***Official Galaxy Nexus Pre-Release speculation thread**

Case in point... how many Bionics do you think they sold after releasing the RAZR? They'd probably have a hard time giving away Bionics for free right now. And that phone released 2 months ago. They took a bath on the Bionic and they are going to take a bath on the RAZR. Right now is all about decreasing the water in the bath tub as much as possible.

YES... but they have an investment in the RAZR. If nothing else, millions in advertising. How do they recover that investment if nobody will buy the phone?
I understand you point of view, I just don't necessarily agree with it.

Right now, the Bionic is listed as $249 vs the $299 of the RAZR, hardly sounds like a firesale. CSR's are pushing the Bionic hard, and if you do a search on Verizon's website, the Bionic comes up high in the "may we suggest" list. I'm sure they are selling them fine.

I also disagree your assertion that they "took a bath". Carriers make a commitment to sell, but are in no way responsible for overstock. Overstock get sent back to the manufacturer. Go look up how many Palm Pre's were returned, or that Windows messaging phone (forgot name).

Keep in mind that Google also has a vested interest in the RAZR, now that they've announced acquisition of Motorola Mobility, so your anger may be misplaced.

All I'm saying is that they picture is far more complicated than you make it out. There are contractural obligations that get met, but you are far oversimplifing the situation.

I think that the GNEX was supposed to be released earlier too. But wouldn't the RAZR have been DOA if that happened?

Good point and as it turns out, probably so. Once again, I think Verizon viewed this as the Nexi of the past...a niche developer's device for the most part. They were using history as their guide which is often a wise way to navigate the ship.

Problem is, this one is different. A lot different. I mean look at our thread here. And it's not just us, this thing has become huge to people around the globe. I think it was a miscalculation that they needed to mitigate to keep Moto as happy as possible. They were blindsided. All the release plans were made many moons ago, they just didn't forsee this being a problem then.

Yeah, the only indication that I've seen of any RAZR success has been Amazon. They're currently backordered for them right now.

Yep... selling the RAZR for $111 made sense. If VZW did that now, and released the GN for $300... they still might be able to sell the needed RAZR's. They were just hoping to sell the RAZR for 6 months at $300.

Galaxy Nexus up for pre-order at Future Shop on Monday | MobileSyrup.com

Read the public statement this company put out. Basically, this is all we're asking of VZW at this point. Just have some common sense; realize that there is a substantial customer base that is very interested in this phone for various reasons, and they are becoming very nervous/anxious because you haven't made any public statement since putting up your sign-up page.

All your loyal customers are asking for is that you to at least acknowledge we're here and waiting. Publicly-- not some CSR or email that reads "We're glad to hear your enthusiasm and share in your excitement for the Samsung Galaxy Nexus. Right now I have nothing to inform you about." I call a bit of BS on that. You do. You simply just don't want to.

Sweet Congrats!!!!

Okay I am sorry for the picture

Can I do a perma-ban for that picture?

Drats. :D

Ok, at least you were sorry.

VZW knew the specs on both phones. Are they so stupid or think the customer so stupid that they couldn't have made the connection between better specs = preferred product = more sales?

BB, I think your avatars are starting to elicit similar reactions to people finding a special Google logo on their page every now and then. :)

I agree completely... :D

On topic:

Unless I am wrong, no one here knows why VZW has not released the phone, we will all speculate, but i have to go back to one of OTD's posts... VZW is not being forced to carry this phone... they in fact did decline the N1... We all need to stay the course and support each other when they have moments of weakness....:)

OK.. enough of the touchy feelly... :p

What does the RAZR have going for it? Amoled and thinness. GN has a better amoled screen and almost as thin (or at least thin enough that nobody would care). The GN replaces the RAZR in every way with better specs. Any semi-intelligent person walks into store... puts the two devices together with appearance/specs and picks the GN 100% of the time. RAZR sales halt to ZERO when the GN is released.

...unless you run into a user who really wants an sd slot.

I thought you said you decided you were going to go the unsubsidized route so you didn't have to deal with another VZW contract?

I just don't get all the vitriol over this, it's like a kid crying over the fact that his parent's won't give him a present when he wants, even though they said he'd get it eventually.

A kid doesn't pay his parents and expect good customer service/PR skills. Everything he gets is a gift so yeah, crying about not getting a present makes him a spoiled brat.

Hell, if Verizon wants to give me free service for the next 2 years, I'll buy a RAZR right now.

And I said I was thinking about going unsubsidized, but it doesn't really add up financially, after thinking about it.

The annoying part is the being strung a long.

Exactly my point. Release it in mid-January for all I care. JUST TELL ME.

Darling Bride uses hers to (a) make calls twice a week and (b) keep dust out of the charging dock. I love her and all, but giving her anything other than a Jitterbug is a waste of technology ;)

Another husband passing the old phone to "the wife". Doesn't she deserve a Nexus, too, for everything she does for you?

