Awesome way to use it! I need to read up on it.

Does receiving calls on gv use minutes, or is that data? I assume calling out on it doesn't burn minutes?

Google Voice and your cell phone bill
Making domestic calls

When you use Google Voice for Android, domestic calls will use the standard minutes from your cell phone plan.

Each time you place a call, instead of dialing the number you want to reach, Google Voice dials a US-based direct access number. The Google Voice server then forwards your call to the actual destination number. This allows for faster call setup and the ability to place calls without a data connection. These direct access numbers may show in your phone's call log, or on your phone bill.

A unique direct access phone number is assigned to each person that you call. The direct access numbers are stored in the Google Voice application, not in your Contacts. They can be purged from your phone at any time by signing out of the Google Voice app.

Note: Direct access numbers are assigned randomly, and may include numbers that are out of your local calling area, or even out of state. If you don't have a nationwide calling plan, you may be charged long distance rates by your carrier.

Can you do a pre-order for an in-store pickup? E.g. reserve one at your local VZW retail store? Or is it 1) pre-order and wait for shipping or 2) get to the store when it opens?

When I got my Dinc, I pre-ordered it at Best Buy and picked it up on the release day. I may do that, as long as they can honor my additional $50 loyalty credit. I'm also curious about best buy's replacement/warranty policy? I've heard it's a much better deal than paying the absurd $11/mo to VZW for insurance. What is everyone's plan to insure/protect this phone? I for one don't want to shell out $700+ if I break/lose/etc the phone.

I dont think you can do the Pre Order thing at the store...Its one or the other.

Hey everyone. I figured I post this question here since many of us are coming from the Incredible/OG Droid/other phones. It's not getting any responses in the incredible thread so since we have more eyes here I figured I'd ask:

I wanted to know where the picture of my wallpaper was located in my incredible? I've searched around and asked and it seems that it's saved to my SD card but it's definitely not because when I removed the SD card I still have my wallpaper on my home screen. Also, I downloaded the wallpaper through Zedge and I've long since uninstalled it but the wallpaper is still there! I'm glad it is because it's my favorite wall paper and I don't want to lose it. Can anyone point me to the folder or directory where it might be located? Since Zedge was used by many in the android community I'm pretty sure it's not a phone-specific problem. I'm thinking Zedge saves the wallpaper somewhere in the phone's memory but I can't find it when I connect the phone to my computer and search through it like another drive.

Thank you!

Zedge saves all of its files to your sd card. There should be a folder named Zedge and inside it will be more folders.

I am a Google Voice user. I really like the look of the Verizon Visual Voicemail app pictured. I think Google Voice could really use a refresher. I like the pictures by the voicemails.

Whose phone is this? Apparently, they personally know the characters from Dan Brown's books.

I'm the disciplinarian in the home (with our two doggies). We never had an accident in the house after the first week or two. But we didn't get them at the same time. Must be much more difficult with two pups.

I took some vacation time and followed them like a hawk EVERYWHERE.

When you have human kids, I want a hidden camera in your house so I can watch the comedy unfold live.

Guys, I got a text from my sister:

Motion for a "multi thanks" button? Second anyone???

Guys, I got a text from my sister:

Some guy over at phonearena posted this

"My friend who is in upper management in Verizon just told me he got an update on the date Yesterday.... Says it is the 12th now, though this is the second time they have pushed the date they had told them back."

I realize it's just another he said she said but I noticed he posted this at 10:00 am when Engadget posted the Dec 11th leak that wasn't until 10:45.

For sanity's sake, I gotta go with Han on this one. I just went to check in to my local Wawa at lunch, and couldn't help but think "man, I can't wait until my phone doesn't take 15 seconds between screens." I choose to believe!

I use it to both place and receive calls.

I sent out emails and texts to all of my contacts a couple of years ago telling them that I had a new phone number (my GV number).

I also use it with an Obi110 at home ( Obihai - Home ) to place and receive calls using an analog desk phone. Two of them, actually... a red 1978 ITT touch tone phone and a 1941 Western Electric 302 rotary (with an inline device that converts pulse to touch tones).

I can pick up one of the analog phones, get a dial tone and dial out as you would with a normal land line.

When people in a particular Google Contacts group call my GV number, both my OG Droid and my desk phones ring simultaneously. I can answer on any of the three phones.

How weird, I just received my Obi110 from Amazon today. How do you like it? We're planning on using it the same way you describe.

I have no idea. I assume it's like a trigger or something, to prompt the CSR to ask the customer if they want to upgrade to the SGN or something.

I sent her back a text asking how long after the "prompts" get sent out does a phone get put on sale. I'll text back if she says anything.

She seems to be distracted at the moment.

Work. Ugh.

But, this IS work! Think how many HAPPY Nexus customers VZW would have, once they get even more specifics. She'd be a hero! (heroine!) Tell her to get her priorities straight! :)

Seriously, plz send her our thanks...very much appreciate the info!

It should be in a folder called "Background" or "wallpaper" on the root of your SDcard, unless you deleted that folder. It will remain on the phone when you pull the SD card because it is saved in the system portion of your phone. Finding it may be tough, but look through the "Drawable HDPI" folder.

I see the folder for zedge in the SD card memory. It only has a folder named "cache" with a bunch of picture files that are not saved in JPG format but unknown formats that are able to be opened like a jpg. over 100 folders I'll have to check one by one. thanks for the suggestion. I know it's somewhere in the phone.

One more thing: I checked the phone's memory drive and there is no Drawable HDPI folder. Could it be named something else? thank you for your help!

Calls in or out will use minutes, but there are different ways around that. If you have a solid 3g/4g/wifi all the time in your area then you can always use something like Groove IP to place VOIP calls which won't use minutes.

If you get the opportunity han, have her clarify what pre order prompt means? My guess is that it's a prompt for indirect retailers to order their stock

You can also put your GV number in your "fab5" if the carrier allows and have free unlimited minutes.

Would you mind posting more info/links/etc on this? Thanks!

sure...

here's the link SquareTrade Warranties | Extended Warranties for 70% Less Than Retail | Electronics Insurance Alternative

my personal experience with them has been great...they regularly offer discounts on their own prices, which are already less than the competition

for instance, i paid 60 bucks for my OG droid coverage 2 years, everything except stolen phone is covered, if they find that you caused the damage there is a $50 fee

i had screen problems a couple months back, mailed it cross country with their label tuesday, got it back friday morning, no charge to me, and it was my phone that they had fixed not a refurb

if they can't fix it they will paypal you the value of the device

So strictly speaking, IPS doesn't improve outdoor viewing? Because my OG Droid sucked outdoors.

Exactly. Seemingly more about backlight power and how optimized the panel contrast capabilities are when backlight is fully glowing. In end it is probably mostly about how much you are willing to spend on that particular component from the few LCD suppliers.

If I've understood it correctly, if you've got a Friends & Family plan with unlimited calling to a few numbers, you could just set up your GV number on there, and you're effectively calling that for every single call you make, thus you have unlimited minutes.

Never done it personally, but I'd look into it if I used a lot of minutes.

Never heard about it being a breach of contract though.
