Just curious how many people here are developers and will be writing an application for your new GN?

My third hobby, outside of checking this website and college football, is brewing beer. I wrote a simple application for my OG last year. It was much easier than I ever imagined.

Been meaning to write a voice dictation => calendar event app, but classes/schoolwork keep getting in the way :(

I'll be making my first attempt at a few apps. I downloaded Eclipse and the SDKs last week, and have the Java books in hand. I've run a few simple apps on the Android simulator, but I'm anxious to get stuff running on the GN. Should be a fun learning experience, at least.

I am. Being a student, I have no time during the year. But this coming winter break I am planning on doing only three things:

Build a valve amplifier for my headphones
rearrange/clean my awful dorm room
do some coding for fun (there is a small chance it will not be for my phone, but it is a tiny chance)

Awesome to meet another brewer on here. Took the hobby after 11 years to retail.

I use Eclipse at work and was very happy when I saw they had a plugin for the android OS. If you can program in Java or C/C++ then you shouldn't have any problem with creating your own app.

Getting nervous... All this code is so Greek to me I'm wondering if I'm more fit for a phone with a UI, haha.

I've waited too long, someone tell me I don't need to be THAT much of a geek to handle the Nexus!

Thanks for all your info today! So will there be a pre-order period or not? It seems like if this will release on the 8th, pre-orders would have to start within the next day or two.

Internally the current status is that there will be one, however there is talk of making it sale-only. There is a pre-order date set at this time but seeing as how it is not confirmed if it will go through I do not want to release it to prevent any confusion or disappointment.

That would be my dream!!! I have only been brewing for 4 years now but I tend to go over board on everything. I skipped extract brewing and went to all grain. I have my first lager aging now in my keezer.

Is it a beer brewing-related OG Droid app? If so, is it available in the market?

Make sure it is a passion.....brewing for profit can become a chore. I brew seasonals and put them in cask. each is never to be repeated so I keep the creative juices going but make 4 regulars each week otherwise. sooscreekbrewingco.com...yes we are tiny.

Racked an all grain clone of Moylen's Kiltlifter Scotch Ale last night. Hopefully bottling in a couple of weeks. The sample was delicious. OG 1.064 so it will have a bit of kick. :D

I'm a front-end developer with some back-end/application background.. might give Android app development a go-round once the GN comes. Should be fun and a good learning experience.

Now to just think of an app lol

Nice! That is similar to a seasonal recipe I am working on right now. A Scotch Ale using a bit of cherry smoked malt and shooting for 8% abv. Really love a good Scotch Ale and one of our regulars is an Irish Red.

Great...again, thanks for the info and please keep us updated on any changes.

Why do people who have info about a release or presale have to tweet cryptic messages?

Because they're attention [vendors]. That passes, right mods? ;)

On a more random note, I have a friend who is a CS major, and he can fluently covert ascii to hex. It is beyond absurd, but a good parlor trick.*

*For the completely nerdy and geeky crowd, that is

I still remember some Intel 8080 binary opcodes by heart, with a smattering of Z80. Fun disassembling programs by matching up CD's and C9's.

Kewl. I'm not a Java heavyweight, but have been pursuing app development.

Is C++ really practical for large Android projects, beyond Hey look it actually works?
