***Official Galaxy Nexus Pre-Release speculation thread**

I played with the ReHound. It was nice but I would end up rooting it for CM7, then later CM9. I have done this with my DInc 2, so I see no point. That said, I love HTC phone when running AOSP. Battery life is not an issue with CM7. NEXUS PLEASE!

I loved MIUI. Spent the last 7 or 8 months on it consistently. which was the longest I ever stayed on a ROM since I rooted my Eris 2 years ago haha. But the Rezound, with no ability to root, wouldn't be my cup of tea and I know it.

Ok, since I dont know how Samsung work as a phone as compared to the way moto works as a phone, I have established a plan A and plan B.

Plan A - I hope the SGN works well as a phone first, as compared to how Moto has worked for me for a long time. I like the whole concept of the SGN and if it lioves up to 90% of it's hype, it will be a great phone.

Plan B - If the SGN does not work as a phone as well as the Motos I am used to, I will get the razor since working as a phone is reported to be one of it's strengths, as I would expect. The downside being no replaceable battery.

With either phone, I am going to acquire an external charging battery pack.

vzw will have one that is 1850mah, I think, for $50

Monoprice has 2, both are out of stock right now.
The smaller one is 2600 mah for $16.12. A couple of these will handle all my power needs that I use 5 batteries for with my D2 now.

The larger is 7800mah for $41.16. Designed to charge 2 devices at once, and even larger devices like ipads and tablets. One of these is more than enough.

So, how the SGN works as a phone, will determine my final decision.

Again, if anyone can give me their opinion as to how Samsung and HTC compare to Moto, as phones first, I would greatly appreciate it.

In re: 16 gig vs. 32 gig.
The word from the Sammy dude is the engineering models are 16 gig, the VZW production models will have 32 gig. Or to quote:

"Wrongengineering units are 16Gb, VZW will only have 32Gb version from what I'm told as of this am. & P3 posted it has USB mass"

this doesnt address Google's own Galaxy Nexus spec page that shows the LTE version as 16 GB only

I think I am lucky. I had (have somewhere around here) a Storm. It wa
s great until they released the Droid X. My fiance has a Thunderbolt, and it is an awesome phone. No issues, and while it took forever to get ota Gingerbread, she loves it. It is pretty smooth, crazy fast internet on 4g lte, and Sense is awesome. Also, I still have my original launch day X, no issues except after I rooted it my contacts keep crashing. I installed a free contacts app from the market and I'm good to go. It still looks and works like new.
Am I a lucky guy, or just easy going?

I think a little of both.

Reports are that the radios work decent. Call quality is not at moto level, but overall acceptable. GPS performance is close to on par.

Moto is the gold standard for call quality, that's for sure.

Tough crowd.

Just because they've launched a bunch of phones with issues doesn't mean they want to continue doing that. Anyone ever consider that?

And did anyone consider that Google is partially in the mix here too, either due to software issues, or from the fact that they are refusing to let Verizon launch a device with issues, because thier reputation is really on the line.

BMX himself stated that part of the issue was Google related. I don't trust him for Verizon info, but I do for Google info.

Agreed, But the problem maybe just Verizon. VZW is having problems with their apps working on ICS. It is not Googles problem to fix VZW apps to work on ICS.

I agree. With most of our storage intensive stuff remaining in the cloud there is little need to have a lot of resident data on the phone. Our docs, pics, music are for the most part in the cloud. I don't see it as that big of a deal.

I'm far behind on the thread right now and this line of thinking is all well and good but for those people (me included) who do not already have unlimited data it just doesn't work in a practical way. If the plan is to put everything in the cloud I am completely fine with that, but not when there is a simultaneous trend in the industry to restrict data. One or the other, but those two things don't go together.

If they want to give me an 8-16gb internal storage device, cloud storage and unlimited data then great but for those people without unlimited data this trend is going to completely screw them.

I took my wife shopping today it was great getting away from the forum I must admit.

I told her "hey babe it's your day lets go out and buy you some stuff!" So we did it was nice.

I played with the Razr and the Rezound thoroughly, again. The more I played with them the more I realized what an AOSP fan I have become. Add to that my love for AMOLED. So the GN is all about 720 amoled, ICS, and vanilla for me and that is what I'm waiting for.

