***Official Galaxy Nexus Pre-Release speculation thread**

Well, my want has gone to a full-fledged need. Yesterday my OG Droid started getting ghost touches all over the place, making it completely unusable, except to receive calls (sometimes). If I can even unlock the screen, that's all I can do, cause the screen just goes crazy from there. If I wait long enough, it will eventually hit my calendar widget and start to enter a new event into it (for today - maybe it's the Nexus ghost trying to tell me something?). I checked all over online, and all I can come up with is a hardware problem.

I just called Verizon, hoping to use my story to pry some Nexus info out of them. I told the girl outright "I know nothing's been officially said about the release date, but could you give me more info? If it's going to be a week I can deal with it, but any more than that I'll need to go elsewhere", since my contract was up earlier this month. She said she couldn't give me any more info, then followed it up by saying "but keep your eye on the website, keep checking on it". I could be reading too much into it, but that may be her way of saying something is immenent.

Will have to see how the next day or two goes, then I may need to bite the bullet and "rent" a RAZR for a while.
Same thing happened to me while I was waiting for the Bionic and I ended up buying a used Droid X over Craigslist for $100. It's held me over even after I passed on the Bionic and decided to wait for the Nexus. I figure I can sell for $50.

I agree with this assessment and would add one other point: I suspect that Samsung is quite happy with the delay and is doing nothing to encourage Verizon from moving forward with the release. Samsung has only one thing on their mind right now and it is NOT Nexus Prime. All their adds, all their promotions ------ just go to their Facebook page ---- everything points to the fact that they have planned for a very long time for a Christmas promotion of the 2S and only the 2S.

Exactly. I stated that a while back. This would NEVER, EVER happen to an iPhone launch. A presser is scheduled, the phone is announced with a release date, the phone is put up for pre-order the next day, and released within 2 weeks ( I believe some have been available within a week of the presser...can't remember each launch specifically). This is about to drive me back to Apple if Google can't get their launches straight and their updates rolling on a consistent, timely manner.

Absolutely! I mentioned something like this as well and was chastised for it, when I said that Verizon, in my opinion is less to blame than Samsung and Google, whom I blame the most. Google is a great company with a lot of great ideas, but Android is just a fraction of that. The idea that they give it away "for free" and is only a means to get more people into their search service shows in the way the entire Android platform is managed, or rather mismanaged. I'm not a person who gets all upset over framentation, but this sort of thing is a great example of this, and Google's lack of willingness to dictate terms to carriers. Carriers can easily tell Google to take a backseat because Google has no proven track record of selling devices unlike Apple. If Google just invested a little money into making the Nexus a real brand with real advertising, it could easily be a true competitor to the iphone instead of a niche product, but they won't and this nonsense will continue.

Has nothing to do with it. Google puts out one phone per year (roughly) as well. Launching a phone doesn't have a whole heck of a lot to do with your business model, and neither does LTE. It's Google's fault for allowing a carrier to dictate what is done with their phone and when it is released. It's a different story for the rest of the android phones...I realize it's a different business model, but the Nexus is the one phone Google controls from start to finish, yet they allow this to happen. If you ask me, the blame is equally shared between Google, Verizon, and Samsung.

The only reason Apple gets to bully carriers more is because of their popularity, Android isn't at that point yet.

No, it's bad because it's just plain bad. You want to see how to properly launch a new phone? See Apple. iOS and Apple are everything I hate about mobile OS's, but they get launches PERFECT.

1. As I recall, there was plenty of stink around the iPhone 5 (at least this phone was delayed and not cancelled and substituted for a Samsung galaxy II"s". Instead of "properly launching a new phone" they launched a substitute.

2. Much like the iPhone 5, this hasn't been announced by Verizon (as far as release date). Once they announce it and give a date, if they don't release it THEN you can compare. If it had been released with a known issue, everyone would have been ticked (and probably compared it to iPhone again).

Good morning G'nexers.

Finally caught up on all the pages from yesterday and no new news at all (at least confirmed). Saw the CSR chat and lol'd this morning about how that one person trolled the entire Android community. Pretty powerful stuff, but I think it teaches us not to ask CSR's anything since they only see what is on the website and rarely have any more information than we have ourselves. We usually have more anyway.

I am hoping for a pre-order or some word this morning, but not getting my hopes up.

My hopeful meter is around a 3-4 today for a pre-order and a 5 for some word from Verizon.

Easy to sit here and type that on the internet.

Google doesn't have that type of power over Verizon. Once they do, and they can have a single model sell as much as the iphone does, then you'll see that happen.

Hint, it won't be anytime soon.

The thing is, they could and they probably do, but they choose not to use it. Google could have told Verizon flat out...if you want this phone, you WILL launch it on this date, period, or we will find some other carrier that will be glad to sell our product. It's all in the way you pitch it. This IS the latest and greatest Android product, if you want it, you'll play by our rules.

This is the exact issue. Apple announces an iphone and the release date the same day or within a day. Verizon announces the phone with a big TBD release date. Major difference. Regarding the iphone 5, it was all rumor and speculation with no hard evidence, much like this thread.

