I'm still young so I'm usually a set PA (background) on something with any sort of real budget. But I also AD, produce and write when it's on a smaller scale. Currently I'm stuck in a post office :( it's me, the director, and two editors and that's it! So there's not much for me to do besides play on the forum all day. haha. :p

Yep, totally get where you are coming from.

Remember though that case makers, like phone makers, play the global market. The US was the leader in smartphones before, now the numbers are shifting.

Both Nexii together sold maybe a few million units. Being on Big Red will help, but case makers need a good projected return.

Tell you what tho - rather than guess, let's PM one of them and ask! :)

Agree 100% with you Chief..............i am a veteran and guess what i will be doing on that day? Working like i do any other day thanks to those that do not choose to "care". All about the big bucks nowadays.
I wouldn't however blame VZW. After all..........it is just a phone. A phone that will be at the top for a VERY short time until something new comes along.

Breaking silence as a long time lurker (Hooray Release Date!) my current lineup would be:

Note > Nexus > SGII > Razr > Rezound

(Bold to emphasize relative size)

As one who has not yet adopted a tablet the Note would be pretty cool if I could go back to the days of the Moto Brick Phone that I did actually try to carry in my pocket (dating myself for sure)...The EQ Processor the display (both good and bad) along with the micro-SD slot and big battery sound great......but Stephen58 sealed the deal for me with his ICS review that he linked...brought back great memories from the Sam/Goog event...(what a chat room); ICS early is the Nexus have to have for me and none of the competitors come close to 11/17...anyway my days of lurking are over...just playing catch-up after a 5 day cruise down to Cozumel...I had my final straw with Sprint and a good reason to break away to VZ and real 4G...this is from my actual MySprint site:

Oh and one more question to the VZ veterans - I will obviously not have the unlimited data that you all rightfully covet...I use way more data on my phone than calls or text so I was thinking of going with the 39.99 voice (use google voice and group me for texting) and the 50.00 or 70.00 data...my company has a 100$ max that they will pay for cell service...do I need to pay for the hotspot add on (I use it often with Sprint...I like to work from the golf course on my netbook)...will I be able to get the additional data with a root and a free hotspot, or should I just bite the bullet and pay the surcharge (although VZ is still better than the 30 dollar add-on I am paying sprint).

I agree. There are many more important reasons to be dissapointed than the release of a phone which the majority of people won't even care about. You have to remember, we at AF are a very very very small, weird, little niche of the real population. Also I agree that many young people may be going out to get their phones that day bc they are uninformed. In that case, I still don't blame VZW. Instead I blame those people and the education they received for their lack of information.

Well cool...learning the ropes and earning your stripes. Thats how a lot of successful people in the industry start out (as PA's)

Thanks :) I've been doing no-budget for about 7 years, so thankfully I've gotten a lot of opportunities very quickly - Just keep your fingers crossed MI doesn't pull a dumb move and blow the incentives we have! I was on one of the 'hottest sets' of the summer according to Variety or Hollywood Reporter and there were two more on that list in MI! It's been a good year. :D

As Early was saying, companies think more globally with accessories. The polarity of a phone and form factor helps a lot as well. Think about the number of things made to go with the iPhone. There are two important factors that affect that. Number one is the fact that is a true global phone and is sold in just about every single country on multiple carriers. The second is the fact that the form factor doesn't change all that much and the port configuration doesn't change at all. This tends to make things much easier for accessory companies to design and ship all their products knowing that people will buy them.

If the Nexus line can stick to a consistent form factor and becomes very popular then we should see accessories from most of the top companies.

Does Spring have a data tracker? You'd be able to judge how much you use so you can figure out the right spot in the tiered system VZW has. I'm not too sure about the tethering - that's something I've been considering/wondering myself. I would use it infrequently so I might just do the root route. Hope your transition goes smoothly!

One more reason why I love this forum :) You guys really know how to think this sort of stuff through.

I have to admit one of the reasons I was initially drawn to the iphone before I got my OG was the absolute wealth of cases. Smart on Apple's part to keep that so simple. I hope Google/Nexus are starting down that path with this phone, but somehow I think their instinct to innovate will override that possibility.

Thanks! I'll tell my Dad for ya...he'll be 73 on 11/11/11...and he's a Vet. You'd never know his age to look at him though. Good Lord he's healthy. May it continue for many years to come.

I do believe he plans on living to 120...

Yup MI is hot right now for incentives.I think a lot of producers and investors are scared they won't get their money. 40% is one of the best in the country.

Louisiana has some good incentives as well.

I think the major concern in Michigan is how the heck they are going to get those tax breaks out to the productions. Michigan is not doing to well.
 
Good evening you all! I just wanted to express my happiness with today's news as well.. I would like to give a BIG THANKS out to Steven58, his source among many others for all the great info they share! As you can see I am more of a lurker whom truly appreciates all of the input by everyone on this thread! Just look at how many times I have pressed the "THANKS" button Lol... Anyways back to lurking and thanking ;)

I think everyone here needs to stop caring about a Verizon release date and start worrying about what really matters; an Unlocked GSM Galaxy Nexus in the states.

For real Google. I need to be able to walk into a Best Buy on day 1 and give them my $529 and walk out with this phone. None of your US developers are on Verizon. Every Nexus phone has been released on T-mobile or ATT. How does a Verizon exclusive make sense. No one wants a thicker phone with worse battery life on a carrier that doesn't use an international standard.

So frustrating! Maybe its time to move to Windows Phone 7. ... except no AWS on the Lumia. Pentaband radios people. Get with the times!

So I'm at BJ's tonight with the kids (BJ's is a wholesale club like Sams or Costco, for those who's minds may start to wander).

Unlike Costco, they have Verizon owned store Kiosks in them, but you also get some deals that the traditional Verizon stores don't get. Anyway....I'm lurking around, looking at the Bionic and other devices, and was going to start some chit-chat with the Verizon guy if there was any info on the GNex. But he was busy with a customer interested in the iPhone4S. To my surprise, the Verizon guy was trying to talk the customer out of the iPhone, steering him towards 4G phones.

The customer was arguing with him, telling him the iPhone was 4G. It had to be 4G, because it was an iPhone 4. He was saying that Apple didn't put 4 on it if it wasn't 4G. Apple knows what they are doing, and wouldn't put a 4 on it if it wasn't 4G. The 4 means 4G, and if the Verizon guy knew anything, he'd know that's why apple put a 4 on it. 4 means 4G. And the reason they didn't come out with an iPhone5 was that 5G service isn't available yet, but it will be next year when they come out with the iPhone5.

Just wanted to share the mindset that the clueless customer has. Not only do they believe things like that, but he also thought the world revolved around apple and that 5G service would only be available when they came out with the iPhone5. :lol:

After a few minutes of watching that unfold, I had to split. The Verizon guy gave me the look like he wanted out too.
