***Official Galaxy Nexus Pre-Release speculation thread**

I am going to ATT today to talk to them about prices for their plans. I truly hate Verizon with a passion now. I will make every effort to make sure people know about their tactics and ways. I will do what ever I can to make sure people do not buy from them. This is beyond dispicable.

I want a Nexus that gets it's updates directly from google and does not have to go through Verizon so they can fumble it around a fark it up. I want a 32gb Nexus for $299 just like all of the other 32gb smartphones that Verizon is offering. Yes Verizon is doing everything in their power to kill this phone. But what they are killing is a portion of their customer base who has a lot of influence due to their knowledge of these devices. Others seek their advice and with this bridge burnt will no longer recommend Verizon.

A very very sad day indeed. I can live without your LTE and your grandfathered unlimited data. Because in the end I will not be held captive by a company who will not listen to their customers and but only to their greed.

Guys, Flash isn't that big of a deal. The only thing it's somewhat useful for is ads, because YouTube uses HTML5 now.

BTW I was being sarcastic with the "somewhat useful for ads" thing :P

I'm thinking that pretty soon we'll be saying:

* Flash isn't that important
* 16 gigs isn't too bad
* Cycling volume can be dealt with
* No SD capability is OK

Anyone seeing a trend here?

ICS USB hosting... yup, i'd take 16gb. Only thing I would keep on my mobile device would be applications. All my photos and videos sync immediately to G+. All my music is in the cloud. I'll put my movies on some form of usb storage because the only time I'll be watching movies with the device would possibly be on a plane.

I would by a 16Gb at $199 and a 32Gb at $299.

PS - Ben & Jerrys Late Night Snack ice cream is really really good IMHO (I had it last night after shopping)

This guy might disagree...

I can't believe I will ever get that far...

Okay, looks like the "threat" isn't being well received. I'll fix it and repost.

One aside. I know this might brand me as a hypocrite or as a flake, but I don't think I can send one with my real name. My sister works at Verizon, and I know for a fact that some of her coworkers (which involve corporate types) know my full name.

I can't jeopardize her.

But I can send one with a fake name!

Perhaps Steven Deuce?

any thoughts from you guys on this? I know some have vowed to stick it out, but I know some are thinking of alternate plans.

The rezound seems to be a great phone, and I would have a chance to upgrade again early next year. (of course that would be the case if wait for the nexus too)

Does anyone want to talk me off the ledge? Or perhaps some wants to grab my hand and jump with me. Or maybe sombody might just give me a swift push from behind...

Honestly Puchkey, the Rezound is a great phone. I've "rented" one for the time being and I love everything about it, the weight, the speed and even the looks (albeit a little dated). I'm waiting for Monday and if we get at least a preorder, I'll stay the course and get the GNex. That's where I stand right now.

I for one don't think it will be a 16gb, I'm sticking to 32. But if it is 16gb I wouldn't be surprised to see $199 to match the iPhone.

You're right. The "in" should be dropped. I'll fix it.

As for the return policy, it looks solid to me, and the VP told me I would have the entire extended period to exchange my activated device for a different phone.

BUT, if anyone is going to do it, I would strongly suggest asking specifically at the store and then have them note it on your account. Just in case.

Playing the devil's advocate... From the Customer Agreement:
You can't rely on any other documents, or on what's said by any sales or customer service representatives, and you have no other rights regarding Service or this agreement.

To Whom it May Concern:

My name is ******* and I am speaking on behalf of thousands of members of android forums from multiple popular internet sites, as well as countless other Verizon customers and future Galaxy Nexus-owners.

We were very excited to see the official unveiling of the Samsung Galaxy Nexus in Hong Kong back in October. We were even more thrilled when it was announced that it would be releasing in the United States in “November”. Given the fact that Verizon Wireless has an exclusive right to release the Galaxy Nexus, it was an obvious reference to the fact that we could expect you to make it available during this current month.

