Root [CDMA] Phone updated itself!

got the update last nite. running infectedROM eternity 1.4.2. no changes noticed so far. still rooting and everything running fine

I don't buy that. If Sprint was doing some kind of upgrade that would make that dramatic of a speed increase you KNOW that the reps would be aware of it. Not to mention every tech site out there would already have the information.

that isn't something Sprint is going to hide lol.

If it's not available in all areas, I'd bet they'd hide it. If they officially acknowledge a 3G speed bump in most areas, they would have to field complaints and threats to end service from the areas that didn't.

Well my speed is slower...So should I start complaining?!

Because it's not officially announced, they could just deny everything. Also cite how speeds vary by time of day, location, and how speed test.net isn't an accurate measure of data speeds, blah blah blah...

I fought that battle right after the Evo 3D came out, as 3G was horrible. Now, it's acceptable.

I declined the update and updated PRL and Profile manually.

Web speedtest says performance is the same, maybe upload is a bit slower today / at the moment.

The speedtest app says my performance in 3G has doubled compared to the web app.

Proving once again how great the speedtest app is, as well as the great vigor and diligence used for the typical GoodAndEvo story.

/sarcasm

I took the update and saw no difference in speeds up or down. Of course the speeds here have been in the crapper since the big changes 6 months ago...

Maybe it does vary depending on location. For a few weeks now I have been noticing better 3 and 4G coverage and speed. My son and I took a trip from Nashville TN to Lexington, KY for a campus visit at UK and had excellent service the entire trip. No clue as to whether the update had anything to do with it but my overall service, coverage, and speed has been a lot better lately.

I think it's all in your heads :p

A PRL update isn't going to affect anything unless you roam. Update Profile is just Sprint sending your ip address, username, etc to your phone.

If the update was something else, who knows, but 3g speed increases pretty much would have to be from tower/sprint network upgrades, not something on your phone.

Lol, I have been noticing improvement for a few weeks now. As for the update, have no idea what it did but usually when I travel up I65 to Kentucky I hit dead spots. I didn't lose service once on this trip. Maybe they've just activated more towers or something. Who knows? If this is a part of Vision though, I'm definitely liking it. I do not like forced updates though. I was scared to death I'd lost root ;)

I just got this message a few minutes ago. I so rarely use 3G that I probably have no good baseline to identify any change....