And today the UK page was updated to show only 16GB as well. My own opinion is that someone updated something they shouldn't have.

I'm confident there will be a 32GB option on Verizon.

Agreed, But the problem maybe just Verizon. VZW is having problems with their apps working on ICS. It is not Googles problem to fix VZW apps to work on ICS.

None of that is fully confirmed. That may be only part of the story. BMX stated that both parties are at fault, which is about as credible as any other rumor or leak around here.

Holy Smokes.......

Everyone should just relax and settle down. The December 8th release date has been in place for at least 4 weeks now so sending letters and stomping your feet on twitter and FB isn't going to change a darn thing.

You guys are looking at the earliest a December 8th release. Yes that's right it could go OVER a few days.

It's a phone. Move on with your lives. It's coming in a few weeks. You've wasted hours and hours of your life on this thread and will never get that time back. Go out and live life and you will see that in the grand scheme of things this is meaningless. Go out and have fun for crying out loud. It will give you a whole new perspective on what is important in life and I can assure you a phone is not even on that list.

Get outta here and live!!!!!!!! :)

Wow, THANKS! Hi Pot, my name is Kettle...nice to meet you.

To be clear, I wasn't saying cut back on the OT posts and keep this thread on topic. I was saying let's try to cut back on the posts that are obviously there only to encourage others to post superfluously.. just to bump the # of replies for these milestones.

Post OT all you want, just wanted people to remember this isn't the "Let's count to a million!" thread.

:)

Even you have to admit that a thread with a million posts would be epic though. :D

Must not have been much work to catch up on :p

I got started...my son is finishing, lol. I had important other things to do!

And as you can see, we have a ways to go...

Lol.

CK made his choice for the RAZR, is happy about it, and we should all support him. Not just for his choice, but also for a lot of effort and enthusiasm, and even more reality checks :D early on in this thread. He was one of us from the beginning.

I honestly believe he was coming in here for some words of encouragement, not to gloat. So we should keep the tone friendly.

I read it as good natured ribbing in a friendly tone. Just my $0.02

Ok guys. I've been thinking about the whole Verizon being tight lipped about release date and the 16gb vs 32gb thing logically and here are some thoughts as to why we may have the blame directed entirely in the wrong direction..... as much as I hate Verizon it may actually not be their fault.

Do you guys really think Verizon is just sitting on a stock pile of these phones and they aren't saying anything about them to sell other devices (that yield the same contract dollars) while pissing us off? I don't think so. If the phones are done and plentiful, why is the UK having issues with them not being availible until december 1st and no sight of a 32gb model (pre-order only)

Google Samsung Galaxy Nexus 32GB (Black) Deals, #GALNEXUS32 - Expansys.com UK
notice this site has the 16gb only availible on December 1st and the 32gb model with no release date.

I think Verizon chose to only offer the 32gb model (which is a good thing) and Google/Samsung for some reason is only producing the 16gb model right now and Verizon is still waiting for the 32gb stock to come in and the hold up is on Google/Samsungs end. Verizon refuses to give a launch date because they dont have one!! they still have not received their stock and don't want to give a date they can't hit. All the while, google/samsung are laughing their ass off while we direct our anger at Verizon while the real problem is probably with google/samsung.

would explain why the developer models were only 16gb, if what p3droid is true and the developer LTE devices are 16gb.

I feel we need to start directing our agravation towards Google/Samsung.

You work for VZW! :p

nanh you make a good point thanks for sharing it.

Absolutely. I wasn't trying to single anyone out. But there were some other posts I saw that weren't as nice.

Still, just want to nip it in the bud, so to speak. We're all friends here.

Except for that Stephen59. Robots have no emotions. :D

Just curious where are you getting thousands? This is not a iPhone release ;)

You honestly don't think that there are thousands of people wanting to buy the SGN on Verizon?

So this is a gross overestimate of what they expect to sell?

yes_verizon_has_plenty_of_galaxy_nexus_units_on_order_rogers_opens_pre_orders.jpg

I would think that most of those, if not at least half (which would be more than 60,000) will be bought by those beginning new contracts.

And that order number is not a national order; it's regional.

I think that Verizon stands to lose a lot of money if they don't release this phone before the end of the year. (I'm 100% certain that it will be out before the end of the year, BTW.)
