Wow, and only ten bucks. That's awfully tempting. Anyone know how it handles the inside of jeans pockets? Is it smooth or sticky? I hated my OG case that pulled the inside of my pocket out every time I took out the phone.

A TPU case is smooth. Its not sticky like the silicone cases. It will slide in and out of pockets with ease

Can't attest to its pocket handling, but the texture is somewhere between rubber and plastic. It's WAY less sticky than Otterbox rubber. There are actually two different textures

Verizon lists Galaxy Nexus release date

NOTE: This links gives no more information than the screenshot of the possible Best Buy screen. I just find it disturbing that writers prey on people just to get hits.

EXCITED.... to not in 5 sec.

PopHerald is the worst with lies in the headlines. I remember a few weeks ago they said "release date announced" and it referred to the "later this year" paired with Google/Samsung saying "November".

Pics of said case? Was it specifically for the LTE version (added thickness)?

Edit: Found a link, that's a real nice looking case. Matte Back Smoke TPU Case & Screen Protector for Galaxy Nexus - $9.90 : TPU-CASES.COM, - All TPU Cases Shipped Free in the USA

these cases have been talked about a bunch in this thread alone... i wonder how good their business has been from us. got me to buy it.

I miss my Jeep. It was a '84 Cherokee, manual, forest green. Never should have gotten rid of it. :(

I had a 93 GC before the 04 and i killed that one at almost 300k miles. That truck was a beast off road. Just point it somewhere and it went over anything. Ahhhhh....the good ol' days.

The only thing keeping me positive is the prospect of being able to play with my new Nexus when Christmas and New Years comes around. It's going to be an exciting holidays indeed. :D

I am off from work begining 12/20 till 1/6/12 Thats a lot of time to play and show off the new phone to all my I-relatives.

What's a Prof, out of curiousity:confused: Two of you seemed to have found each other! I have a feeling it's east coast? LOTS of east coast on this forum!

That walking owl thing is a Prof. Rowan University in glorious Glassboro, NJ. It's short for Professors, since Rowan originally started off as a teacher's college in the 1920's before evolving. At least they tried to update the logo a bit, to intimidate TCNJ and all the SUNY schools.

Ugh. The girl in the office with a TV called us over. She loves Kathy Lee and Hoda. They have this incredibly irritating schtick where they have a family come on the show, and present a very touching story, like the kid saved them from a fire, or one of them donated a kidney to another one, or something like that.

Anyway, at the end of the segment, they have these crappy singers come on and sing a song that was written about their experience. Everyone cries.

So. freaking. corny.

The girl in the office is standing in front of the TV, with her arms crossed, and is occasionally wiping her eyes. She then turns to us and says "Wasn't that so beautiful?!"

We just roll our eyes and walk out, thankful for the distraction but sickened at the same time.

LCD tech explanations with decent coverage of IPS -

OLED (Nexus) is a light emissive technology - the panel elements emits light.

An LCD is a light permissive technology - the panel is composed of apertures (ok to think of them as shutters) that open and close to permit light, provided by a lighting element behind the panel, to flow through. The light then passes through colored filters (red, green or blue depending on the subpixel) and usually various polarized films.

The tiny apertures (shutters) exist for each subpixel.

They open or close through some magic for the materials using what we call an electrochemical response. That response makes each LC element act as if it were mechanical (hence, ok to think, like a shutter).

There are many different ways to achieve that - each electrochemical scheme is given a name. One is IPS, introduced in 1996. Super IPS was invented in 1998. LG has been making it for ten years. IPS isn't new, but it's been getting refined over the years.

How to get a brighter LCD: use a brighter backlight.

How to make an LCD perform better in a very high-light (like sunlight) environment: use a brighter backlight and some creative polarizing overlays so the display doesn't get swamped by the ambient light.

Getting the sandwich of backlight + LCD_panel + filters + polarizers to play together is a little like a Rubic's cube, everything must balance in the solution.

Why better LCDs don't seem to exist or are just emerging on cell phones: expense and power efficiency. Bright backlights have had a habit of eating batteries, and the rest of the sandwich eats up light at each step. And those things have been steadily improving.

The importance of using IPS technology to get there: aside from recent advances (equivalent to advances in the other technologies) - only for marketing and making you brand-loyal.

IPS is basically a description of one of the many electrochemical schemes used for one part of the display.

Here's a pretty good write-up on who has made what sort of LCD panel when -

TFT LCD - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

It's limited and doesn't tell the whole story for all technologies, but the story it tells is accurate.

One of the technologies to watch for brightness and outdoor performance is LG's NOVA, brought out earlier this year -

NOVA Display vs Super AMOLED Plus vs Retina Display vs IPS LCD

Other good stuff is coming, that's a write-up for another day.

Congrats if you've read this far! :)

Prior to Android, I hung out with the HD types. The terms "light emissive" and "light permissive technologies" were my creations, so if you've read similar articles on this subject, those might have been mine, or were taken from mine. After all this typing that hardly anyone will read, I thought it was ok to horn-toot a little, and with the even fewer people that have gotten this far, I thought, what's the harm. ;)

Your Office scares me.

Thanks, that's good to know. I like the look of the darker case quite a bit.

Just a random one bought in the store the day I got the Droid, probably silicone. It was two parts, a back piece that snapped on, and a front part that fit around the slider to protect the screen. Can't find any more info about it, as Verizon doesn't sell/support OG Droid-specific accessories anymore.

Oooh, I think I remember having that thing on my OG Droid as well. Did the material have a strange textured pattern to it, with the back part having a "hump" on the top and bottom, and the front was just a rectangular frame? If we're thinking about the same case, then this TPU is WAY less sticky than that one.

I'm glad I pulled the trigger on a phone (4s). Wish I'd done it sooner. This release is a prime example in communication strategy breakdown. Especially in the age of social media, where messaging and brand perception is as much in the hands of the public as it is in VZW's boardroom. Assuming your customers are dumb and won't know any better no longer works. Solid communication and transparency is what currently sets businesses apart and ultimately wins market share. VZW should take a page out of Zappos, Amazon, SEOmoz, even Ford.

I'll still be rockin' android on my Transformer Prime, around 12/19. Asus was kind enough to give us a release date today :)

I know this will start OT, but we ill come full circle to the SGN.

I've played with the 4s and there are so many things to like about it. My biggest, biggest, biggest problem with the iphone is they don't have any widgets. I cannot stand just hitting buttons. I love having a facebook wall on my front screen. I love having twitter updates on my second screen. I love having 1 click contacts. I even love having my text box wide open on my other screen as well.

So I have the Droid X and all the phones that have come out so far haven't had enough for me to update. I wanted something that would really be new and exciting. Faster is always good, but not my overall need. It's fast enough already. (Sorry geeksters who love fast!) The Galaxy Nexus is the ONLY phone that really brings out that new quality that I want to show off to everyone.

Long story short, all Apple has to do is put widgets on their phone and i'm completely sold. Since, for whatever reason, they do not. I cannot wait to get my hands on the SGN. I will show that bad boy off like you cannot believe. You will inevitably regret not getting this phone.

I truly believe the wait is worth it. Plus it's been so much fun with all of you Nexus fans.

Definitely agreed with both of you, but I posted the article because it contained very heartening info about the Nexus' ability to consume almost no power while the screen was off. Very impressive IMO.

Very true. Should come in handy at work for me, I'm less worried about those days now... Just wondering about my heavy usage days filled with playing on my phone while comforting a pukey puppy (like I'm doing now)

Just tell her you know a guy that had a heart transplant and now his heart is exactly half the size of the Grinch's.......Then put up both thumbs, smile, and walk away.
