Hello everyone, just wanted to say thanks for this thread, its came in very handy, but have a problem. I'm not able to authenticate with Google Talk any longer also, I'm having problems with downloading app from the market. I can access my gmail account and sync without any problems. Has anyone else run into this issue?

Thanks in Advance.

I'm having similar problems as the people in the last two treads, dseelman and Iced36. I get some kind of message saying Google Talk can't authenticate.

My phone did the freezing like dseelman describes. I took the battery out to restart the phone. The super user app is in the app list. But I tried downloading and installing Titanium Backup and it will not show. It does say that it is installed in the market place window.

Rooting on prevail has not worked out for me. (android GB on Galaxy Prevail)
Followed all directions. After running 'root.bat' phone goes through a reboot. when it comes back it vibrates long and short bursts every 10sec or so. did it for half an hour.... so I reboot it and still works fine. Loaded Titanium backup to remove bloat ware. After first reboot an icon with android bot and a warning sign displays for a few seconds, the progress bar is less than 10%, then it goes into second reboot. The bloatware I attempted to remove is still present.
Anybody have any idea???

OK, never mind. Got it to work!
While it's sitting there buzzing I ran "root" again. It did some rebooting and now Ti works and I have freed my phone from dictatorship :)

I am running the 2.3.5 GB. I put it into debugging mode and everything and followed the directions. When I try to run the batch file it says:

* daemon not running. starting it now *
* daemon started successfully *
Getting temp root
error: device not found
error: device not found
error: device not found
error: device not found
error: device not found

Please HELP?!?!?!?!
Is there anything that would be obvious to someone whos done this before that I should know? (I havent ever done this)

I am having the same issue as forview and undesiredone13. Is this the error you get when you try to root when you have gb? Should I go back to stock and try again? Or is this issue do to something else I'm missing?

Thank you for listening to my noobieness

try rebooting your phone and clicking the bat file while the samsung logo is on the screen.

Its still doing the same thing. theres 3 screens where it says samsung, I tried all of them and its still not working.

Open task manager and kill all running instances of ADB.exe
then try again.

If that still doesnt work, try rebooting your computer. keep your phone disconnected from your computer when you do. also reboot your phone, make sure debugging is turned on when it reboots, and remove your sdcard.

then try again

Still no luck.... anything else I can try? there isnt any special program I need or anything is there?

no.. i havent downloaded any drivers, do i need to? If I do could you post a link to it?

Thanks

sure, over in the Odin thread there is this:

DOWNLOAD EE14 ROOTED VERSION WITH CWM AND HROARKERNEL
MEGAUPLOAD - The leading online storage and file delivery service

inside that zip is a file called: SAMSUNG_USB_Driver_for_Mobile_Phones_x86.exe

that's the file you need

I think you want to install it with the phone disconnected, but I'm not sure

Ok so I followed the instructions word for word twice now and nothing. Everything seemed liked it was going good but nothing has changed. It said "deleting all yo shit" but nothing was, also I thought rooting your phone allowed you to uninstall some of the dumb preinstalled Apps and I cant. What is this busybox thing? Do I need it? If so maybe that should b in the instructions instead of profit. Also I'm haveing sameproblem as morlanda except. Don't have the Droid icon and I'm a newbie so idk what bloatware is but I don't think I have it.

I used the root.bat file and got my phone rooted. Titanium Backup is now opening for me, but I couldn't figure out how to use it. It would not allow me to batch. So, I tried going into manage applications and deleting them or moving them to my SD Card. Those options were not allowed. How can I get rid of Hookt, Layar, etc.?

you usually have to get the /system directory remounted in Read/Write mode.
Not sure if or how to do that with Titanium. I don't use it, don't like it

Just flashed back to EE14 after troubles with OTA update to GB. After rooting on EE14, my phone no longer vibrates.. Rooted on first try but now it literally won't vibrate at all. Re-flashing my phone from Odin's EE14 image to the GB stock image since the OTA update still refuses to work.

I just wondered what exactly you lose if you use this root?

Nothing is listed.

Phone contacts/numbers etc....

I can live to lose everything but my contacts manually entering 500+ names and numbers is just not how I like to spend my off time.

Also, if you do lose contacts is there a good way to backup/save them before and then reload them to the phone?

you wont loose anything rooting with this so you should be just fine .. as for your contacts though they should be sync'd up with google so you won't have to redo them all if you ever did loose

Thanks a lot was really apprehensive of using this because I was afraid of losing everything.

I only made a google account for my phone not used for anything other than that guess I should start to use it even if just for the sync.

To use Titanium Backup:
First make sure you enable Unknown Sources (settings/ applications/ Unknown sources checkbox) and USB Debugging (settings/ applications/ development/ USB Debugging Checkbox). Not sure why it needs USB debugging, but it will bug you if you dont.
In Titanium Backup select the Backup/Restore tab. Inside that tab scroll to the apps you want to uninstall, and short press (tap) them. A small box menu will appear, select uninstall, and confirm. Be Very Careful wich appst you uninstall as some are necessary for your phone to funtion correctly. Something I unistalled from the safe to uninstall list http://wiki.sdx-developers.com/index.php/Safe_Apps_to_Remove caused my music player to bug out and FC. Also it seems to me that telenav is necessary for gps to lock properly.I uninstalled some from the list, and If you long press a more advanced menu will appear...I dont recommend you use this.
Also, in the Backup/Restore tab use the phones menu button to open a menu that includes Batch. Select Batch and a menu of Backup and Restore options will appear. Use this to do batch operations, much faster than 1 at a time inside the tab. Also for moving your Apps to your sd I'd suggest http://androidforums.com/galaxy-pre...d-prevail-updated-11-18-11-a.html#post3193776 Hope that helps.

I have never had a .bat file work properly for me, hit and a miss, on a Huawei M835...it was pure luck.

What Drivers/Files do I need before attempting this? I'm planning to root a co-worker's phone and with 30 minute lunch break...don't want to take any risks of having the phone freeze up/fail. Can't I just install GB 1.20 *Or newest if out there* and use that, or is the Prevails makeup different?

I've trying about everyway to get my phone to root, can someone explain it to me in detail what exactly to do?I've been going nuts for about a week now trying all this shit out lol, please someone let me know how to get this done

ok guys and gals
I am new to the android and have some basic questions. maybe I ca get some straight answers.

1. I have tried to root the phone (samsung galaxy prevail) (boost)
the program (z4root) I used made the phone vibrate when it was just sitting there.

2.when i plug it into my computer and open the file system, How do I know where the SD card is? how is it listed?
can i transfer most of the phone stuff to it? I always get a message, Phone memory almost full. have a 4 gig sdcard.

thanks in advance
