Anyone going to get a screen protector?

Now, I usually don't like screen protectors, but my last phone got scratched (and I have no idea how), so I'll be putting one on the nexus.

Be sure to get the "crystal clear" protectors, as all the other ones take away from the screen quality. Ebay usually has the crystal clear ones for a few bucks. I'm actually surprised there aren't any on ebay yet (since the screen size/dimensions are already known).

Is that a specific brand name or just a marketing feature?

Not a brand name. There are clear ones, mirror ones, and anti glare ones. Don't get anything besides the clear (sometimes called crystal clear...same thing), if you care about how the screen looks.

I've owned many phones, and purchased MANY screen protectors (with the exception for my last phone, which got scratched). There are ones on ebay that are like $3 for 5 of them, and they are exactly the same as the $15-$20 ones you buy elsewhere (in fact, the ebay ones are better....a lot of these expensive ones have a blurry effect and look like crap, ebay ones are crystal clear).

I know what to look for in a screen protector, so as soon as they pop up on ebay, I'll be sure to post which ones to get!

I agree with you in principal, but the fact is, most don't care about a locked bootloader or root. And they don't want to know. They just want something out of the box, plug it in and work.

We are a very, very small (albeit vocal) community.

Very true. What I'd hope for people to think about is if the company is doing what is best for you or what is best for them.

The locked bootloader isn't all it's about (and those of us with the want and will can get around it). Forced unremovable bloatware, delayed updates or OTA updates with hidden carrier modifications, what does the future hold for you?

All this is really directed at those on the fence about what to get. The purchase you make on or about the 17th, may influence the status of the next (if there IS a next) Nexus device.

I tried one with the Eris then the Inc. They both barely lasted a day. They were Steinheil (sp?) and I tried another brand I forget the name. So nope I go neck-ed I dig the bare glass feel and I treat my screens very well.

Steinheil Crystal.

All this Verizon confirmed date and everything is getting me depressed. When is AT&T gonna get some love? I dont understand how Google/Samsung (mostly google) wants to restrict their pure/awesome/developer/"world"/awesome/ICS to JUST Verizon in US. From an economic and Android development perspective it just doesn't seem right. Its kind of contradictory to have Android's flagship phone be carrier exclusive. Right?

Shaaaaadaaap! :) You got the darned SGII dincha!

We didn't get any of that love. We got better I hope, so I hope you get it too, because if you don't you'll get something better eh?

Yeah I realize that AT&T got the other ones. What I'm saying is that I think that every carrier should all get the newest Google phone. And the reason why I don't want the GSII or even GSII Skyrocket is because I just want the pure google phone with the newest software always and no bloatware.

Are you in Atlanta? Could you switch carriers? Verizons coverage is leaps and bounds better than ATT here in the ATL imo

I hear you but that's the business. Pure and simple. They compete, cheat, jostle, and take our cash.

Fans on both sides have uber-strong opinions - here's mine. :)

I am hard pressed to see anyone losing out with either choice.
Could not agree more.

Real test is when they get into the consumers hands though. Will they hold up in the real world...

Very cool they are releasing right around the same time. We can all share info. Hopefully both launches go off without a hitch. It aint over yet kiddies :)

Yeah I'm in ATL but I'm grandfathered into a ATT unlimited plan which is nice. Plus, ATT is getting LTE here which hopefully be awesome. Supposedly, its "true" LTE which is better, so I'd like to stick around with them. Its just annoying because I'm stuck with an iPhone 3G now.

I hear you but I don't feel sorry for AT&T folks. They got both SGSII and LTE SGSII that verizon passed on. Though not Google phone, those phones will get ICS too.

I understand why you want to stay with the death star, but why don't you import an SGN? The way I see it, having the phone be exclusive right now on Verizon doesn't really hurt Google. I am sure they know a determined enthusiast will import or figure out a way to get one. I think it is genius really. They have at& t/t-mobile people covered with the gsm world version that can be imported, and the USA largest carrier with Verizon's version. Plus, if you really want one, and a vacation, go to Canada and buy one there. It is a win for you either way.

Now I understand not everyone can do this. I just see what their thinking was. The curious thing to me about it all is it leaves sprint sol! I really thought they have formed a better relationship lately. It shows it's all business first though. Money talks, and....

Yeah I agree. It makes sense, and its definitely possible for me to get one, just not convenient. I'm eligible for an upgrade so I guess I could always buy an iPhone and sell it and get a Nexus. Still, just not ideal. I love google and just wish the whole 'everything open, free, accessible to anyone' rang true in terms of phones. It seems like consumers and technology evolution has always been more important to google than greedy corps, I just wish it were true in terms of carrier exclusivity.

As a consumer, I couldn't agree more.

I understand...well the part about sticking with ATT because of your unlimited grandfathered plan.

Does VZW not have "true" LTE? I had a bionic for 2 weeks and my speeds here over that time averaged 25-30Mbps down 14-18Mbps up and 35-50ms pings...I was thrilled! How good will "true" LTE be?

Honestly, I think the iPhone is a really nice phone and your 3G is much faster than VZW's

You do have the options talked about above though...maybe somewhat a pain to do, but feasible. C'mon fess up your happy for all of us no? :D

Finally VZW is getting the top Android devices it's been long overdue

That mystery spec tweak last week? 1850 mAh battery. Don't ask me how I know, but I do. :D

OP Updated with new battery spec here.

I thought you were going to bed? ;-)

I am glad to hear the news today hasn't stopped. Before I hear anything bad that dashes my dreams, I am going to sleep! Thinking of finally connecting with my dream girl on the. 17th! :-)
