***Official Galaxy Nexus Pre-Release speculation thread**

I am personally not "renting" an R-phone because I have no faith in Verizon to release Nexus before the "rental" period ends... sticking me with it for 2 years.

My 0.02

I'm surprised more people aren't saying this. Worst case scenario is the GN isn't released until late Jan (or later). So its a personal decision that IF the GN isn't released until after the holiday return period, would you rather have an R-phone (I like that naming convention) for these 2+ months and miss out on the GN for the next 2 years, or would you rather put up with your current dieing phone for the next 2+ months and get the GN.....I'm not sure what I want yet.

**note**I have no sources and haven't talked to anyone regarding a release of the GN so far away, I'm simply stating a hypothetical horrible case scenario.

Part of me is starting to wonder if bugs are in fact the reason for Verizon not making an announcement.

This XDA thread (that others have been posting) has me worried: Honest review from a critical nerd (me) - xda-developers

I know this is the UK Nexus, but if you go to page 13, the person who did the initial review wrote:

That seems like a pretty big issue to me. I don't know how wide spread this is (I haven't seen anyone else talking about it), but I could see Verizon demanding this get fixed before the Nexus is released.

As others have mentioned, these are different versions of the phone. If it isn't occurring in Verizon's testing, there wouldn't be anything for them to demand to be fixed. Has anyone heard of this problem on the Verizon version?

This has been my stance all along. I don't trust that there won't be an issue preventing me from returning the R-phone, and I'm not willing to chance missing out on the Gnex because I wasn't patient. Besides...I waited 6 1/2 years for my husband to be ready to get married...If I can do that, I can wait out this phone release. (And for the record, yes, it was worth the wait, just like this phone will be.:))

I have not heard any reports of this happening on the Verizon version, but it begs the question as to whether or not there is an actual problem.

(Note: I am in no way trying to defend Verizon here. I am really hoping that we still hear something later today.)

No but there are only testers out right now. Being a pure Google phone, the software should be nearly identical with the exception of integrating the radios, and when it's actually released in mass like the UK, issues will crop up

That's a good story BTW.

Tough call. There are 2 sides. For those with a dying phone I know what I'd do...go get a new feature phone or activate an old phone just to tide me over until the phone I want comes out. Or you could go for one of the "R's", confirm on paper what your return policy is, and go from there. Who knows you might end up liking one of the "R's". Several here have. A dilemma indeed!

Yes, but as others have mentioned about the volume issue, the difference in the versions can very well affect the software. I'm just not going to automatically assume a problem on one version = a problem on others.

If the Double Data plan went through Jan, I would definitely wait. But, Id rather get stuck with an R-phone with 4gb plan, then a Gnex with 2gb...

I just wanted to comment on the double data plan.

I found this thread over a month ago and have been following it daily. I really appreciate all the information this forum has provided!

I've been on the same Samsung V-cast flip phone since April 2006, so I'm a bit overdue for an upgrade.

Since I've never had a smartphone, I'm hoping to lock into the double data plan. I just called Verizon and explained that as soon as the Nexus is released I will be adding a data plan.

The Verizon representative I just spoke with told me the double data plan will go until January 15, so hopefully that date is accurate and I can be a little more patient waiting for this phone.

My position as well. I am holding out for the principle of a phone free of bloatware and updates directly from the OS manufacturer. Sure, the hardware will be outdated in short order, but even with all the new fancy quad core phones that 2012 will introduce, they will still have unnecessary "skins", etc. And who knows, this could be our one shot on Verizon to get a phone like this.

No official announcement coming from Verizon this week guys. Expect an official announcement 12/1.

You're welcome.

What I'm saying is when you release the phone in the thousands and we are all itching for the slightest bit of news, you notice these things. With only a select number of people testing the vzw version and working under NDAs, they may very well be experiencing the same problems, no way to say that they aren't