Our excitement has, unfortunately, given way to grave disappointment as we see that you have failed to communicate any information regarding a release, other than a simple announcement that you would be carrying it “later this year”. According to a poll on Droid-Life.com (Monday Poll: Now That All Three Have Been Announced – Galaxy Nexus, Rezound, or RAZR? – Droid Life: A Droid Community Blog), over 10,000 customers are eagerly anticipating the Galaxy Nexus (71%) but have received no further indication from Verizon to give them reason to do so.

According to many of our sources (some of which are employed by Verizon and Google), the Motorola DROID RAZR and HTC Rezound are not selling as well as previously hoped, even with the implementation of a “Double Data” program. Those countless individuals among us who are waiting for the Galaxy Nexus feel that we are unfairly being withheld a release date in order for Verizon to sell more of these other devices (this is according to our sources within your company). There are also rumors that the principal reason you are withholding a release date is so that you can work out certain technical difficulties with your own Verizon-branded applications, which we feel smacks of corporate arrogance.

A troubling fact is that we have confirmed that many of us are seriously contemplating simply buying a RAZR or a Rezound with the full intention of returning it once the Galaxy Nexus is made available. Most of us have refrained from acting out on those thoughts out of respect for Verizon, but that respect is rapidly dwindling in the face of your lack of communication. “Renting” those devices, as we refer to it, would only incur additional costs for your company and the loss of the ability to sell those refurbished devices as “new”.

Another reason we feel that your lack of communication is ultimately hurting your company is because many Verizon customers are very seriously considering leaving the carrier (or already have) for another, more open carrier such as AT&T (whose LTE service is spreading out in ever more greater areas). As much as I, and plenty of others, love Verizon, we are growing extremely frustrated with being kept out of the loop on even a simple announcement of a release date, especially when we see so many other areas of the world (UK, Canada, Asia, etc.) get either an announcement of a pre-order date, or the device itself.

Given the above, I respectfully but firmly request that we receive a confirmed release date from Verizon, so as to relieve the extreme stress in the community. Our stress levels have garnered internet blog attention, along with all of the advertising potential that entails, but it will certainly soon grow into a hotbed of rants and negative comments, which will ultimately reflect poorly on your company’s lack of communication.

Please give us some information.

I'm very concerned that, as a result of the lack of communication, many of us will soon begin to implement the “rental program” regarding your other devices, and many others will leave Verizon in droves for other, more open carriers (many of which also offer similar service at much lower prices).

Thank you for your attention and time.

Sincerely,

***************
The threat is still subtly there, but in a "mafioso" kind of way.

Got another note from my friend that works at VZW. He played with a GNex last week when a Samsung rep stopped by his store. No new info, but his impressions of the GNex are very positive:

The screen is amazing, don't pay attention to the guys saying it must be crap bc it pentile. Extremely high pixel density and very vivid. ICS is badass. Night and day from GB. Think more along the lines of honeycomb for phones instead of tablets. That face unlock is so fast and accurate too.....love that feature. The folders and scrolling widgets (like on tablets) are really slick too. I can't wait for this thing. My thunderbolt doesn't even seem fun to use anymore lol

Also, for those of you who missed it, he confirmed in an earlier message that the LTE GNex he played with last week was a 32GB model, fwiw.

Keep us updated. It wuld be nice to know if we have a valid alternative or not.

in the meantime what are your thought on
1. size
2. weight
3. Sense 3.5

size is nice, fits my hand perfectly and is very comfortable.

weight is not too bad either, heavier than the bionic, lighter than the thunderbolt. texture on the back is very nice also
sense 3.5 is by far the best android overlay I have seen from ANY manufacturer.

and so far, 48 hours in, the battery life is nothing short of phenomenal, especially for 1620 MaH!!

one edit...

Should this say... "result in"? I'm an engineer, so, grammar isn't my forte, but, just doesn't read smoothly to me. Maybe drop the "in"?

Yes, the "in" needs dropped. There are a couple of other unecessary words that could be removed to make the composition more concise, as well.

Ok, now I'm really going to feed the horses.

Once the decision is made to email it (it's still subject to further revisions as you guys see fit), send me a PM and I'll send you a copy of the relevant corporate email addresses.
