Just pre-ordered Galaxy Note

Hi all,

Just wanted to say I have officially joined the queue for one of these bad boys.

Had a Galaxy S before this and held out until now to upgrade (which is no mean feat), the temptation of the SGS2 was great but I did well to hold on until now i think.

Was very VERY stuck between getting the Nexus and the Note, but the Note made more sense (SD card, bigger screen asset, faster SoC) and figured that the Note will get ICS no doubt, the only thing that Nexus has over the Note is a higher PPI and NFC.

I cannot wait for this to arrive, here is to hoping Clove.co.uk will have it available next week for me.

Looking forward to discuss the Note and its functions here.

If anyone has anything to share regarding Note and available accessories please feel free.

I ordered one off Amazon.co.uk yesterday, expected despatch date is between Nov 1st-3rd. Ordered a Lexar 32gb Class 10 micro SD card and a generic looking neoprene carry case too, it was only

@t sport, re: accessories, that case was a bit of a cheapy impulse purchase, I don't really bother with cases usually. Used an iPhone naked for 4 years, never had any problems, both were/are still perfect nick. I bought that case purely because, as the Note is so big, I may occasionally need to leave it in a bag or something, stops the screen getting scuffed ( I'd only over put it in a empty pocket away from keys etc).

Also ordered some micro sim->sim adaptors, I'm hoping I'll be able to bung my O2 iPhone sim into the note without any issues . I've also got an orange sim, data only, from my iPad. I'm toying with the idea of still using my iPhone purely as a phone while puutting my data sim in the Note, hmm, we'll see.


Anyway roll on delivery!
 
NZtechfreak, let me know if you have any issues with your palm accidentally hitting the keyboard while swyping or typing. This kept happening to me while playing around with the Wifi 5.0 player and it kind of had me concerned about getting the Note. Basically it would happen when I would have to extend my thumb to the far side of the keyboard. Let me know if you experience the same thing or not.
 
Cheapy neoprene case arrived - no sign of phone yet, obviously - and it's HUGE!! Probably won't use it much, not a big case guy, naked is the way designers intended their stuff IMO, but it gives me an option when storing it. Took a pic of it next to my iPhone 4, can't post it though, being a noob here.

I put something of similar dimensions to the Note in it and put it in my pocket, fits fine :)

Edit: Wednesday now and my Note has shipped!!! Ooh getting psyched now, if it arrives Saturday or before that'll be a bonus, I'm off work Friday - Tue.

Got it today Vader, haven't yet had that issue. Already Rooted and loving it so far.

I went for the same pouch just to have something to protect it until something better is available.

Also went for a @Folix screen protector, hoping this will fit perfectly.

Still waiting for the device.
 
Got a tracking number now for FedEx, estimated delivery is Friday :)

@NZtechfreak - re: rooting, is that to rid it of TouchWiz and just install vanilla Gingerbread? Is it 2.3.5 these days?

Not that au fait with Android yet, as I've said previously, but plenty of experience jailbreaking iPhones/hackintosh's/CFW on PSP's etc. so I'm only really a noob re: Android specifically. Wouldn't have a clue regarding actually coding stuff, but the point I'm making is I've no fear of fiddling with firmware etc so long as there's good sources of info on how to do it.

If it is to get rid of TouchWiz, do you recommend it? I'm definitely more inclined to vanilla than otherwise if that helps answer the question.

It doesn't take it to Vanilla, but opens up lots of other possibilities.

You can just replace TouchWiz with another Launcher in any case, that doesn't require root.
 
Aah right, cheers, really need to gen up on Android stuff don't I? :)

Probably a better idea for me to just use it out of the box initially I think, over time I'll figure out what I do and don't like.

Congrats you lucky SOB :D Glad to hear that it's not a problem.

When playing around with the Wifi 5.0 player I couldn't tell if it was happening because of the size of the device or if it was because I couldn't grip it normally because of the security dongle attached to the back of it.

Keep us updated on what you like or don't like about it.
 
I'd like to hear about battery life. The Engadget review is pretty vague on this, just mentions 9hrs of video playback, no mention if it was hd video, no mention of battery life while using 3G/wifi.

Nice one, same here :)

Took delivery of some micro sim adaptors and a 32gb micro sd card this morning, that case arrived yesterday, now I'm all set!

FedEx is still saying tomorrow by 6pm but I'm still a little skeptical, we'll see.
 
Excellent detailed review so far, thanks NZ. Didn't really have any misgivings about the pentile screen as I figured the screen res and size will make up for it, and your review seems to confirm this.

I can only imagine how big it will feel in my hands (oo-er etc) as I'm coming from an iPhone 4, which these days feels tiny next to some of my friends android phones.

So, a 64gb micro sd works fine with it? Bah, I've bought a 32gb, but on the plus side it is class 10 and the 64gb cards are still at the exorbitantly priced stage. Good to know for the future though.

Be very interested to hear about battery life out in the wild, likely something you can only form an accurate opinion after a while though.

The review has just heightened my anticipation for, hopefully, tomorrow's delivery.
 
Really? Hopefully it'll be fine for what I intend to use it for, hd mkv playback. If not, it'll give me an excuse to bung the 32gb in my camera and buy a 64gb :)

Mine has been dispatched too, I don't know when it'll arrive in Buffalo New York from Clove Tech.

I am with ATT and Just notice The note does not support 4G LTE.
