsung do things the way they do.

***gapi*** sits back onto his hands to keep from pulling hair.

Agree the razr and rezound both have equally impressive specs as the nexus, i could waut a few weeks for ics if the nexus continues to get pushed back.

Honesly, I don't think the specs are in the same league. Not revolutionary, but not close either.

HD screen. Right there is a huge difference between the GNex and all others.
Processor: Moto RAZR may be close (verdict is out on 4430 or 4460), but the Vigor won't be near as good with that POS Snapdragon, especially on the GPU side with that bigger POS adreno.
Camera: Most likely the Moto camera will stink, the HTC camera will be marginal, and the verdict is out on the GNex. But it has a zero shutter lag feature, which already sets it apart.

And of course, the biggest differentiating feature, vanilla ICS with updates from Google. No locked bootloader, ability to customize, etc.

So you know what though, I'm totally happy with VZW keeping the Gnex gem low profile, it means we will have less competition with the unwashed masses on launch day :p

After our serial killer debate yesterday, I'll say this: Is there really any debate about the quality of BMX's poetry? Just awful...

And I agree that he was probably right about Nov 3 at one point in time, but those decisions change on a dime.

STAY AWAY FROM PHONE RETAILERS! Don't. Just don't. Because you'll be tempted to give in and you don't want to do that.

Things I have learned so far since subscribing to this thread:

1 - We have a love/hate relationship with VZW Absolutely. No argument there.

2 - There are others that check this thread/forum just as often as I do, therefore not making me crazy. (maybe) Throughout the day, lest I have pages and pages to catch up on.

3 - I probably should have watched Dexter from the beginning because it sounds like a good show Never watched it.. the TiVo is full enough from shows/movies I watch now; I don't need to add another!

4 - We could conceivably push people down steps like slinkies for starting rumors and spreading untruths Ooohhhh, can we really?!

5 - Productivity at most of our jobs is not anywhere near 100%. The SAS server at work would have been online weeks ago if it weren't for this thread! ;)

Did I miss anything?

Agreed - see above.

I'm in the same boat, ie a dead OGD. Temptation is strong for some RAZR love, but this is what helps me

Galaxy Nexus

Stay strong! It's not much longer!

Agreed!

Something keeps bothering me, though.

We're assuming Verizon doesn't want to market this out of spite or whatever, but that makes no sense. If they didn't want to sell it, they wouldn't. In the grand scheme of things, who cares if they piss off a half million Nexus lovers? They know most of us aren't going anywhere because of unlimited data and superior 4G coverage.

Also, why would they want exclusivity if they don't want to sell the phone in the first place? Doesn't make sense, and it doesn't seem like Google would just give exclusivity away for it's own sake; that would result in very limited gains.

Something is up here, I just don't know what. But something smells very, very fishy.

And I hate fish.

Yeh! Thanks, don't worry, I'll not be giving in.
I was mainly wanting to compare form factors against the OG and the displays, signal strengths and GPS fixing even if it was from inside the building.
I toyed with speaker volumes playing back ring tones back and forth and was really pushing the reps patience because he was steady running the canned sales talk and I was responding with grunts and "really?" and the like. Just killin time.

I think they're actually pissed at themselves, because about 6 months ago their entire year's release schedules got horked like a giant hairball and they've been scrambling ever since to create the appropriate spin.

I wonder if Gnex will be a slow starter then heavily advertised around the holiday shopping season, to give RAZR and HTC phone a chance to pull in some serious money first.

Me, too!

Everyone is painfully aware of my "conspiracy theories" so I won't repeat them. But SOMETHING is afoot at the Circle K... and none of us like it. I sure hope this doesn't turn into another round of manic depression here in the forums :( this roller coaster ride needs to come to an end!

I don't think we're going to get Bionic'd again (meaning a POS phone after too many delays).

I don't think the Bionic screwed up the year's schedule, because otherwise they wouldn't have released the RAZR, which is obviously Bionic II (meaning a better, faster version which should have come out 6 to 10 months after the Bionic, but didn't.)

I am starting to think, however, that we may have been premature in thinking that the SGN was releasing any time relatively soon. With the RAZR and ReHound being out in November, that sets them up for a great Black Friday if they get discounted for that weekend. Then, what's left for the Xmas shopping season? If the SGN was always slated to come out in December, that makes more sense, from a holiday shopping point of view. (This is by no means my opinion; I'm just thinking out loud.)

I don't know. Maybe December 1 does make sense. That would give the RAZR and ReHound crowd time to get their phones without being able to return them for the SGN.

Oh well. If Verizon screws us over and releases this thing 2 days before Xmas, I won't be surprised. If they release it in November, I'll be happy.

C'est la vie.

I predict, similar to other phones before, they'll put this one as internet/phone order only, allowing the RAZR and Rezound (and even Bionic) to sell through on the floor. It's really tough selling the previous generation's models at the same list price as the next gen. I seriously doubt that Verizon is doing this out of spite or out of a desire to push bloat--as a business, their #1 motive is profit, plain and simple.

It's just that Gingerbread had a retail window of less than 6 months, and it's rough on the latecomers--first Bionic, then RAZR, then Rezound. Verizon is simply, IMHO, giving the manufacturers of those phones a chance to recoup their engineering costs prior to submarining them with the GNex. It'll be interesting to see how these sell in ICS's wake (if the numbers are ever leaked).

I went to bed last night for the first time without being caught up on the thread. I'm losing my enthusiasm. The elation of details has turned into headaches...

It could be that Google and Samsung are the ones who want to market the phone. Verizon doesn't heavily market Apple products either so it isn't unheard of.

Maybe the only way that Verizon would accept the Nexus device is if they become the exclusive carrier for a few months. Google realizes that Verizon has the biggest market and offer the best 4G (a huge selling point), so it could be the best way to push their phone out.

Other Nexus phones were never released for Verizon and Google could see that as a reason for poor sales in the past. Other carriers are going to get the Gnex too, so it isn't a big loss for Google.

Verizon could also think that the RAZR will be a more desirable phone and has a longer exclusivity agreement, so that it makes more since to focus more attention there.

This is all speculation, but their are plenty of rational business reasons for Google and Verizon's actions. There is not much reason to assume something fishy for now.

Well I just appraised my OG Droid on the Verizon Trade-in Program, and it's worth $22.

At those prices, you might as well hit up swappa to try to sell, or hold onto it as a backup.

My OG Droid still runs surprisingly well with CM6.1.2 and a slight overclock, as long as I reboot it once a day. I'll keep mine as a backup in case the GN breaks.