Ah the internet...Nerd rage ensues over a supposed phone "launch date" that has been based on rumor on hearsay only.

Stop reading about it every second of every day and the launch will eventually happen. It's a phone, not a kidney.

Android as a whole is popular, but Google never will be because they're not willing to invest in the Nexus line to make it a market winner.

Android also has to constantly compete with itself on launch dates. I realize that the Nexus line is the flagship line to best demonstrate what their current software revisions can do, but that doesn't mean they want to bully carriers to push other phones release dates around, especially during the holidays. Verizon has probably had nov/dec planned out for over 6 months at this point. I wish they would just sell the phone on google.com/phone unsubsidized and then we can worry about getting service for it.

It's not a cellular service.... no clue what you're getting at with that point. Apple launches a phone and tells carriers when they will get them and when they will launch them. I'm sure Motorola does the same. Why didn't Google/Samsung with the Nexus...if they did, then why is there no information given to the public?

I assumed part of your complaint was comparing how Verizon (cellular service provider) and Apple release phones, my bad. Frankly the GSM release of the phone is well on the way and probably a bigger chunk of the pie than us.

I will say it seems like a lot of assumed entitlement. It will get here when it gets here but don't bust a blood vessel because I'm sure Verizon isn't losing sleep.

I wouldn't use Motorola as an example, look at the Bionic.

I want to tell everyone what happened this morning to me. My alarm went off at 6:45am so I turned it off and noticed I had an email that came sometime while I was sleeping. Open up my email to see the words Samsung Galaxy and instantly thought wow I can't believe the pre sales have started. Opened the email more and it said Samsung Galaxy Tab on sale :(

Sorry your bubble got busted right out of bed. It's a hard way to start a day

Well, I've been lurking a while and I have to say that if I was Verizon, I think I may be handling the launch the exact same way. Look: Verizon has a built-in buyer-base for the phone. Everyone who is passing the Razr and Rezound specifically for the Galaxy Nexus, the people tweeting to Verizon about the Galaxy Nexus, the people calling Verizon about the Galaxy Nexus are all waiting to buy the Galaxy Nexus. If Verizon released it today, they would buy it. If Verizon releases it the week before Christmas, they will buy it. If they release it the week after Christmas, they will buy it. Why release it today and potentially cannibalize sales on other phones that people may buy as Christmas gifts for relatives? Don't give them another option and, after the holiday shopping season ends, release the Nexus and have your built-in buyer-base flock to them. It seems like smart business to me. Whether or not there is an actual issue regarding the software on the phone, this seems like the ideal way to string along your buyer-base while making sales on other products.

As for me, I think that Verizon won't release the Galaxy Nexus until the week of the 19th, but I also wouldn't be surprised to see it the week of the 26th.

You are missing the sales/marketing piece all together...think of it like any other product...there is competition out there. just like the xbox or PS3...if a company waits one more day that is ome more day someone else buys the competitions product. not everyone waits just because. we make up the minority who will wait and even some people in thei forum have switched to ATT already so if the die hards are switching then who wouldnt. The people that Verizon wants are people coming into their stores that currently have another carrier and they cant sway them to the Nexus if it is not on the shelves. EVERY CARRIER HAS ANDROID...Not every carrier has ICS yet...when you can market the latest and greatest it is a competitive advantage that no one else has. Holding the phone is only costing them sales...no other way to look at it.

1.) Wrong. Who said Apple ever planned an iPhone 5 for this year? Following the same pattern of the iPhone 3 and 3S. You have the 4 and 4S. Next year you will have a redesigned 5 and the year after, probably a 5S. With the exception of the first iPhone, they're going on a 2 year redesign schedule which makes tons of business sense. You shouldn't have to re-tool your manufacturing line every year if you can get better hardware specs in the same form factor.

2.) Exactly my point. This is Google's one chance to shine and control their own product start to finish. Google should have told each carrier "Here is our phone, here is the launch date. If you release later, that's fine, but other carriers will beat you to the punch."

I think it's funny we assume so much about how these companies work and say what they can and cannot do but in all this wealth of knowledge of this branch of the tech community, no one has any idea why they are waiting.

Take a chill pill and relax..

"Perfect" you say.

I'd humbly disagree with that sentiment. iPhone 4S launch didn't happen during Apple's typical refresh cycles. It was delayed, much to the chagrin of many, with absolutely no word whatsoever from Apple regarding the delay. By all measures, the iP4S was months late.

And Apple doesn't pre announce a single thing. Not an official peep about a new product, until the product is actually released on stage. How many Apple launches have your heard about new products, then the announcement comes and goes and that product never materializes?

Analysts: We expect apple to release the iPhone 4S and iPhone5. Nope, maybe next announcement. We expect an upgraded tablet. Nope, maybe next announcement. We expect a new powermac with i7 processor. Nope, maybe next announcement. Rinse, repeat, rinse, repeat.

No, Apple is far from perfect. They surround themselves in a veil of secrecy which people are used to, and accept as status quo. If they don't announce something, then it just gets relegated to the "well maybe next announcement".

Sounds an aweful lot like Verizon, yet they get trashed and Apple gets a pass.
