***Official Galaxy Nexus Pre-Release speculation thread**

My Thunderbolt usually didn't lock GPS at all, not sure if it was just my device or if others have had that problem... anyways I don't use it much because of my fear for battery drain since I don't really need it, but it's nice to have it work efficiently when I do need it.

for me i like to use the turn by turn voice navigation if i am in an area that i am not familiar with. sometimes when i drive into the bronx , my gps just craps out but everywhere else it seems to work pretty well

Any confirmation on the rumors about Verizon having the bootloader locked? This was one of the main reasons I wanted the Nexus and I am hoping that its still as 'open' as it was supposed to be.

No real confirmation, but the boot loader isn't going to be locked. It just won't be

So the SGN has supposedly been confirmed for December 8, or is that just another log in the BS tornado that keeps swirling around us?

Confirmed by Samsung that it won't be released in November (it's coming in December), but not a specific date.

Been lurking now for around a week and thanks to everyone for the great information and rumors, I admit I think that I am already an addict to this thread. Even though the phone keeps getting delayed, the entertainment from the thread is almost worth the delays... almost.:D

I hope it comes out soon since I am still running the original BB Storm that I bought on release day. I have had some experience with android since the rest of the family has android phones and I am their tech support but I would really like to have one of my own.

Welcome to the forums. Glad you decided to enter the madhouse. :D

The bootloader will not be locked. Just my opinion, but haven't heard any such stories of locked bootloaders from the technical guys who actually have the Verizon version (Team Black Hat). So it's pretty much a given that it will be unlocked.

If the bootloader was locked, we would have heard about it.

People would be pissing themselves just as when they thought it would only be 16GB internal storage, except times 10.

I finally caved today and rented a Rezound. I am not the kind of person that normally desires to create an unneeded refurb, but I have my limits. I have been on an extremely beat up LG Dare for a month now waiting on the Nexus to come out. Its nearly impossible to text my friends, and the battery life was hideous. I picked up a Rezound this evening and so far I like it a lot. Its not what I want, but it is a million times better than what I was using. My question is did we ever confirm that the phone can be returned up until January? I remember that someone thought that maybe that policy is only for inactivated phones, so I wanted to check and make sure I'm in the clear. Also, in the unlikely event that the Nexus isn't released until after the return period has ended, can I return the Rezound and just get my upgrade eligibility back without getting a different phone?

Any phone purchased after 11/21(?) can be returned by Jan 15th. It's thier holiday promotion. Sorry, but forget the start date. Someone else will chime in here with the proper date.

I've seen Samsung Galaxy S owners all over the map - GPS sucks - no you suck, GPS is great (infraction for name calling) - etc etc etc.

One thing is clear to me - last year, Samsung's PR department was in the news, quoted as saying they had a GPS issue and an update fix was coming in X weeks.

Then it didn't show. And then it did, and the flame wars started all over again - complete with lots of stories hereabouts about unhappy customer returns, "why I'll never buy Samsung again" ad infinitum.

I expect that Samsung MUST have learned from that PR nightmare and has simply fixed it now.

And with the barometric altimeter (I really couldn't resist) in the Gnex, the largest source of error on a small aGPS unit - elevation - is reduced, aka improved.

I think there's nothing to worry on with it.

And note well - when you get your Gnex, test the GPS even if you're not a big GPS user. It was my first indication that my new HTC phone was in trouble - turns out my GPS and 3G radios were both hosed.

Lemons happen with _every_ new product, so test everything when you get yours. ;)

Shouldn't this have been something you checked out before you went and signed that contract? Pleople never cease to amaze me. Don't get me wrong, I have been tempted to rent too. But I haven't. My Droid x is more than enough till my beautiful nexus arrives, but if I had a stronger Need, you better believe I'd check, re-check, and check again the validity of a vague holiday return policy BEFORE I jumped feet first into a new 2 year contract.

Hey everyone,

So I figured that I would take a stroll into my local Verizon store and see if I could dig up anything. Talked to a sales rep who said he didn't know much about the details, but he heard it was one kick-ass phone. :D

Anyway, I asked him if he could check the back for anything. He came back with the holster/kickstand case and said their was a huge box of other accessories, but certainly no phones. :(

Long story short, only the accessories were on site. Sadly, it doesn't seem as though these phones are even within a week of being received by the corporate stores.

P.S. I would have gotten this information to you earlier if it weren't for a brand new Modern Warfare 3 box waiting for me when I got back from college. I hope you guys understand ;)

I'm doing the same tomorrow - let us know how you like it.

I have a chat log with a CSR which states that activated phones may be returned through the January date, that there is no additional restocking fee for the Rezound (as some reported) and that my upgrade credit is transferable to the new phone. They might still try and deny it later, but most CSRs seem to be saying that, and I've seen absolutely nothing in writing indicating anything different.

Did anyone ever start a poll about what's the latest we would wait?

Now that I'm running a really nice MIUI, I'm pretty much set til the two-year old fetus finally pops out.

I have only had it for about 8 hours, but so far I have to say it's a great phone. I will feel bad returning it, but I have been in love with the Nexus since day one. If the Nexus wasn't coming out, this would definitely be the phone for me. The screen is brilliant, and I am getting used to the HTC Sense interface.

Listen to the master of wisdom.

I tested everything out on my Droid X on launch day. It started acting up a little while CSR was trying to activate it. Made tech services exchange it there on the spot for a new one.

MIUI FTW...Though the stock launcher still gives me issues...But with launcherpro, my X has never been so fast.