Like Chief said she makes calls and texts. Even the DInc is a waste of good bytes. I'm actually giving it to her w/o even activating 3g if I can. :D WiFi at home and work is good enough.

You might be right. The only problem is, Razr sales can hardly stall any more than they already are. People have been saying that they've sold way less than they expected. So really, if they're going to try to get rid of some inventory, we might have to wait a long, long time...

I hear you, I thought about that as I typed it but I have not seen the actual sales figures so I'm unsure if it's just internet speculation or fact. Even if it's only a veiled attempt on Verizon's part, I think it shows Moto that big red has no plans to throw them under the bus.

For me it's NOT just this. I hate on Verizon and really MOST cellular providers any chance I get. They are all poorly run and horribly marketed companies that claim to be mostly service providers while always trying to sell their customers all sorts of nonsense that has nothing to do with the paid services they really want and need resulting in all sorts of waste that results in a much more costly service than it needs to be.

I've owned the D1, D2, D2G and D3 and I don't think I will buy another Motorola phone. I use the camera alot and I have been horribly disasppointed with the camera on the D3. It's slow and does not focus well, etc. The Nexus will be my first Samsung smartphone. What did it for me was the camera on the Nexus. It looks f'ing awesome. I could not, would not, buy the RAZR. It's the Nexus for me. Good things come to those who wait!!

I'm in the same boat as you, i had the D1, DX, and D3 (motorola wise) and the D3 has by far been the worst camera i've ever used. You can NOT and will NOT ever get a perfect picture, especially since it takes 10 seconds to take the shot. I did own the Droid Charge (samsung) for about a month and a half (got it at costco so i had 90 days) while waiting for the D3/or Bionic(fiasco) and i'll tell you, the camera on the Charge was fantastic, i loved it. and the screen on the charge (even though it was only 800 x 480) blows the D3 screen out of the water. the vibrancy that it provides is incredible. I can NOT WAIT FOR THE SGN!!!! please dear god, i will give you my first born if i can get an SGN tomorrow!.....oh god, i think its time for me to step awaaaaaayyyy from the SGN thread....lol

Just noticed this post by PCWORLD/ComputerWorld writer, JR Raphael, on Google+.

Says there is another surprise at the Google Music event.

https://plus.google.com/u/0/108233028875375016776/posts/RkkaScu6U2i

Yeah I saw that too...

"Then there's the fact that today's Android event appears to involve T-Mobile. Google's original invitation shows a building with the T-Mobile logo printed on its side; T-Mobile later followed up with an invitation of its own touting an after-party that'll let everyone "experience the world of T-Mobile and Google." T-Mobile, as you know, has partnered with Google on Nexus device launches in the past."

At this rate T-Mobile will release the Nexus before Verizon! And Google can tell Verizon to shove it because they gave them a month to release it first. If that happens I'm switching to ATT and getting an iPhone. :-p

New plan: Food Bribery. Let's send them Pumpple.
Pie Cake -- Meet the Pumpple Cake ... and All 1,800 of Its Calories

Oh, good. We weren't sure exactly how we were going to gain those 10 holiday pounds this year, and we hate uncertainty. It's a good thing we found out about the pumpple cake.

Despite its suggestive-sounding name, the pumpple cake will not give you lip sores, just a wicked case of the night bloats. Each slice packs 1,800 calories, (although, to be fair, you're supposed to share it with three other people). At the same time, who shares a slice of cake with anyone? We prefer wielding a steak knife and guarding ours suspiciously.

The pumpple cake is pumpkin pie and apple pie baked into chocolate and vanilla cake, respectively. The whole thing is then stuck together with a metric butt-ton of buttercream frosting. You know, because when you're eating pies baked into cake you gotta have some buttercream.

The pumpple cake is made by the Flying Monkey Patisserie in Philadelphia, and although we've never tried their pumpple cake, we can tell you their pecan bars and brownies are freakin' amazing. If you live in the area you can order a pumpple cake with 72 hours' advance notice, but be warned: The whole thing weighs 15 pounds and will make you feel very guilty the next day.

Maybe Verizon will let Google announce today with the thinking that if Google makes the announcement, it looks like they were the one's who delayed it. Maybe not, but i'm trying to look at the world with a glass half full perspective.

I hope google did tell Verizon to piss off and Tmobile will have the nexus before Verizon. That would serve them right and they deserve to lose potential customers for delaying this phone.

VZW knew the specs on both phones. Are they so stupid or think the customer so stupid that they couldn't have made the connection between better specs = preferred product = more sales?

Maybe. I mean other than ICS, the specs really aren't that different. If anything, the Razr has a more marketable camera in most average user's eyes due to the higher mp.

The fact is, the Nexus phones of the past have also been killer performers. But they just haven't sold in flagship type quantities. This one will, and they weren't feeling it during the early stages. Just my guess, hell idk. It's all speculation but I can't come up with any other reasons so I'm viewing this as an Occam's razr(<---see how I did that) conclusion.
