***Official Galaxy Nexus Pre-Release speculation thread**

I am sorry that I didn't specify, but I assumed that the intended hyperbole was obvious. In no way, shape, or form do I really think the Verizon execs are watching this thread with sinister delight. I do think our respective opinions are more important to them, because they know that the early adopters can, and will, make or break the success of a device such as this. Hence their silence on a release date, or anything as they don't want to perpetuate rumors of hardware/software issues with this phone. They do want to sell a lot of them and the overpriced data plans that will go along with them.

Sorry, I definitely missed the hyperbole. I think people tend to miss that Verizon isn't a company that sells phones. They're a company that sells phone service, data plans, internet, etc. Samsung, Moto, HTC, etc are phone companies that sell phones. It sounds like an oversimplification, but in order to understand the business of things, it's important not to lose sight of what is is Verizon actually sells. If you're sitting in their shoes, your preference is likely that a consumer buys a Rezound or Razr because of your licensing deals with other companies and your own VZ bloat. However, at the end of the day, they'll be happy to sell us all the Nexus because we're all renewing our data plans for 2 more years (unless you pay unsubsidized of course). I doubt VZ makes much money at all from actually selling any of the 3, except for the bonuses for bloat. The phones are the vehicles that enable them to sell data. It's like Google's not really a search company. They're a company that sells advertising and they use the search engine to do that. I seriously doubt there are any sinister motives at play, just the fact that they want to sell more Razrs and Rezounds and then open things up after that. Makes perfect sense, IMO.

Wait, are people actually thinking this camera won't focus? That's weird.

I think that, nowadays, phone manufacturers should be putting at least some effort in making a quality camera. People don't like carrying cameras around their necks every time they go out. With the explosion of pic-posting in recent years (Facebook, Picasa, etc.), you'd think these companies would want to stay at least a little bit current.

Excellent radios is definitely essential, but can't they walk and chew gum at the same time?

Good Morning folks. We have already had one reported post and one deleted post this morning. Let's make that the end of it for today. Please try to remember that your tone and/or attempts at humor do not always come through on a computer/phone screen in black and white.

You guys are making me laugh.:D
I'm betting the camera is fantastic.
Your not even factoring in the human part of it. How its operated is a HUGE factor.
From what I have seen in the videos and such its all been totally armature and the examples are not worthy of any kind judgment.

If one has never taken a course in photography they have no business passing judgment.

But go ahead if it makes you feel better, you need some kind of release from all the waiting eh? Bring on the flames, I have my suit on.

Well I'm awesome at making pasta sauce but I suck at cooking chicken. If I serve my wife an undercooked pink chicken with great sauce on top, I doubt she'll want it regardless.

Who knows, maybe she'll lick the sauce off the chicken. :D

That's pretty much what most of us do, we pick the features that we need, and live with the other compromises. Some saw the lack of SD card and waived goodbye. It's thier choice.

Some don't use the camera that much, so it's a non-issue for them. Some don't use GPS, and some don't even make too many phone calls.

Sammy & Big Red better hurry up.
If I read of a quad-core phone with a 10MP cam and a built in solar powered battery that is paper thin due out by Thursday 1/27/12 I'm outta here!

True. To me, screen is much more important than the camera.

But I guess I didn't understand where all this "Oh no, the SGN camera sucks!" was coming from. We get a few shots posted, probably from people who don't know what they're doing, and a few shots from people at the unveiling who were jostling each other and showing off how they can take 3 pictures in 1 second and waving around like morons while doing it, and that tells us we can't expect a good camera?

Don't get it.

Gotta remember, the early pics were taken from test phones. May not be seeing the final product. I expect greatness.

This is in fact an important point....every image we have seen posted was taken from a test device!

I follow several Google employees on G+ and just this week one of them posted several images he took with his Nexus test device...they looked great, but in his post he stated that Google really didn't want him to use the device to take and post images with because he said that the sensor in the test devices had not gone through its final calibration yet and that this would improve the images in the final Nexus device.

Well, at least their priority's are in the correct order. Its a phone first, camera second.

I use it far more often as a camera than a phone.

+1 (I have used 42 minutes in the past 60 days so I fall squarely into the 'don't make too many phone calls')

I think a lot of what we are worrying about today is simply due to lack of information. Yes, we know a lot about the phone but until it's in our hot little hands we can speculate till the cows come home. (Although it is fun to speculate and imagine that the exec's at VZW are hitting F5 laughing at us all day)

Without even looking I can probably tell you at least one of them was one of my post.

Nexus camera has touch to focus. Arguing if the pics are good or not is an subjective opinion.

I'm fine with anything thats focused and don't expect perfection from a cell phone. So anything these current crop of phones take is a o k with me :)

I use my phone for business and my business is not photography. So no complaints here about the cam/pics from the Nexus

Agreed!

Just in: Blizzard heading towards hell!

The euphoria of a new phone is gone in this thread and is turning to paranoia. Every day there is a new "what if." Today's topic, bad camera. Yesterday a pushed out launch date. Day before that it was Steven's bad source wasn't legit.

Let's all take a deep breath and realize this will be the baddest ass phone on the best network when it's released.

If Verizon would just throw us a bone and give us a release date, we could all focus on what's next!

Remember when the 3rd of November held such promise? That stupid, horrible poem that hinted at it as being the day when we would be able to buy it in "stores of red and black"?

Ah. We were such idiots back then, weren't we?

Can fellow tv geeks check out my question in the Gnexers lounge forum? Thanks!

So what has changed since then?

Just an FYI for all you GSM people out there. Another member has informed me that he pre-ordered his Galaxy Nexus today. Paid $680 for it. He should be posting about it soon, if he hasn't already.

CDMA customers, you may now continue on your downward spiral of despair. No jumpers today please. We are all very tired from talking the last guy off the ledge.

EDIT: Here is the thread http://androidforums.com/samsung-galaxy-nexus/438817-gsm-galaxy-nexus-pre-orders-only.html
