***Official Galaxy Nexus Pre-Release speculation thread**

Everyone should remember that Nexus devices are only cutting edge for a short time, if at all. There are rounds of phones announced or coming out shortly that honesly will be better.

Nexus has always been about the vanilla experience and updates from Google, plus very friendly developers phones. This is what you should consider if you are thinking about jumping ship. Make the choice for what suits you best.

but it also seems like there's nothing better to get right now even if you don't care about vanilla or updates.

LOL check your cats!

No worries... it's right here!

I wouldn't put to much stock in Quadrant but that is pretty darn low for a new device.

Stock my phone scored 2400 in Quadrant. Rooted, it dropped to 2200, and when I overclocked from 1.2 to 1.5 GHz with one particular rom/kernel combo, it dropped to about 750. No, I didn't forget a one - 750, and yet all of the decent benchmarks tracked the increase and correlated to the apps I was running.

It's completely useless. Period.

Friends don't let friends use Quadrant on dual core devices.

It's irrational.

I think you are going to make 25k before the phone launches.

what would be awesome is to have your 25k post be the 25k post in this thread

That would be nice, but I don't see how that's going to work. I'm going to hit 25k well before the thread will.

all you have to do is get teh 25k post in this thread. Then nuke some of your earlier posts in other threads...;)

Not sure if this video has been posted, but really like how Serenity looked playing on the phone.

Also, in the comments they state the phone is coming out on Nov 17th in the UK within the last day. So a bit of a ray of hope as well.

Does the netflix app stream in 720p?

Not sure, I've wondered the same thing, too. I believe at the RAZR announcement, Jha said that the RAZR would be the first to stream Netflix HD. You would think that the G-Nex, which actually has an HD screen, would be able to, but I'm also not sure re: security. Rather than releasing their app to the general Android public, Netflix has gone about with limited releases supposedly because of DRM-piracy concerns. Given the Nexus may be the most unlocked device, they may choose to not enable HD streaming at first. Just a thought, but truthfully I don't know.

They OG Droid has Netflix streaming though and it is a pretty popular phone to root.

How come the SGN is 0.5 inches longer than the tmobile sGS2 and the display is barely bigger EVEN THOUGH the SGN has the software buttons? Cmon sammy you could've done better

Yes, but it wasn't the first to get official support. And I'm not saying Netflix held their services back from the OG strictly because it is easier to root, but as I recall, Netflix first launched on a specific chip because it enabled certain DRM privileges, and Netflix has progressively expanded to supporting more devices. The way that Jha presented HD streaming, it was like it was something special (not bandwidth or processor speed related), but like Netflix was enabling THAT PHONE to stream HD content. I don't know what their decision tree is, but if piracy continues to be one of their concerns, the RAZR is a locked fort and the G-Nex will be the opposite.

Actually had to work today, so only checked the last two pages and didn't see it posted:
ASUS Transformer Prime Officially Announced – Full Specs and Pricing Revealed

Note "an Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich FOTA update will make its way to the tablet in early December."

So, please correct me if I'm wrong. But first the Nexus must be released, then Android 4.0 code is released, then other devices can run it. Correct?

So for those three things to happen in that order, in a timely fashion, we are looking at a November release for the GN. The only questions remains, I guess, is will VZW be included in that scenario? I say yes... and I say 11/21 web only and 11/28 in the stores. Come on baby... make it happen VZW!!!
