***Official Galaxy Nexus Pre-Release speculation thread**

I've been lurking for awhile and really enjoy the thread.

I decided to stop into a local corporate store this evening and asked what they could tell me about the nexus. The response was it is the exact same thing as the razr, but thicker, other wise it has the same specs. No other info, they really did not seam to know much at all.

I do not understand the partnerships and why Verizon would want to push one phone over another. I would think all Verizon would care about is getting people locked into new/extended contracts. The best way to do that is offer the best possible products as soon as possible. Why does Verizon care if they sell a razr or a Rezound, or a Nexus? The longer it takes to get the nexus out the more customers that may get fed up and look at another network. I doubt they really care if someone rents a phone they still get you locked in for 2 more years. If I am Samsung a would be pretty upset at this point the longer it takes for this to get out the more market share Moto and HTC pick up. The rate the tech evolves the Nexus only has a few months before the quad cores start coming out. How many sales does Samsung lose every day the Nexus sits in a warehouse?

Welcome to the thread! One logical explanation is that Verizon purchased an inordinate quantity of these phones and have yet to sell enough to feel comfortable dropping the Nexus in fear of the inevitable: the Nexus outsells both phones and Verizon has to drop the price of the other phones in a fire sale. Don't think Verizon wants to get less than 300 bucks for either phone so soon.

Long live the Nexus!

The wait for the phone is probably benefiting us all. I believe they are making sure batt is sufficient, lte works, vol trigger is straight and no lagg glitches. A release day vol trigger bug is ok for the UK but imagine that happening here in the states. All hell would break loose.

But the bad part about the continued "delay" is that the going rate on my perfect condition droid x is dropping with all these new android phones releasing smdh. This baby is my down payment on the nexus!

Awe man. I am in the same boat. I have a negotiated quote good through Nov 30th. After that the value of my droid x is about to plumit. Damn this nexus. So good and sooo bad at the same time.

Here's a size comparison. I'm not sure BB know's what she's getting into. :p

I guess sometimes size does matter

My incredible is a lot smaller than the one in the picture......;)

I hope that's NOT what she said!!!!

Been lurking now for around a week and thanks to everyone for the great information and rumors, I admit I think that I am already an addict to this thread. Even though the phone keeps getting delayed, the entertainment from the thread is almost worth the delays... almost.:D

I hope it comes out soon since I am still running the original BB Storm that I bought on release day. I have had some experience with android since the rest of the family has android phones and I am their tech support but I would really like to have one of my own.

Any confirmation on the rumors about Verizon having the bootloader locked? This was one of the main reasons I wanted the Nexus and I am hoping that its still as 'open' as it was supposed to be.

Welcome to the playground!

Goodnight guys and gals. All hail Nexus!

Good night!

Did anyone notice this thread has gotten over 1,000,000 views? I was going to watch it and post a milestone, but got sidetracked and forgot. Now i'm over 6,000 views late. I paged through and didn't see any posts with 1,000,000 in it.

You mean stock apps? Those are done dude... maybe I don't quite understand what you're asking.
I wasn't asking anything. I was saying/stating. I was proposing that one reason for the "delay" is to get all the other apps that we like to run up to speed on 4.0.1. At least for me it would be at the very least, gps status, oruxmaps, congress, finance; you know, real applications that users would want to use in the real world.

goodnight

I've seen Samsung Galaxy S owners all over the map - GPS sucks - no you suck, GPS is great (infraction for name calling) - etc etc etc.

On my Fascinate, the GPS is quite predictable. It always works perfectly if I'm just playing with it, but if I'm actually relying on it, it fails. :)

Seriously, though ... I never had major problems with it. It worked OK from Day One, though it was a little slow to lock sometimes. It never had the accuracy issues that I heard about from the other Galaxy S variants (that famous rigorous Verizon testing, maybe?). And it only got better after subsequent updates.

I still wouldn't call it as reliable as a stand-alone GPS like a Garmin, but I use it fairly regularly without much problem. After all the bad PR Samsung got over the GPS in the Galaxy S series, I can only assume they've improved things in their subseqeunt phones, but I have no experience to back that up.

soo.. your saying they are delaying it to give 3rd party app devs time to get their apps working on ICS?

*EDIT* I dont have an ICS device in my hand so I cant test it... but it seems that most apps are working fine and that apps that are having problems are the exception, not the rule.

'cough, cough' um. . . . . . no. not after that. you have your opinion and/or 'source' and I have mine.

You guys can take this off the forum. I don't think the feel of it is productive to an already volatile thread. Further discussion/personal sarcasm will be deleted and perhaps infracted.

I dunno, not trying to call you out or anything, but you're the only person on the entire internet (that I can find anyway) who suggests that might be the reason.

Why would Google/Samsung/Verizon delay it because of third party app developers? Do you really think they care if GPS Test or Angry Birds isn't updated to support ICS? Isn't that up to the specific developers? Google/Sammy/VZW isn't going to wait on them. That's preposterous.

The SDK has been updated for awhile now and only minimal changes have to be done to get an app to be fully compatible. Google stated this a long time ago.

grrrrr the further this release gets pushed back (well maybe pushed is the wrong word), the more I feel like I should've settled for the Rezound or I should wait for the next super phone. Google is the only thing keeping me on this crazy train... with their promise of updates and such-forth.

I've had the same thought. However, if I pass on the Nexus and wait for the next one. Lets just say it's announced at CES January 12-13. Lets call it a quad 4 super-duper thing-a-ma-bob that you just can't live without. You get excited to hear Verizon will carry it and it all begins anew for you. Do you TRULY have an faith and confidence with the way they released the Bionic, what they've done to the Nexus, etc. that it will be any different. You will find yourself at the end of April speculating as to why it hasn't been released and debating if it will be out before May. THEN you will say SCREW IT! I'm waiting until June to spite Google and Verizon and moving to an iPhone 5! Do you REALLY want to move to an iPhone 5? Is that where you WANT to end up? Hmmmm?

Well we seem to have the time to kill.

The link below is a helmet cam view of a 1768 foot transmission tower climb to the top that will put your heart in your mouth if you view it full screen.

I used to be a crane rigger in my youth but never made a climb like this one. With age I have lost my ability to stomach climbing. I never seen a old guy climber anyway.

I know that it is frustrating to have to wait for Verizon to announce the date but consider my position...I cannot afford to buy a new phone until next year (bought my wife the Samsung Stratosphere). We need to chill.

And note well - when you get your Gnex, test the GPS even if you're not a big GPS user. It was my first indication that my new HTC phone was in trouble - turns out my GPS and 3G radios were both hosed.
I dunno, I think we'll see improved GPS simply by virtue of the fact that Google designed the phone and chose the parts. Engadget's Behind the Glass piece details each sensor inside the Nexus; what brand they are, etc. Both the geomagnetic sensor and the barometer are listed as being new, never before used in smartphones. Does anyone have similar listings for previous Samsung phones to cross-check with the Nexus technology?
