HTC Vivid

So looks like it will be called the vivid in the US. For those in Canada who have it, how nice is the qHD screen? That might be the deciding factor for me between this phone and the new Skyrocket, which will be a 1.5ghz dual core, LTE capable version of the SGSII...

i compared it to the gs2 an frankly i liked it alot better, but i think it may be personal choice, dont think you can go wrong with either. One thing i love about this phone is the metal body feels very solid in the hand as opposed to the sammy

Yeah I think the Vigor and the Skyrocket is going to come down to which you like better, Samsung or HTC. I'm going to play with both and then probably get one of these two. 2 other phones that I may be waiting for on AT&T (for me anyway) Samsung Note & Nexus Galaxy.

I'd also like to see some reviews on the camera for both, that might be the deciding factor for me.

I have heard HTC has some QC issues. The EVO 3G for instance had some problems with the power button? Is this a real concern?m

I just hope the Vivid gets here soon - can't wait. I really did not want to get the Galaxy S II. Phone is already six months old. Have tried several including my friend's from Germany. Nice phone, but I like the feel of the higher end HTC phones.

The phone comes out Nov. 6

I may have answered another one of your posts so sorry if this is repetitive

Rumor has it that the note will never hit us carriers

Galaxy Nexus will hit Verizon soon. Other carriers will not receive it for a while

I am definitely going to check out the vivid....but as mentioned, build quality is pretty crappy

I had 6 evo's before finally getting a decent one

Like seriously, has htc devices become that hard to root nowadays? Well not hard but having to report it.
Once the bootloader is unlocked it's not hard or if you want temporary root you don't need to unlock it. From what I have read it seems no one has been able to perm unlock any of them with S-ON yet without going the official root.

Can you kindly point me to a thread on this topic.

on HTC's site it says it MAY void your warranty for certain things. i wonder what those are. although im sure ANY problem that comes up with the phone will be blamed on it being unlocked and rooted

maybe i should just grab the GS2, bleh....

Just check out the HTC Sensation forum on XDA. IIRC there was one device before that where this started. Everyone put up a big ruckus and HTC relented saying they would allow custom ROMS by providing decryption keys to unlock the bootloader. It took them many months to finally setup their website to provide keys but you had to sign away your rights to warranty. Also search on S-ON and S-OFF. I don't have a specific thread right now but that was why I returned my Sensation and canceled T-Mo after switching from AT&T. From then on I decided I won't buy any device before it had root. Also check out htcdev.com where HTC explains it.

Let me preface this by saying I like HTC android phones. I started with an HTC Magic and currently own the Evo 3D. I had the Raider (Canadian version) for 3 days before it crapped out on me. :( I wasn't able to connect to data anymore and I brought it back to the store and they weren't able to fix it either. I ended up returning it. :( I read on XDA another person had the same issue so maybe it's a faulty batch.

I really like the Evo 3D as well, but come to think of it, the first one I had had a dead pixel and I had to exchange it for another one.

I really hope this isn't a sign of things to come...

Can anyone tell me about the display? Can anyone confirm that it is NOT a pentile screen? I have seen the Bionic......DO NOT WANT A PENTILE!!!

Exactly. Chances are you'd never need the warranty anyway but there are other companies out there that are much more "developer friendly."

yea, chances are i wont need the warranty, but knowing my luck ill have some crazy problem with the phone the second i root it  . im definitely considering a different device now, but i do really love this phone. crap :(

Thats kinda where im at too, sys. I would love a notification light and id also agree the screen is probably nicer. As would be the quality of the phone itself. Is it worth not being able to root though? I figured id wait a bit to root anyway once bugs are fixed in roms/apps etc. Part of me just wants to get it and not care about the warranty, but i feel that may come back to bite me in the ass.

I just saw some skyrocket videos and not one had an led notification light so I'm going to guess it doesn't have one. I've been waiting for this htc "holiday" device for a while now so I might as well get it as I've been an htc fan for a while and this seems to be their best android handset yet. In the videos it looks nice and if I was to nitpick I would say I wish it had beats audio but I'm sure it'll still have a nice sound. Also wish the screen was a bit brighter outdoors but still looks like an improvement over my htc inspire. Very curious about the f2.2 28mm camera and the 1080p 60fps video, I hope its much improved from my crappy htc inspire camera. Pretty sure I'm picking this up on Sunday.

And as far as rooting, I dont think its a dealbreaker as most likely it'll come with the "unknown Sources" check box to install non market apps. I'm sure root will be around the corner and warranty doesnt matter all that much to me. I havent had to send one back to htc yet. Usually deal with at&t warranty dept. or insurance.
