***Official Galaxy Nexus Pre-Release speculation thread**

See, that's what worries me. For me, going from a Dinc (which is almost the exact same footprint as the iPhone 4), it probably WILL feel huge to me. But I'll adjust, and I agree the extra screen real estate is an asset. I am just a bit worried about the size being annoying (carrying in my pocket, reaching all parts of the screen to type with one hand, etc).

Fortunately, I'm not making that big a jump -- I'm coming from a 4" phone. But I actually chose the Fascinate over the Droid X because I thought the X was too big.

But there are a couple of factors that I'm hoping will help, at least in my case. First, I've found that I almost never use the phone one-handed. I hold it in one hand and poke it with the other. So being able to reach the whole screen with my thumb isn't really an issue.

Also, when I was originally getting all worked up about the size, I made an interesting discovery: my Fascinate, with a silicone case on it, is actually almost exactly the same width, depth, and weight as the Galaxy Nexus without a case. So I've decided that when I get the Nexus, it's going to go naked, and therefore I may not really notice any increase in size at all.

That's the theory, anyway...

I don't have much hope for 12/1. I still think 12/8 is the soonest, and that the previous release dates were probably accurate at some point, but VZW can't figure out when the heck they want to release the phone, so the date is continuously subject to change. I'm hoping 12/8, but I have a feeling it may be delayed yet again. I can't find the exact tweet from P3Droid, but he hinted at another push of the date last night. I hope he's misinformed.

If it gets passed the 8th I think that would have to be caused by some kind of problem. Anything much later than that and they will be missing the christmas shopping binge and that would make no sense

So how would people feel if Verizon announces the LG Revolution 2 on December 1st and launches it before the Galaxy Nexus? Not that there's anything out there that suggests that would happen but I think that would certainly be something else.

I can't wait to get rid of this RAZR that runs through battery like Cookie Monster at a Toll House factory.

Just how bad is the battery life? It has a comparably battery (1780 vs. 1850), but what would contribute to it having worse battery than the Gnex? The screen? Moto bloat? I'm worried the Gnex will have just as bad of battery life as the Razr on 4G/LTE. That seems to be par for the course with LTE.

I think the LG phone that will be announced will be the LG Nitro, not the Revolution 2... hell, the Revolution 1 didn't even sell well at all IIRC.

Welcome! Sorry to hear about the weight, I recommend th C25K app on the market to lose it, once you get your Nexus ;)

I'll try that, thanks. Actually I won't get the Nexus until after Jan. 1 anyway. I'm waiting for the reviews. Really, if the Razar had a removable battery, I'd be on that one. I'll get extra batteries for the Nexus right out of the gate.

Which is why I'm quite surprised by the Rezound, with it's smaller battery getting favorable battery life reviews. And this from an HTC product, which historically (out of the box) have never had great battery life.

Must be the LTE radio causing the difference. Can't think of any other thing.

I know the Nitro for AT&T will be announced. I I was just stating it as a what if scenario. We haven't heard much about the Rev2/Spectrum in a while.

Yeah, I'm quite surprised the Rezound is getting favorable battery reviews and the Razr isn't. Totally the opposite of what I was expecting...

I wish I had an answer for you, but all I know is I barely used my RAZR the last two days, and have went in to work with a 100% charge, and have had to charge it by 2:00 both days. That is fact, anything else I would have to say would be speculation.

On paper, you'd expect the exact opposite. LTE radio and Blur must be the culprits.

EarlyMon is really the expert on the S3, but I believe Qualcomm also packages the 4G radio on the SoC rather than a separate chip. The S3 also can run it's dual cores independantly, something the Cortex A9 can't do.

Before or after he Rick Rolled everyone the other night?

I never said he wasn't an arrogant/annoying person (perfect example being the rick roll, yeah), just that he mentioned the "not going to happen in November" bit before other sources, did he not? I'm new here, so I am probably missing the history behind why people hate this guy so much. He certainly seems to be brash, but if you look paste that, his info seems to be fairly good, that's all.

Yikes. Can you comment on how much you use it (and when do you unplug it? 7am? 8am?)? Like do you stream on pandora from the minute you get to work, etc?

There are tons of reports from happy Razr owners of very good battery life. You are correct about the battery life of the GNex, there is no reason to expect it will be much better than the other LTE phones. Some just can't accept the fact that anything other than a GNex can be anything better than a horrid phone. ;)

Sometimes it has seemed he gets his information from the numerous forums on the internet, rather than credible sources. He changes rather quickly, like a Windsock with the breeze. Maybe he's right, but if that's the case, he's the one making the decisions, or sleeping with them. Nobody has a different story that often unless it's true, or they are making it up as they go. Just my opinion of said Windsock, but I have been watching his tweets since August.

IIRC, the chip in this phone (4460?), is capable of 1.5 gHz, but is down clocked to 1.2 gHz.

We don't know for sure if the nominally 1.5GHz-capable 4460 is clocked down to 1.2GHz on Nexus solely due to battery or whether there were yield and reliability issues.

Question: Don't these chips throttle up and down on clock speed depending on the demands of the device/user? Because if they do, I wouldn't think overclocking (to the spec the chip is supposedly capable of running) would hurt the battery life very much.

Good points. I think a recent examination showed Nexus was often running under 400MHz when the phone wasn't working too hard, so raising the upper limit would have minimal effect on battery life for such usage. But then, who cares if your Ferrari can hit 180mph or 200mph if you're only driving it 65mph?

for what it is worth, i can almost guarantee the 4460 will run at 2+ gHz without issue. my thunderbolt would run just fine at 1.9 gHz on it's stock 1 gHz chip with no ill effects aside from murdering the battery. while the processor does ramp up/down due to user demand, the stock governor is not that great. rooting will allow you to use new kernels (the software that manages the CPU) with more open slots for over/under clocking and better governors to conserve the battery. for reference, i ran my thunderbolt at 1.5 gHz on a custom kernel for daily use, but actually got better battery life than i did at 1 gHz with the stock kernel/governor.

Doesn't work that way. Your Thunderbolt was an A8-compatible Qualcomm Snapdragon, while Nexus is an A9-based TI OMAP4. I suspect that many Nexus' will run fine at 2GHz, but we won't know until someone tries.
